Getting physical with medical education:Exercise based virtual anatomy review classes for medical students

The benefits of regular physical activity are well ***,few studies have examined the effectiveness of integrating physical activity(PA)into curricula within a post-secondary *** investigate the incorporation of PA into medical curriculum,we developed a series of optional exercise-based review sessions designed to reinforce musculoskeletal(MSK)anatomy course *** synchronous sessions were co-taught by a group fitness instructor and an anatomy *** fitness instructor would lead students through both strength and yoga style exercises,while the anatomy instructor asked questions about relevant anatomical structures related to course material previously *** the sessions,participants were asked to evaluate the classes on their self-reported exam preparedness in improving MSK anatomy knowledge,PA levels,and mental *** participants completed surveys;a majority agreed that the classes increased understanding of MSK concepts(90.0%)and activity levels(97.7%).Many(70.0%)felt that the classes helped reduce *** majority of respondents(90.0%)agreed that the classes contributed to increased feelings of social ***,medical students saw benefit in PA based interventions to supplement MSK course *** with increasing activity levels and promoting health behaviours,integrating PA into medical curriculum may improve comprehension of learning material,alleviate stress and foster social connectivity among medical students.

In this paper we will show that the Richardson extrapolation can be used to enhance the numerical solution generated by a Petrov-Galerkin finite element method for the initial value problem for a nonlinear Volterra integro-differential equation. As by-products, we will also show that these enhanced approximations can be used to form a class of posteriori estimators for this Petrov-Galerkin finite element method. Numerical examples are supplied to illustrate the theoretical results.

Reviewed are the present status and future prospects of the laser fusionresearch at the ILE Osaka. The Gekko XII and Peta Watt laser system have been operated forinvestigating the implosion hydrodynamics, fast ignition, and the relativistic laser plasmainteractions and so on. In particular, the fast ignition experiments with cone shell target havebeen in progress as the UK and US-Japan collaboration programs. In the experiments, the implodedhigh density plasmas are heated by irradiating 500 J level peta-watt laser pulse. The thermalneutron yield is found to increase by three orders of magnitude by injecting the peta-watt laserinto the cone shell target. The Rayleigh-Taylor instability experiment results are also reviewed isthis paper.

Assessment of digital image correlation method in determining large scale cemented rockfill strains

A conventional contact method(using linear transducers)and a non-contact method are deployed to measure the axial and lateral deformations of large scale cylindrical cemented rockfill *** works incorporating two pinhole cameras to create one stereovision by digital image correlation shows that the non-contact method is as reliable for testing large cylindrical specimens as measurements done by using linear variable displacement transformer and string *** this particular large specimen,the experiment resulted in the acceptable mean difference between lateral strain using both methods is 5.1 percent,and 14.5 percent for the axial *** occurrence is inevitable due to the heterogeneity of the concrete system and the placement of the monitoring point in digital image correlation method,although the comparison of stress-strain relationship in both methods still indicates a *** on the results of the present experiments,the authors recommend the noncontact method for a detailed investigation of the material behavior during the uniaxial compressive strength *** field strain measurement enables this digital method to examine local strains near cracks at any point,a very useful tool for studying material deformation behavior.

Modeling and Identification of Multirate Systems

Multirate systems are abundant in industry; for example, many soft-sensor design problems are related to modeling, parameter identification, or state estimation involving multirate systems. The study of multirate systems goes back to the early 1950's, and has become an active research area in systems and control. This paper briefly surveys the history of development in the area of multirate systems, and introduces some basic concepts and latest results on multirate systems, including a polynomial transformation technique and the lifting technique as tools for handling multirate systems, lifted state space models, parameter identification of dual-rate systems, how to determine fast single-rate models from dual-rate models and directly from dual-rate data, and a hierarchical identification method for general multirate systems. Finally, some further research topics for multirate systems are given.

Performance evaluation of near real-time condition monitoring in haul trucks

Strategic maintenance plays a key role in ensuring high availability and utilization of the haul trucks,and as equipment began to grow more complex towards the end of the 20th century,there was a need for a proactive maintenance strategy,which led to the development of condition-based *** condition monitoring(RTCM)is the ability to perform condition monitoring in real-time and has the ability to alert maintenance and operations of abnormal *** alarms can be used as an indication leading to a problem,and if a suitable corrective action is initiated in time,it could result in significant savings of equipment downtime and repair *** study aims to compare some maintenance performance indicators prior to and after implementation of RTCM strategy at a mine site using some tests of statistical *** study also indicated the presence of seasonality in the data,and thus the data was deseasonalized and detrended prior to being subjected to the statistical ***,the results indicated that RTCM strategy has proven to be successful in improving the availability for some of the failure categories chosen in this study.

Advances in modern semiconductor integrated circuits have always demanded faster and more sensitive analytical methods on a large-scale *** surface of wafers is fundamentally essential to start building circuits,and quantitative measures of the surface potential,defects,contamination,passivation quality,and uniformity are subject to *** present study provides a new approach to access those by means of terahertz(THz)emission *** femtosecond laser illumination,THz radiation,which is sensitive to the surface electric fields of the wafer,is ***,we systematically research the THz emission properties of silicon surfaces under different surface conditions,such as the initial surface with a native oxide layer,a fluorine-terminated surface,and a hydrogenterminated ***,a strong doping concentration dependence of the THz emission amplitude from the silicon surface has been revealed in different surface conditions,which implies a semiquantitative connection between the THz emission and the surface band bending with the surface ***-induced THz emission spectroscopy is a promising method for evaluating local surface properties on a wafer scale.

Synthesis and Crystal Structure of 2-Morpholinylthioformyl- 2-phenyl-4-morpholinyl-5-phenyl-1,3-dithiole

The title compound 2-morpholinylthioformyl-2-phenyl-4-morpholinyl-5- phenyl-1, 3-dithiole (C24H26N2O2S3 Mr = 470.66) was obtained by the reaction of α-thiobenzoylthioformmorpholine (1) with trimethyl phosphite. The crystal is monoclinic, space group P21/n, with unit cell parameters: a = 9.746(2), b = 21.124 (8), c = 11.484(3) Å, β = 99.98(2)°, Z = 4, V = 2328(1) Å3, Dc = 1.343 g/cm3, μ(MoKα) = 3.42 cm-1, F(000) = 992.00. R = 0.054, Rw = 0.062 for 2426 observed reflections (I>2.00σ(I)). X-ray analysis reveals that interatomic distance for C(1)-C(2) is 1.338(5) Å, indicating that it is a double bond. The atoms C(1), C(2), C(3), S(1) and S(2) form a 1, 3-dithiole ring, in which S(1), C(1), C(2) and S(2) are coplanar. The X-ray results support our proposed mechanism for the reaction.

Lithium-ion batteries(LIBs)have dominated the portable electronic and electrochemical energy markets since their commercialisation,whose high cost and lithium scarcity have prompted the development of other alkali-ion batteries(AIBs)including sodium-ion batteries(SIBs)and potassium-ion batteries(PIBs).Owing to larger ion sizes of Na^(+)and K^(+)compared with Li^(+),nanocomposites with excellent crystallinity orientation and well-developed porosity show unprecedented potential for advanced lithium/sodium/potassium *** enticing open rigid framework structures,Prussian blue analogues(PBAs)remain promising self-sacrificial templates for the preparation of various nanocomposites,whose appeal originates from the well-retained porous structures and exceptional electrochemical activities after thermal *** review focuses on the recent progress of PBA-derived nanocomposites from their fabrication,lithium/sodium/potassium storage mechanism,and applications in AIBs(LIBs,SIBs,and PIBs).To distinguish various PBA derivatives,the working mechanism and applications of PBA-templated metal oxides,metal chalcogenides,metal phosphides,and other nanocomposites are systematically evaluated,facilitating the establishment of a structure–activity correlation for these *** on the fruitful achievements of PBA-derived nanocomposites,perspectives for their future development are envisioned,aiming to narrow down the gap between laboratory study and industrial reality.
