Video-based vibration measurement is a cost-effective way for remote monitoring the health conditions of transportation and other civil structures, especially for situations where accessibility is restricted and does not allow installation of conventional monitoring devices. Besides, video-based system is global measurement. The technical basis of video-based remote vibration measurement system is digital image analysis. Comparison of the images allow the field of motion to be accurately delineated. Such information is important to understand the structure behaviors including the motion and strain distribution. This paper presents system and analyses to monitor the vibration velocity and displacement field. The performance is demonstrated on a testbed of model building. Three different methods （i.e., frame difference method, particle image velocimetry, and optical Flow Method） are utilized to analyze the image sequences to extract the feature of motion. The Performance is validated using accelerometer data. The results indicate that all three methods can estimate the velocity field of the model building, although the results can be affected by factors such as background noise and environmental interference. Optical flow method achieved the best performance among these three methods studied. With further refinement of system hardware and image processing software, it will be developed into a remote video based monitoring system for structural health monitoring of transportation infrastructure to assist the diagnoses of its health conditions.

Overexpression of Bax sensitizes prostate cancer cells to TGF-β induced apoptosis

NRP-154 is a tumorigenic epithelial cell line derived from the preneoplastic dorsal-lateral prostate of rats. These cells are exquisitely sensitive to TGF-β induced apoptosis. In contrast, we find that NRP-154 cells can sustain overexpression of exogenous Bax protein, which is different from non-tumor cells where Bax functions as a ubiquitous stimulator of apoptosis. NRP-154 cells stably overexpressing Bax show increased sensitivity to TGF-β induced apoptosis. The degree of TGF-β induced apoptosis displays high correlation with cleavage of Bax at the amino-terminus. Our data indicate that prostate cancer cells can host high levels of latent Bax which can be activated through post-translational modification.

Pathologic tumor response to neoadjuvant therapy in borderline resectable pancreatic cancer

Background:Previous studies have demonstrated the prognostic significance of pathologic tumor response in pancreatic adenocarcinoma following neoadjuvant therapy(NAT).The aim of this study was to determine the incidence of significant pathologic response to NAT in borderline resectable pancreatic cancer(BRPC),and association of NAT regimen and other clinico-pathologic characteristics with pathologic ***:Patients with BRPC who underwent NAT and pancreatic resection between January 2012 and June 2017 were *** response was assessed on a qualitative scale based on the College of American Pathologists grading *** and baseline characteristics,oncologic treatment,pathology,and survival outcomes were ***:Seventy-one patients were included for *** patients had complete pathologic responses(tumor regression score 0),12 patients had marked responses(score 1),42 had moderate responses(score 2),and 13 had minimal responses(score 3).Patients with complete or marked responses were more likely to have received neoadjuvant gemcitabine chemoradiation(62.5%,38.1%,and 23.1%of the complete/marked,moderate,and minimal response groups,respectively;P=0.04).Of the complete/marked,moderate,and minimal response groups,margins were negative in 75.0%,78.6%,and 46.2%(P=0.16);node negative disease was observed in 87.5%,54.8%,and 15.4%(P<0.01);and median overall survival was 50.0 months,31.7 months,and 23.2 months(P=0.563).Of the four patients with pathologic complete responses,three were disease-free at 66.1,41.7 and 31.4 months,and one was deceased with metastatic liver disease at 16.9 ***:A more pronounced pathologic tumor response to NAT in BRPC is correlated with node negative disease,but was not associated with a statistically significant survival benefit in this study.

AIM: To examine eplerenone(Inspra, Pfizer), a mineralocorticoid receptor antagonist, as a treatment option for chronic central serous chorioretinopathy(CSCR).METHODS: A retrospective consecutive case series was conducted for patients receiving oral eplerenone for chronic CSCR. At baseline and each follow-up visit,spectral domain optical coherence tomography(SD-OCT)imaging was performed, including manual measurements of the height and diameter size of subretinal fluid. The primary outcome measure was the reduction in subretinal fluid following initiation of ***: A total of 17 eyes of 13 patients treated with25 and 50 mg of oral eplerenone per day were *** fluid(SRF) decreased over time following eplerenone therapy(P = 0.007 and P =0.002, diameter and height respectively). Maximum SRF height decreased from a mean of 131.5 μm at baseline to 15.3 μm at day181+. SRF diameter decreased from an average of 2174.4μm at baseline to 46.9 μm at day 181 +. Log MAR visual acuity improved from 0.42(Snellen equivalent: 20/53) at baseline to 0.29(Snellen equivalent: 20/39) at day 181 +(P = 0.024). Central subfield thickness(CST) decreased from 339.5 μm at baseline to 270.3 μm at day 181+(P = 0.029).CONCLUSION: Eplerenone therapy resulted in significant anatomic and visual improvements in eyes with chronic CSCR.

On geometric interpretation of extended state observer: a preliminary study

Borrowing the framework of the geometric approach, this paper tries to analyze and explain why it is possible for the extended state observer (ESO) to estimate the state vector and total disturbance accurately. The geometric approach has provided an elegant and rigorous framework to redefine some key concepts in modern control theory, such as controllability and observability. Moreover, those concepts can be extended to deal with systems in the presence of inaccessible disturbances, such as controlled invariants and conditioned invariants. It is shown in this paper that the augmented system of the ESO is unknown-state unknown-input completely reconstructable in finite time interval. A numerical simulation is given to verify the state vector and total disturbance can be estimated accurately by the ESO if the augmented system is unknown-state unknown-input completely reconstructable.
