Objective:To detect Salmonella typhimurium(***),one of the most frequently isolated serovars from food borne outbreaks throughout the world,in retail raw chicken meat and ***:One hundred samples of retail raw chicken meat and giblets(Liver,heart and gizzard)which were collected from Assiut city markets for detection of the organism and by using Duplex PCR amplification of DNA using rfbj andfliC ***:*** was detected at rate of 44%,40%and 48%in chicken meat,liver and heart,respectively,but not detected in ***:The results showed high incidence of *** in the examined samples and greater emphasis should be applied on prevention and control of contamination during processing for reducing food-borne risks to consumers.

Most methods used by food industries to decontaminate eggs involve washing of egg surface with various chemicals. In this study, the effectiveness of two organic decontaminants viz., acidified sodium chlorite (ASC) and cell free culture supernatant (CFCS) of two lactic acid bacteria (Lactobacillus plantarum and Pediococcus cerevisiae) was evaluated for the decontamination of spiked Salmonella typhimurium on chicken egg shell surface. Acidified sodium chlorite at 100 μl/L concentration with the contact time of 20 min completely inhibited S. typhimurium on egg shell surface while at 50 μl/L concentration 1 - 2 log10 units reduction was observed in counts of S. typhimurium as compared to control group. Likewise, CFCS of P. cerevisiae completely inhibited the growth of S. typhimurium on 30 min contact, whereas L. plantarum and combination of both were revealed significant reduction in the counts of S. typhimurium counts.

Quantitative Microbiological Evaluation of Salmonellatyphimurium Shed in Diarrhea, Loose, and Normal Stools of Infected Pigs

Control of within-herd transmission of Salmonella is important for reducing the prevalence of this organism on pig farms and for preventing Salmonella-contamination of pork. At the farm level, understanding the within-herd transmission of Salmonella can lead to more effective control. Salmonella infection is dependent on the inoculation dose;hence, quantitative evaluation of Salmonella shed in feces would provide useful information for developing effective measures. In this study, to reproduce and evaluate the number of Salmonella shed in diarrhea, loose stools, and normal feces, weaned pigs were inoculated with 3.2 × 109, 3.2 × 107, and 3.2 × 105 cfu of Salmonella typhimurium, respectively. The number of S. typhimurium shed in the feces peaked within 1 week post-inoculation in every group and the most amount of diarrhea and loose stools were observed within 2 weeks post-inoculation. Diarrhea occurred 10 times (six pigs), and loose stools were observed 25 times (11 pigs). The average concentration of S. typhimurium shed in diarrhea, loose stools, and normal feces was 1.0 × 108, 1.6 × 104, and 7.1 × 101 cfu/g feces, respectively. These data suggest that diarrhea and loose stools are significant sources of within-herd transmission of Salmonella. Moreover, as some of the normal feces contained >1.0 × 106 cfu/g of S. typhimurium, even normal feces could be a source of within-herd transmission of Salmonella. At Salmonella-positive farms, reduction of the amount of Salmonella shed even in normal feces would lead to better control of within-herd transmission of Salmonella. These data can contribute to the control of within-herd transmission of Salmonella, particularly during the weaning period.

The health risks posed by Salmonella spp., Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella typhimurium through the consumption of raw vegetables and vegetarian burger patties necessitates the needs for the optimization of analytical approach for their detection and enumeration in the raw vegetables, which served as potential vehicles for transmission of these pathogenic microorganisms. We sought to establish a rapid, economic and sensitive method to detect and determine the load of Salmonella spp., Salmonella Enteritidis and Salmonella typhimurium using the most probable numbers (MPN) in combination with the multiplex polymerase chain reaction (MPCR). From the naturally contaminated one hundred and seventy five samples tested (n = 175), the overall prevalence of Salmonella spp. was 28%, Salmonella Enteritidis was 20% and Salmonella typhimurium was 14.3%, respectively. The MPN-MPCR is a quantitative method to determine the density of cell concentration of Salmonella in all the samples (Salmonella spp. ranged from typhimurium ranged from typhimurium in vegetables and the vegetarian burger patties since it can significantly reduce time and labour with analysis completed within 2 days, as opposed to the traditional confirmation method that can take up to 5 days for unequivocal identification of species.

Background and Objective: Syzygium aromaticum is an immunomodulator with the main active compound eugenol which can stimulate the function of lymphocyte proliferation and macrophage production. Lymphocytes play an important role for body protection against infection. This study aims to analyze the effect of S. aromaticum extract to increase proliferation of lymphocytes, lymphoblasts and macrophage production in Balb/c mice infected with Salmonella typhimurium. Methodology: Mice strain Balb/c were divided into 4 groups: treatment group infected with S. typhimurium and control group (without treatment) to tested the activity of peritoneal macrophages. The treatment group was administrated by S. aromaticum leaf extract (15 mg, 75 mg, 150 mg/kgbw) for 12 days. Results: S. aromaticum leaf extract increased the proliferation activity (p Conclusion: Administration of S. aromaticum leaf extract increased the proliferation activity of lymphocytes, lymphoblasts and ROI secretion of macrophagesin Balb/c mice infected with S. typhimurium.

A synthetic hybrid 45-peptide gene of Plasmodium falciparum (Pf), which encoded two CSP repeated peptides NANP and three merozoite peptides SPf83. 1, SPf55. 1 and SPf35. 1, was cloned in an expression vector pWR450-1, then the recombinant plasmid pWRA was introduced into the attenuated Salmonella typhimurium SL3261. When used as a live vaccine and administered orally (po), intravenously (iv) or intraperitoneally (ip),the recombinant strain was able to live in vivo and elicit specific humoral and cellular immunity in BALB/c mice and rabbits. As oral immunization is safe and effective, it is thought that the live recombinant Salmonella typhimurium vaccine may bring the Pf oral live vaccine a step nearer.
