Objective To assess the efficacy and safety of Chinese medicine injection(CMI)for treating acute lung injury/acute respiratory distress syndrome(ALI/ARDS).Methods Randomized controlled trials(RCTs)were identified by searching 3 English databases and 4 Chinese databases from their inceptions until February *** Cochrane Handbook was used to evaluate risk of bias in the included *** analysis was conducted using RevMan 5.3.3 *** A total of 19 eligible RCTs involving 1,334 participants was included in this systematic review and *** main meta-analysis showed that CMI combined with conventional therapy(CT)was more effective than CT alone in reducing the acute physiology and chronic health evaluation(APACHE)H score[mean difference(MD):−1.74 points,95%confidence interval(CI):−2.77 to−0.71,I^2=0]and increasing the total effective rate[relative risk(RR):1.35,95%CI:1.17 to 1.56,I^2=37%].Compared with CT,CMI combined with CT showed improvements in the arterial partial pressure of oxygen(PaO2,MD:9.25 mm Hg,95%CI:0.87 to 17.63,I^2=98%)and oxygenation index[arterial partial pressure of oxygen(PaO2)/fraction of inspired oxygen(FiO2),MD:50.75 mm Hg,95%CI:35.18 to 66.31,I^2=94%].CMI plus CT was superior to CT in reducing the systemic inflammatory response syndrome(SIRS)score(MD:−0.84 points,95%CI:−1.26 to−0.42,I^2=65%),length of hospital stay(MD:−4.22 days,95%CI:−6.49 to−1.95,I^2=92%),and duration of mechanical ventilation(MD:−2.94 days,95%CI:−4.68 to−1.21,I^2=89%).Only 1 study reported adverse *** CMI as an adjuvant therapy showed great potential benefits for the treatment of ALI/***,we could not make a definite conclusion due to low quality of included studies and uncertain *** studies should focus on improving research design,especially in blindness and *** reporting of adverse events was also needed.

BACKGROUND: Corticosteroids remain the most effective therapy available for asthma. They have widespread effects on asthmatic airway inflammation. However, little is known about the effects of corticosteroids on the production of bone marrow inflammatory cells in asthma. This study observed the effects of glucocorticoid and cysteinyl leukotriene 1 receptor antagonist on CD34+ hematopoietic cells, so as to explore the possible effectiveness of a bone marrow-targeted anti-inflammatory strategy. METHODS: Balb/c mice were sensitized and challenged with ovalbumin (OVA) to establish an asthmatic model. For two consecutive weeks, asthmatic mice were challenged with OVA while being given either prednisone, montelukast, prednisone plus montelukast, or sterile saline solution. The mice were killed 24 hours after the last challenge with OVA, and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid (BALF), peripheral blood, and bone marrow were collected. Eosinophils in peripheral blood and BALF, and nucleated cells in BALF, peripheral blood, and bone marrow were counted. The percentages of CD34+ cells, CD4+ T lymphocytes and CD8+ T lymphocytes among nucleated cells in peripheral blood and bone marrow were counted by flow cytometry. Immunocytochemistry and in situ hybridization were employed to detect expression of CD34 and interleukin (IL)-5Ralpha mRNA (CD34+ IL-5Ralpha mRNA+ cells) among bone marrow hematopoietic cells. RESULTS: Compared with the sterile saline solution group, the number of eosinophils in BALF and peripheral blood, CD34+ cells in peripheral blood and bone marrow, and CD34+ IL-5Ralpha mRNA+ cells in bone marrow of mice from the prednisone and prednisone plus montelukast groups were significantly lower (P

OBJECTIVE: To study the therapeutic effect Bufei granule, which is a traditional Chinese drug that can enhance the immune function of the lung, on patients with stable chronic obstructive pulmonary disease(COPD).METHODS: This is a randomized, double blinded,placebo-controlled, and multicenter clinical *** medical centers in Tianjin, China, participated in the trial. A total of 140 patients with stable COPD were enrolled and randomized into two groups, with 70 patients in each. The treatment group was treated with Bufei granule, while the control group received Bufei placebo. The pharmacological treatment lasted for 12 weeks from the date of enrollment. Then, the indexes of patients were observed. Data were analyzed to study the effect of Bufei granule, with the frequency of acute exacerbation as the primary outcome. Traditional Chinese medicine syndromes,Modified British Medical Research Council dyspnea scale score, ***'s respiratory questionnaire scores, pulmonary function, and serum inflammatory marker levels [including interleukin-6(IL-6), interleukin-8, tumor necrosis factor-α, and transformation growth factor-β1]were the secondary ***: During the 12-week treatment, treatment and control groups had no adverse *** analysis of the indexes obtained from all patients showed that the therapeutic effect in the treatment group was significantly better than that in the control group because most of the similar probabilities of primary and secondary outcomes were less than 0.05,except for the level of ***: Bufei granule can treat patients with stable COPD by lowering the frequency of acute exacerbation, improving the quality of life,and alleviating the severity of inflammation.
