Exercise-with-melatonin therapy improves sleep disorder and motor dysfunction in a rat model of ischemic stroke

Exercise-with-melatonin therapy has complementary and synergistic effects on spinal cord injury and Alzheimer’s disease, but its effect on stroke is still poorly understood. In this study, we established a rat model of ischemic stroke by occluding the middle cerebral artery for 60 minutes. We treated the rats with exercise and melatonin therapy for 7 consecutive days. Results showed that exercise-with-melatonin therapy significantly prolonged sleep duration in the model rats, increased delta power values, and regularized delta power rhythm. Additionally, exercise-with-melatonin therapy improved coordination, endurance, and grip strength, as well as learning and memory abilities. At the same time, it led to higher hippocampal CA1 neuron activity and postsynaptic density thickness and lower expression of glutamate receptor 2 than did exercise or melatonin therapy alone. These findings suggest that exercise-withmelatonin therapy can alleviate sleep disorder and motor dysfunction by increasing glutamate receptor 2 protein expression and regulating hippocampal CA1 synaptic plasticity.

Mediatic sporting events are increasingly used in the geopolitical arena to gain consensus, at the same time emerging as platforms for the discussion of social issues, such as human rights and sustainability. This article presents an investigation into the role of mediatic sporting events and digital platforms in sparking political debate and social engagement to bring about change, including discussions on global and local interests and the performances of activist fans to promote debate on specific issues. The investigation employs a quantitative methodology. The initial inductive analysis uses a matrix of cultural key-frames of the empowerment and protest that accompany media sporting events, verifying their presence and effectiveness in different communication milieus. An analysis of the representation of protests on social media was performed through content analysis. The results of the investigation show that mediatic sporting events are to be understood as a diverse range of generators of multiple political effects: from the exercise of power to mass mobilization and media criticism.

Background and Objectives: Ankle injuries are the most common type of injury in healthy active individuals. If not treated properly, recurrent sprains can lead to a condition of chronic ankle instability (CAI). The present paper examines some subjects with a previous history of acute inversion ankle sprain who have developed a subsequent condition of instability, grouping them according to inclusion criteria and analyzing them through four field tests considered objective by the scientific literature: SEBT test, BEES test, TIBT test, SHT test. The data obtained were stored in order to compare them following a re-education protocol aimed at improving proprioception, balance, walking and strengthening the extrinsic and intrinsic muscles of the foot. per year. The subjects were then divided into two categories: subjects with CAI > 1 year and subjects with CAI ≤ 1 year. A protocol lasting 6 weeks was administered to both groups, trying to work on improving balance in single stance, improving static and dynamic stability, strengthening the gluteus medius and maximus (pelvis stabilizers) and strengthening of the intrinsic muscles of the foot. At the end of the protocol the subjects were all re-evaluated with the same field tests used previously and the data obtained were compared both with the pre-protocol data and with the data measured by the control subjects.

Purpose:To examine the effects of a school-based karate intervention on academic achievement,psychosocial functioning,and physical fitness in children aged 7-8 years.Methods:Twenty schools in 5 different European countries(2 second-grade classrooms per school)participated in a cluster randomized controlled trial(Sport at School trial).Participants were assigned to either a control group,which continued with their habitual physical education lessons,or to an intervention group,which replaced these lessons with a 1-year karate intervention(Karate Mind and Movement program).A total of 721 children(344 girls and 377 boys,7.4±0.5 years old,mean±SD)completed the study,of which 333 and 388 were assigned to the control group and intervention group,respectively.Outcomes included academic performance(average grade),psychosocial functioning(Strengths and Difficulties Questionnaire for parents),and different markers of physical fitness(cardiorespiratory fitness,balance,and flexibility).Results:The intervention provided small but significant benefits compared to the control group for academic achievement(d=0.16;p=0.003),conduct problems(d=-0.28;p=0.003),cardiorespiratory fitness(d=0.36;p0.05).Conclusion:A 1-year school-based karate intervention was effective in improving academic achievement,conduct problems,and physical fitness in primary school children.The results support the inclusion of karate during physical education lessons.

Lung cancer has become one of the key life-threatening factors and is the most common type of tumor.With the improvement of equipment and the improvement of lung cancer awareness,the surgical treatment of lung cancer is becoming more and more mature.Surgery can provide an important part of individualized treatment strategies for patients with different stages of lung cancer and different wishes.In addition,the concept of minimally invasive,precise,and intelligent has triggered a revolutionary change in the surgical treatment strategy for lung cancer.Therefore,this review focuses on the development of lung cancer surgery history,summarizing the era from traditional surgery to the era of minimally invasive thoracic surgery based on TV-assisted thoracic surgery.The operating methods and treatment effects of different surgical methods are comprehensively introduced,and the optimization and improvement of different surgical methods in the future are also discussed.Along with the concept of minimally invasive surgical techniques,there are more and more explorations of nanotechnology in the surgical treatment of lung cancer.The application of nanotechnology in lung cancer imaging,and the combination of surgery with nanomedicine is an effective solution for cancer treatment today.So,this review also summarizes the application prospects of nanotechnology before,during and after lung cancer surgery.

High-fat diet (HFD) consumption induces gut microbiota dysbiosis and neuropsychiatric disorders， including anxiety. Previous research found that Tremella polysaccharide (TP) exhibited neuroprotective effects in vitro and in vivo. This study aimed to investigate the beneficial effects of TP on HFD-induced anxiety-like behaviors and elucidate the underlying mechanisms from the point view of the microbiota-gut-brain axis. Two groups of HFD-induced obese mice were orally gavaged with low dose (TPL， 40 mg/kg) and high dose (TPH， 400 mg/kg) of TP. A 12-week administration of TPH could significantly improve anxiety-like behaviors in HFD mice. In the hippocampus， microglia activation， the expression of blood-brain barrier (BBB) markers， and the levels of two neurotransmitters (serotonin and norepinephrine) were countered by TPH in mice consuming HFD. Furthermore， TPH improved the intestinal permeability and immune response of the enterocytes in HFD-fed mice. The gut microbiota dysbiosis induced by HFD was also rebalanced by TP treatments， especially in Proteobacteria and its lower taxa. The correlational analysis also suggested that shifts of some microbial genera were closely associated with body weight and the parameters of behavioral tests. Interestingly， fecal microbiota transplantation (FMT) results indicated that fecal microbiota from TPH-treated obese mice could prevent HFD-induced anxiety-like behaviors， suppressing microglia activation and intestinal permeability. In conclusion， the present study indicated that TP intake is a promising dietary intervention strategy to prevent HFD-induced anxiety via the microbiota-gut-brain axis.

Since the publication of Einstein’s theory of general relativity, a variety of interpretations have been suggested. In 1937, Paul Dirac presented his Large Number Hypothesis (LNH) based on the large difference between gravitational and electromagnetic forces. As a consequence, the energy is proportional to the radius squared and the gravitational constant is inversely proportional to the radius of the universe. The energy increases during expansion, Dirac used the term “additive creation”. The objective is to prove the validity of Dirac’s claims. A new theory, CBU (Continuously Breeding Universe), has been developed. The universe is considered a black hole originating from the single fluctuation of a positron-electron pair. The expansion is driven by the formation of new pairs. The negative gravitational potential energy balances the increase in matter energy. Due to G ~ 1/r, the Planck length and Planck time tP depend on the curvature of space. The Schrödinger solution of an initial positron-electron fluctuation contains a parameter equal to the Planck length. The CBU theory postulates that the primordial universe undergoes a transition from a black hole to a photon-filled universe. After the transition, one half of the energy is bound to numerous “small” black holes, the seeds for galaxies, while the other half propagates as CMB (Cosmic Microwave Background) radiation. The CMB photons are due to e+ -e- annihilations. Characteristically, the CMB photons are pairwise entangled, the radiation loses wave energy but compensates by increasing the photon numbers. According to a new model for black holes, a continuous inflow of matter prevents the black holes from becoming singularities. An energy gap between the event horizon and the inner photon sphere is the source of real matter from a QED vacuum foam. There is evidence that all stellar matter originates from a proton-antiproton outflow from the galaxy central black hole.

Effect of Ca/Mg molar ratio on the calcium-based sorbents

Steelmaking industry faces urgent demands for both steel slag utilization and CO_(2)abatement.Ca and Mg of steel slag can be extracted by acid solution and used to prepare sorbents for CO_(2)capture.In this work,the calcium-based sorbents were prepared from stainless steel slag leachate by co-precipitation,and the initial CO_(2)chemisorption capacity of the calcium-based sorbent prepared from steel slag with the Ca and Mg molar ratio of 3.64:1 was 0.40 g/g.Moreover,the effect of Ca/Mg molar ratio on the morphology,structure,and CO_(2)chemisorption capacity of the calcium-based sorbents were investigated.The results show that the optimal Ca/Mg molar ratio of sorbent for CO_(2)capture was4.2:1,and the skeleton support effect of MgO in calcium-based sorbents was determined.Meanwhile,the chemisorption kinetics of the sorbents was studied using the Avrami-Erofeev model.There were two processes of CO_(2)chemisorption,and the activation energy of the first stage(reaction control)was found to be lower than that of the second stage(diffusion control).

Infants exhibit diminished susceptibility to external infections， a phenomenon closely linked to the pervasive presence of the bifidobacterial community within their intestinal tract. Nonetheless， a significant knowledge gap remains concerning the distinct species of bifidobacteria initiating anti-infection immune responses during the early developmental stages. In this study， the impact of early intervention with Bifidobacterium bifidum (B. bifidum)， B. breve， and B. longum on neonatal rats infected with Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium (S. typhimurium) SL1344 were compared. The study encompasses various immunity levels， including gut immunity， central immunity (thymus)， peripheral immunity (spleen)， and brain immunity. Following Salmonella infection， significant alterations in neonatal rats were observed in growth and developmental levels， immune markers， cytokine levels， balance of T lymphocyte subpopulations， intestinal barrier function， and blood-brain barrier integrity. Compared with B. breve and B. longum， B. bifidum demonstrated more pronounced efficacy in regulating these physiological processes. By conducting multi-level analyses of gut microbiota， bifidobacterial community， colonic content metabolomics， and serum metabolomics， the significance of B. bifidum's role is underscored， and the immune-enhancing function of messenger metabolites is unveiled. Among these metabolites， γ-L-Glutamyl-L-glutamic acid and Orotic acid were found to be shared by all three species， while Hippuric acid and 1a，1b-dihomo Prostaglandin F2α were unique to B. bifidum， and DL-Arginine was specific to B. longum. Overall， this study has provided novel insights into the intervention and immunomodulation by Bifidobacterium in early-life infections， emphasizing the significant role of B. bifidum.
