Lithium Isotope Analytical Methods and Implications for Rare-Metal Mineralization in Granite-Pegmatite Systems: An Overview

The origin of highly-fractionated granite-pegmatite systems and their associated rare metal mineralization has been widely studied， but there is still ongoing debate. Prevailing hypotheses suggest that pegmatite formation and the associated rare metal mineralization are closely related to aqueous fluid processes. Lithium (Li) isotope analysis has been widely applied to trace granite-pegmatite evolution. This is because lithium is widely present in various minerals (e.g.， mica， tourmaline) that record the melt and fluid compositions， and lithium isotopes are sensitive to magmatic-hydrothermal processes. We briefly review the methodology of Li isotope analyses， the mechanisms of Li isotopic fractionation， and， in particular， Li isotope fractionation in granite-pegmatite system based on Li isotope data we have collected and the latest developments in Li isotope geochemistry. With the development of analytical technology， high-precision measurement of the Li content and isotopic compositions have facilitated a series of scientific breakthroughs in understanding the magmatic-hydrothermal evolution of rare-element ore deposits. Li isotope analysis on bulk mineral separates show ability to trace various hydrothermal processes (e.g. exotic or exsolved fluids). In situ Li isotope analysis methods has been enhanced by the development of new， homogeneous mineral reference materials. In situ SIMS and LA-MC-ICP-MS Li isotope measurements on minerals (e.g.， tourmaline) will likely become more important in studying the fluid–rock interactions in magmatic， metamorphic， and hydrothermal processes， as well as on pegmatite petrogenesis and rare-metal mineralization.

Munabulake ophiolitic mélange:Implication for the evolution history of the north branch of the Proto-Tethys ocean

One of the ophiolites that record the Proto-Tethys Ocean’s episodic closure is the Munabulake ophiolitic mélange,which is situated in the middle of the Kunlun-Qaidam and Altun-Qilian *** field mapping revealed that the Munabulake ophiolitic mélange comprises local(ultramafic rocks,basalts,andesites,gabbros,diorites,and plagiogranites)and exotic(marble,gneiss,schist,and amphibolite)blocks,many of which are in the schist matrix(Qimantage Group).Based on geochronological,geochemical,and petrological observations,the mafic rocks in the Munabulake ophiolitic mélange can be categorized into three categories:498-Ma OIB-like gabbros,468-Ma Hawaiian alkaline basalt-like dolerite and pillow basaltic slices,and 428 Ma massive SSZ-like ultramafic *** 501-452 Ma I-type granites exhibit arc affinities due to the oceanic crust *** findings,along with spatial relationships,suggest that the Early Paleozoic ophiolite complex,island arc rocks,and accretionary complex generated as an intra-oceanic arc system as a result of obduction of the south Altun Ocean’s onto the Central Altun block within a north-directed subduction event.A dextral strike-slip was evident throughout the Early Paleozoic oceanic crust subduction based on the whole set of planar and linear structural data,and the subduction polarity was likely to the *** to the ophiolitic mélange’s youngest rocks and the existence of 413 Ma granite dykes that are widely exposed in the Munabulake ophiolitic mélange,the Munabulake ophiolitic mélange was most likely emplaced during the Middle *** Munabulake ophiolitic mélange is similar in age and petrochemical characteristics to the other ophiolites in the South Altun subduction-collision belt,indicating that the Manabulak ophiolite mélange is a westward extension of the Apa-Mangya subduction-collision belt,which formed during the northward subduction of the South Altun Ocean slab during the Early ***,the final closing ti

Structural characteristics,dispersion,and modification of fibrous brucite

Fibrous bmcite has very unique structure and physical properties. Brucite fibers were exfoliated into single nanofibers by using dioctyl sodium sulfosuccinate （AOT） as a dispersant through mechanical agitation and ultrasonic dispersion; and then, the nanofibers were modified by stearic acid and （3-aminopropyl）triethoxysilane （y-APS） compound modification agent. The nanofibers were characterized by using X-ray diffraction （XRD）, scanning electron microscopy （SEM）, transmission electron microscopy （TEM）, Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, and thermal gravimetric analysis. It is found that AOT has good effect on the dispersion. The single fiber has a consis- tent morphology, and fibrous bmcite is dispersed and modified without destroying the crystal structure. Infrared and thermal analysis shows that the surface modification of fibrous brucite is achieved by forming chemical bonds between the coupling agent and magnesium hydroxide.

Anchimetamorphism of the Neoproterozoic and the Lower Paleozoic along the Profile of Yuanguping in Western Hunan Province, china

The Neoproterozoic and Lower Paleozoic along the profile of Yuanguping in western Hunan Province, china underwent anchimetamorphism. The illite crystallinity (IC) of the <2 μm fractions ranges from 0.23-0.34°△2θfor the Neoproterozoic to 0.23-0.35°△A2θ for the Lower Paleozoic (calibrated with the Kisch IC set, Kisch, 1991). This indicates that the metamorphic grade of the Neoproterozoic and Lower Paleozoic is the anchizone. The peak metamorphic temperature is estimated to be 290-210℃. This result does not agree with the greenschist or subgreenschist facies of the Banxi Group, nor with the lower-greenschist facies or sedimentary cover of the Sinian to Lower Paleozoic, as most previous researchers thought. The illite (K-mica) b0 values range from 0.9074 to 0.8963 (nm) for the Neoproterozoic and the Lower Paleozoic. Based on cumulative frequency curves of the illite (K-mica) b0, the peak metamorphic pressure of the Banxi Group was derived to be of a type that is slightly higher than that of the N. New Hampshire low-intermediate pressure type. Most illites occur as the 2M1 polytype and some in the Neoproterozoic as a mixture of the 2M1+1M types. The distributions of coherent scanning domains (CSDs) of illites along the profile, measured with the XRD method, display a lognormal model and spread out with decreasing Kubler Index of IC. It indicates that illites underwent an Ostwald ripening. The post-anchimetamorphic structural movement not only results in a series of faults but also induces the lattice strain in minerals along the faults and hence impacts the illite crystallinity and causes diagenetic samples to occur within the anchizone. Compared with the cases in eastern and central Hunan Province, the Neoproterozoic and Lower Paleozoic rocks in the west underwent a lower-temperature anchimetamorphism with a pressure lower than that in the east and higher than that in the center of Hunan Province.

The Tongbai orogenic belt(TOB)is composed of six tectonic *** south to north these units are:Tongbai gneiss rise(TGR);Hongyihe-Luozhuang eclogite belt(HLE);Ma-opo-Hujiazhai igneous rock belt(MHI);Zhoujiawan flysch belt(ZFB);Yangzhuang greenschist belt(YGB);and Dongjiazhuang marble belt(DMB).The geometry and kinematic images of the TOB in-clude:the antiformal structures caused by a later uplift process,the top-to-north ductile shear struc-ture that related to a process that the ultrahigh pressure rocks are brought to surface,the top-to-south ductile shear thrust and the sinistrial shear structures related to a south-north direction compression,and the east-west direction fold structures in the upper *** the view of the multistage subduc-tion-collision orogenic belt,according to the characters of petrology and its distribution,geometry,kinematics and structural chronology in these tectonic units,tectonic evolution of the TOB can be divided into four stages:oceanic crust subduction during 400―300 Ma,continental collision during 270―250 Ma,continental deep subduction and uplift during 250―205 Ma and doming deformation during 200―185 Ma.

Geochronology and Sr-Nd-Hf isotopic composition of the granites,enclaves,and dikes in the Karamay area,NW china:Insights into late Carboniferous crustal growth of West Junggar

New whole-rock major and trace elements, and zircon U Pb and Hf-Nd isotope compositions are reported for the Karamay dikes, enclaves, and host granites in the West Junggar, NW china. Zircon U -Pb dating of the l（aramay pluton yields an age of 300.7 ~ 2.3 Ma for the enclave and 300.0 ~ 2.6 Ma for the host granite, which was intruded by dike with an age of 298 Ma. The host granites exhibit relatively low SiO2 contents and A/CNK and Ga/Al ratios, low initial 87Sr/86Sr ratios （0.703421 0.703526） and positive eHf（t）（5.5--14.1） and eNd（t）（7.3--8.1） values with a young model age, suggesting that they are I-type granites and were mainly derived from a juvenile lower crustal source. The enclaves and dikes belong to an andesitic calc-alkaline series and have high MgO concentrations at low silica content and positive eHf（t）（7.6--13.2, 14.2--14.9） and εNd（t）（6.8-8.3, ~6.9） values. They are enriched in LILEs （Rb, Ba and U） and LREE and depleted in HFSEs （Nb and Ta） with insignificant negative Eu anomalies, indicating that the melts were derived from an enriched lithospheric mantle modified by subducted oceanic crust-derived melts and minor fluids, followed by fractional crystallization. The Karamay host granites and enclaves are of mixed origin and are most probably formed by the interaction between the lower crust-and lithospheric mantle-derived magmas, and were intruded by the unmixed dikes subsequently. The upwelling mantle through a slab window in an island arc environment might have triggered partial melting of the lithospheric mantle and its subsequent interaction with the granitic magma, further suggesting that the ridge subduction played an important role in the crustal growth of West lun^gar.

High Mg# of the continental crust explained by calc-alkaline differentiation
