Mediated by pollenﬂow,natural hybridization is deemed a crucial factor that propels speciation inﬂoral *** the fact that the diversity of Epimedium species is concentrated mainly in Southwestern China,the poten-tial impact of interspeciﬁc pollination on natural hybridization has yet to be empirically *** explore this,we studied theﬂowering period and the visitors ofﬂowers in three frequently overlapping Epimedium species at Jinchengshan National Forest Park,located in Nanchong,Sichuan ***,we performed a ser-ies of pollination experiments to examine breeding systems and hybrid ***,Epime-dium pubescens and Epimedium wushanense are clearly distinct and easily recognizable byﬂower morphology,while the putative hybrid is morphologically intermediate between *** observation revealed that ***-escens and *** had 15 days of overlapping *** species are self-incompatible and require pol-linator services for successful *** their pollinators differ in quantity and species,Lasioglossum sp.(Hymenoptera:Halictidae)visited all three ***ﬁcial pollination revealed no breeding barriers among the three species,and the resulting hybrid seeds exhibited *** overlapping time ofﬂowering,commonﬂoral visitors,and compatibility of hybrids may be important factors contributing to successful interspeciﬁc pol-lination and speciation for natural hybrid species of *** and ***,the role of potential interspeciﬁc pollination is crucial for hybrid speciation and the evolutionary dynamics of Epimedium species.

Antimicrobial resistance in the laying hen production industry has become a serious public health *** antimicrobial resistance and phylogenetic relationships of the common conditional pathogen Enterococcus along the laying hen production chain have not been systematically clarified.105 Enterococcus isolates were obtained from 115 environmental samples (air,dust,feces,fies,sewage,and soil) collected along the laying hen production chain (breeding chicken,chick,young chicken,and commercial laying hen).These Enterococcus isolates exhibited resistance to some clinically relevant antibiotics,such as tetracycline (92.4%),streptomycin (92.4%),and erythromycin (91.4%),and all strains had multidrug resistance *** genome sequencing characterized 29 acquired antibiotic resistance genes (ARGs) that conferred resistance to 11 classes of antibiotics in 51pleuromutilin-resistant Enterococcus isolates,and lsa(E),which mediates resistance to pleuromutilins,always co-occurred with lnu(B).Alignments with the Mobile Genetic Elements database identified four transposons (Tn554,Tn558,Tn6261,and Tn6674) with several ARGs(erm(A),ant(9)-la,fex(A),and optrA) that mediated resistance to many clinically important ***,we identified two new transposons that carried ARGs in the Tn554 family designated as Tn7508 and Tn7492.A complementary approach based on conventional multi-locus sequence typing and whole genome single nucleotide polymorphism analysis showed that phylogenetically related pleuromutilin-resistant Enterococcus isolates were widely distributed in various environments on different production *** results indicate that environmental contamination by antimicrobial-resistant Enterococcus requires greater attention,and they highlight the risk of pleuromutilin-resistant Enterococcus and ARGs disseminating along the laying hen production chain,thereby warranting effective disinfection.

Parkinson’s disease is a progressive neurodegenerative disease characterized by motor deficits,dopaminergic neuron loss,and brain accumulation ofα-synuclein aggregates called Lewy *** in protein degradation pathways,such as autophagy,has been demonstrated in neurons as a critical mechanism for eliminating protein aggregates in Parkinson’s ***,it is less well understood how protein aggregates are eliminated in glia,the other cell type in the *** the present study,we show that autophagy-related gene 9(Atg9),the only transmembrane protein in the autophagy machinery,is highly expressed in Drosophila glia from adult *** from immunostaining and live cell imaging analysis reveal that a portion of Atg9 localizes to the trans-Golgi network,autophagosomes,and lysosomes in ***9 is persistently in contact with these *** glial atg9 reduces the number of omegasomes and autophagosomes,and impairs autophagic substrate *** suggests that glial Atg9 participates in the early steps of autophagy,and hence the control of autophagic ***,loss of glial atg9 induces parkinsonian symptoms in Drosophila including progressive loss of dopaminergic neurons,locomotion deficits,and glial *** findings identify a functional role of Atg9 in glial autophagy and establish a potential link between glial autophagy and Parkinson’s *** results may provide new insights on the underlying mechanism of Parkinson’s disease.

Cotton is one of the most important economic crops in the world,and it is a major source of fiber in the textile ***(SLs)are a class of carotenoid-derived plant hormones involved in many processes of plant growth and development,although the functions of SL in fiber development remain largely ***,we found that the endogenous SLs were significantly higher in fibers at 20 days post-anthesis(DPA).Exogenous SLs significantly increased fiber length and cell wall ***,we cloned three key SL biosynthetic genes,namely GhD27,GhMAX3,and GhMAX4,which were highly expressed in fibers,and subcellular localization analyses revealed that GhD27,GhMAX3,and GhMAX4 were localized in the *** exogenous expression of GhD27,GhMAX3,and GhMAX4 complemented the physiological phenotypes of d27,max3,and max4 mutations in Arabidopsis,*** of GhD27,GhMAX3,and GhMAX4 in cotton resulted in increased numbers of axillary buds and leaves,reduced fiber length,and significantly reduced fiber *** findings revealed that SLs participate in plant growth,fiber elongation,and secondary cell wall formation in *** results provide new and effective genetic resources for improving cotton fiber yield and plant architecture.

The endochondral ossification of hindlimb is essential to a bird’s ability to stand,walk and *** hindlimb is ossified in the embryos before hatching in precocial ***,the molecular mechanisms of hindlimb ossification in birds is still ***,we tried to examine the process of hindlimb ossification and its molecular regulation by using an animal model—Japanese Quail(Coturnix japonica).We selected four critical stages(Embryo Day:E6,E8,E12 and E16) of skeletal development of embryonic quails for hindlimb skeleton staining to show the process of endochondral ossification and to examine the molecular regulation of endochondral osteogenesis by RNA-Seq *** results showed that ossification became increased with embryonic development and most hindlimb was ossified before ***-Seq analysis revealed that various signaling pathways were involved with endochondral ossification with thyroid hormone signaling and WNT signaling pathway particularly ***,the expression levels of 42 genes were continuously upregulated and 14 genes were continuously downregulated from E6 to *** present study might provide new insights into complex molecular mechanisms in regulation of endochondral ossification.

Comparative analysis of the microbiome of sympatric wintering Bean Geese,Domestic Ducks,humans,and soil at Shengjin Lake of China reveals potential public risk to human health

The gut microbiota of migratory waterbirds is affected by various complex factors,including cross-species transmission,which increases the risk of pathogen spreading among sympatric animals and poses a potential public health risk to *** this study,we investigated the microbial communities of wintering Bean Geese(Anser fabalis),Domestic Ducks(*** domesticus),humans,and soil using high-throughput sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene region in Shengjin Lake,*** total,6,046,677 clean reads were obtained,representing 41,119 operational taxonomic units(OTUs)across the four *** dominant microbial phyla were the Proteobacteria,Firmicutes,Bacteroidota,and *** Sorensen similarity index and alpha and beta diversity results showed that the gut microbial communities of Bean Geese and Domestic Ducks were more similar to those of the other *** analysis revealed that Faecalibacterium prausnitzii,Pseudomonas fragi,and Bradyrhizobium elkanii were hubs of the three major *** common microbiomes were iden-tified in Bean Geese,Domestic Ducks,humans,and soil in Shengjin Lake.A total of 96 potential pathogens were identified among the four groups,with 20 specific potentially pathogenic microbiomes found in the gut of Bean *** of these pathogens are responsible for significant financial losses in the poultry industry and pose risks to human *** pneumoniae,Morganella morganii,Escherichia coli,and Ralstonia insidiosa are potential core pathogens found in the four groups at Shengjin Lake that can cause diseases in humans and an-imals and facilitate cross-species transmission through various ***,humans are at risk of con-tracting these pathogens from migratory birds because of their frequent contact with domestic ***,further studies are required to explore the potential pathogenic species and transmission pathways among sympatric wintering Bean Geese,Domestic Ducks,humans,and soil.

The gut microbiota plays a pivotal role in the maintenance of health for amphibians,and it has been fully recognized,but the effectiveness of various influencing factors has not yet been fully *** this association should be considered while the amphibian order Caudata is facing a severe situation of population decline and extinction,there is little understanding of the association between diets and the diversity of gut microbiota in the amphibian order ***,we conducted an extensive analysis of the gut microbiota of Cynops orientalis fed different diets using functional prediction and 16S rRNA amplicon sequencing ***,we found that wild individuals had greater gut microbial diversity and richness in comparison to captive ***,we identified the bacterial taxa associated with diets and observed differences in the relative abundance of gut microbiota among people on various ***,we have a predictive comprehension of the selection and adaptative significance of shared core ASVs in the gut microbiota in maintaining the healthy survival of *** in a large-scale spatiotemporal *** study emphasizes how diets alter the gut microbiota of Caudata and offers fresh perspectives on the conservation and captive management of species in Caudata.

Evaluating the effects of temperature variations on animals plays an important role in understanding the threat of climate *** effects of developmental temperature on offspring performance are critical in evaluating the effects of warming temperatures on the fitness of ovipa-rous species,but the physiological and biochemical basis of this developmental plasticity is largely *** this study,we incubated eggs of the turtle Pelodiscus sinensis at low(24℃),medium(28℃),and high(32℃)temperatures,and evaluated the effects of developmental temperature on offspring fitness,and metabolic enzymes in the neck and limb muscles of *** hatchlings from eggs incubated at the medium temperature showed better fitness-related performance(righting response and swimming capacity)and higher activities of metabolic enzymes(hexokinase,HK;lactate dehydrogenase,LDH)than hatchlings from the eggs incubated at high or low *** addition,the swimming speed and righting response were significantly correlated with the HK activities in limb(swimming speed)and neck(righting response)muscles,suggesting that the developmental plasticity of energy metabolic pathway might play a role in determining the way incubation temperature affects offspring *** the fitness-related performance and the activities of metabolic enzymes,we predict that the P sinensis from high latitude would not face the detrimental effects of climate warming until the average nest temperatures reach 32℃.
