BACKGROUND Antipsychotic drugs remain the mainstay of schizophrenia treatment;however,their effectiveness has been questioned,and it is not possible to predict the response to a specific antipsychotic drug in an individual patient.Thus,it is important to compare the effectiveness of the various antipsychotics and search for possible response predictors.AIM To investigate the effectiveness of antipsychotic drugs,we examined response trajectories and predictors for belonging to different trajectory groups.METHODS The Bergen-Stavanger-Innsbruck-Trondheim(BeSt InTro)trial compared the effectiveness of three atypical antipsychotics-amisulpride,aripiprazole,and olanzapine-in a prospective,semirandomized,rater-blind,head-to-head design.Adult participants with a schizophrenia spectrum disorder diagnosis,according to international classification of diseases,Tenth Revision(ICD-10)F20–29,were included.Participants were followed for a period of 12 mo,with assessments at baseline;after one,three and six weeks;and after three,six,nine and 12 mo.A latent class mixed model was fitted to our data.The three-trajectory model based on the Positive and Negative Syndrome Scale(PANSS)total score reduction was found to have adequate fit,and the study drugs,as well as various demographic and clinical parameters,were tested as predictors for belonging to the different trajectory groups.RESULTS Overall,144 participants were included,and 41%completed the 12-mo study period.The largest trajectory group,consisting of 74%of participants,showed a PANSS total score reduction of 59%from baseline to 12 mo(Good response group).A trajectory group comprising 13%of participants had their PANSS total score reduced by 82.5%at 12 mo(Strong response group),while the last response trajectory group comprising 13%of the participants had a PANSS total score reduction of 13.6%(Slight response group).The largest part of the total reduction for the Good and Strong response groups occurred at six weeks of treatment,amounting to 45%and 48%reductions from baseline,

Background The impact of pediatric body mass index(BMI)trajectories on the risk of adolescent hypertension(HTN)determined by three separate visits remains unclear.This longitudinal study aims to identify potential pediatric sex-specific BMI trajectories and to assess their associations with HTN and HTN subtypes.Methods Based on the Health Promotion Program for Children and Adolescents(HPPCA)in Suzhou,China,a total of 24,426 participants who had initial normal blood pressure(BP)and had at least four BMI measurements during 2012-2020 were included.HTN was defined as simultaneously having three separate visits of elevated BP in 2020.Latent class growth models were used to explore sex-specific BMI trajectories,whose associations with HTN and HTN subtypes were further examined by logistic regression.Results The incidence of HTN determined through three separate visits was 3.34%.Four trajectories were identified for both sexes:low BMI increasing,medium BMI increasing,high BMI increasing,and highest BMI increasing.Compared to the medium BMI increasing group,the odds ratio(95%confidential interval)for developing adolescent HTN of the low,high,and highest BMI increasing groups among boys were 0.54(0.39,0.75),1.90(1.44,2.51),and 2.89(1.90,4.39),respectively;and the corresponding values for girls were 0.66(0.48,0.90),2.30(1.72,3.09),and 4.71(3.06,7.26).Similar gradually elevated associations between different trajectories with isolated systolic hypertension,systolic and diastolic hypertension were observed.Conclusion Current results emphasized the adverse effects of stable high BMI on HTN and the benefits of maintaining normal weight throughout childhood.

At-will chromatic dispersion by prescribing light trajectories with cascaded metasurfaces

Chromatic dispersion spatially separates white light into colours,producing rainbows and similar effects.Detrimental to imaging but essential to spectroscopy,chromatic dispersion is the result of material properties in refractive optics and is considered an inherent characteristic of diffractive devices such as gratings and flat lenses.Here,we present a fundamental relation connecting an optical system’s dispersion to the trajectories light takes through it and show that arbitrary control over dispersion may be achieved by prescribing specific trajectories,even in diffractive systems.Using cascaded metasurfaces(2D arrays of sub-micron scatterers)to direct light along predetermined trajectories,we present an achromatic twisted metalens and experimentally demonstrate beam deflectors with arbitrary dispersion.This new insight and design approach usher in a new class of optical systems with wide-ranging applications.

Particle swarm optimization applied to hypersonic reentry trajectories

Abstract This paper presents the novel use of the particle swarm optimization （PSO） to generate the end-to-end trajectory for hypersonic reentry vehicles in a quite simple formulation. The velocity- dependent bank angle profile is developed to reduce the search space of unknown parameters based on the constrained PSO algorithm. The path constraints are enforced by setting the fitness function to be infinite on condition that the particles violate the maximum allowable values. The PSO algo- rithm also provides a much easier means to satisfy the terminal conditions by adding penalty terms to the fitness function. Furthermore, the approximate reentry landing footprint is fast constructed by incorporating an interpolation model into the standardized bank angle profiles. Numerical sim ulations demonstrate that the PSO method is a feasible and flexible tool to generate the end-to-end trajectory and landing footprint for hypersonic reentry vehicles.

The calamitous consequences of 2017 Hurricane Maria for the Caribbean island of Dominica highlighted the acute and increasing susceptibility of the region to disasters. Despite increasing international attention to disaster risk reduction, recovery from hazard events can be especially lengthy and difficult for small island developing states. In this article, we build on existing understandings of disaster risk as a physical and social condition, showing that historical processes are fundamental to understanding how conditions of risk emerge and persist over time. We take an integrated approach to analyzing the drivers of risk accumulation, using the example of Dominica, where processes set in motion during the colonial period have shaped the location of people and assets, the degree to which they might be harmed, the societal repercussions of that harm and the prospects for recovery. We focus on the underlying economic vulnerabilities and physical exposure to hazards created by agricultural, economic, and social practices, and successive disaster responses that have constrained recovery. Uncovering these historical drivers and persistent issues, elucidates lessons for pursuing a more resilient development trajectory, including through the promotion of economic restructuring and diversification, and land reform.

Flow fields and particle trajectories beneath a tidal bore:A numerical study

Tidal bores may appear in some estuaries when the tides quickly reach a high level. This phenomenon is rare but has a strong impact during its short duration: i.e. the river bed is significantly eroded and sediments are then transported. In this paper, the trajectories of suspended particles induced by this flow are numerically studied. Four undular bores with Froude numbers between 1.1 and 1.2 are studied.Despite similar Froude numbers, various initial flow conditions were selected to produce or not an inversion of the flow direction during the bore passage. The particle trajectories associated with each distinct flow configuration are presented and analyzed. These trajectories, estimated by solving the Maxey-Riley equation, appear to be very different even though the Froude numbers of flows are similar.These observations are important because the Froude number is often used to characterize a tidal bore as it describes well the free surface, however, it cannot describe the sediment transport. Finally, Chen’s model of wave-current interactions is adapted to fit the cases studied and is applied to the four bores simulated. The results highlight that this latter model can reproduce the observed trajectories and dissociate their different components. From this model, it is shown that the inertial and Basset history effects can be neglected compared to the gravity and flow entrainment effects due to the viscous drag when one wants to determine the long-term trajectories of suspended particles.

Particle trajectories under interactions between solitary waves and a linear shear current

This paper is concerned with particle trajectories beneath solitary waves when a linear shear current exists.The fluid is assumed to be incompressible and inviscid,lying on a flat bed.Classical asymptotic expansion is used to obtain a Korteweg-de Vries(Kd V)equation,then a forth-order Runge-Kutta method is applied to get the approximate particle trajectories.On the other hand,our particular attention is paid to the direct numerical simulation(DNS)to the original Euler equations.A conformal map is used to solve the nonlinear boundary value problem.Highaccuracy numerical solutions are then obtained through the fast Fourier transform(FFT)and compared with the asymptotic solutions,which shows a good agreement when wave amplitude is small.Further,it also yields that there are different types of particle trajectories.Most surprisingly,periodic motion of particles could exist under solitary waves,which is due to the wave-current interaction.

Which Proof We Have against Continuous trajectories for Particles?

It is in general accepted that the concept of continuous trajectories for particles is at odds with the relativistic quantum mechanics. Namely, when examining the evolution of entangled quantum objects according to frames of coordinates in relative move-ment, one gets contradictory trajectories. Such a situation is typically derived from the famous “Hardy’s paradox”. However, it is argued here that if the rationale ignores the principle of quantum contextuality, as happens typically when using Hardy’s thought-experiment, the conclusion—rejection of the assumption of trajectories—is questionable. The issue is exemplified by an additional example: the 101 property of spin 1 bosons implies conflicting trajectories when the singlet state of two such bosons is examined according to frames in relative movement. It is concluded here that in the absence of a rationale which doesn’t violate the quantum contextuality, there are no sufficient arguments for refuting the possibility of a substructure of the quantum mechanics, consisting in particles following continuous trajectories.
