Changes in the sucrose metabolism of Cur-cuma longa *** were studied under treatment with different triazole compounds viz.,triadimefon(TDM)and propiconazole(PCZ).Plants were treated with TDM at 15mg/L and PCZ at 10mg/L separately by soil drenching on 80,110,and 140 days after planting(DAP).The plants were harvested randomly on 90,120,and 150DAP to determine the effect of both the triazoles on sucrose metabolizing enzymes and phenol *** sucrose metabolism was studied by analyzing sucrose metaboliz-ing enzymes like sucrose synthase and sucrose phosphate *** the analyses were assayed in leaves and tubers of both control and treated *** was found that both of the triazole compounds had profound effects on these parameters.

Objective:To quantify total phenols,flavonoids and to investigate the in vitro antioxidant power of Haplophyllum tuberculatum(***)leaves extracts of varying ***:The authenticated sample of ***(50 g)leaves was dried under shade,powdered and extracted exhaustively with ethanol by cold percolation *** alcoholic extract was further partitioned into petroleum ether,acetone,chloroform and methanol to obtain the fractions of varying polarities which were subjected to qualitative phytochemical *** phenolics and flavonoids content in the acetone,chloroform and methanol extracts were quantified by using standard colorimetric *** ether extract was omitted because it did not show the presence of either tannins or *** vitro antioxidant activity and total antioxidant capacity were determined by using 1,1 diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl radical and phosphomolybdenum *** acid was used as a reference antioxidant for comparison ***:Qualitative phytochemical results of leaves extracts confirmed the presence of major secondary plant *** extraction of phenolic compounds varied considerably according to the polarity of *** most polar fractions *** were observed to have the highest phenolic content(561.22 mg/g of gallic acid equivalent)and flavonoids(165.54 mg/g of quercetin equivalent).Although the free radical scavenging activity of leaves fractions was noted to be slightly lower than the reference compound,a direct relationship was observed between phenolic content and in vitro antioxidant *** the other hand,leaves fractions exhibited significant total antioxidant capacity as ascorbic acid ***:The aerial part of *** is rich in phenolic compounds which might play a vital role in the discovery of natural antioxidants.

Phytochemical and antioxidant properties of different solvent extracts of Kirkia wilmsii tubers

Objective:To determine suitable phytochemical extraction solvents,screen for phytochemicals,determine the total phenol and flavonoid contents and the antioxidant activities of different solvent extracts of Kirkia wilmsii(***),an ethnomedicine in South ***:Extractions were performed from dried tubers of the *** plant,using several solvents and varying extraction *** yields were determined and suitable extraction solvents were *** phenol and flavonoid contents of the extracts were determined spectrophotometrically using gallic acid and quercetin as *** free radical scavenging activity of the extracts was investigated using l,l-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl ***:Phytochemical screening confirmed the presence of phenolics,flavonoids,terpenoids,tannins,cardenolide deoxy sugars and reducing *** the 12 solvent extracts used,six gave yields higher than 5%,while the other six gave yields less than 1%.The highest extract yield of 52.9%was obtained using 80%methanol while the lowest yield of 7.3%was obtained using ethanol at 60 *** 80%methanol,methanol/chloroform/water(12:5:3)and 60%methanol extracts were significantly higher than those of ethanol,methanol and water(P total phenolic content recorded extracts ranged from(45.32 ± 0.50) to(122.84 ± 0.31) mg gallic acid equivalent per gram.A maximum total flavonoid content of(917.02 ± 0.10) mg quercetin equivalent per gram and a minimum of(206.26 ± 0.10) mg quercetin equivalent per gram were recorded for methanol and water,*** flavonoid content for methanol was significantly higher than all the other extracts(P < 0.05).The scavenging profiles of *** extracts were significantly lower(P < 0.05) than that of ascorbic acid and IC50 values ranged from 129.94 μg/mL for methanol to 225.04 μg/mL for *** IC50 value of 56.52μg/mL was obtained with ascorbic ***:Ethanol,methanol,methanol/chloroform/water,80%methanol,60%methanol

Impact of Some Agronomic Practices on Paddy Field Soil Health Under Varied Ecological Conditions: I. Influence of Soil Moisture

The effects of individual and combined additions of urea (100 μg N g-1 soil) and insecticide (triazophos at field rate, FR) under different moisture levels of air-dried soil (AD), 50% of water-holding capacity (WHC), 100% WHC and flooded soil (FS) on some selected soil properties in a paddy field soil were examined in a laboratory incubation study. The results indicated that after 21-day incubation at 25℃, the different moisture levels led to significant changes in the parameters studied. Flooding of soil with distilled water significantly increased the electron transport system (ETS) /dehydrogenase activity and phenol contents of the soil compared to the other moisture levels, while protein and phospholipids behaved differently at varied moisture levels with or without the addition of urea and/or triazophos. Increased ETS activity was observed with N addition at higher moisture levels while insecticide incorporation decreased it at all moisture levels as compared to the control (moisture only). The phenol contents slightly decreased and increased with N and insecticide applications, respectively. The soil protein contents were found to be unaffected among all the soil treatments at all moisture levels. However, among different moisture levels, reduced quantities of proteins were estimated at 50% WHC, suggesting more N-mineralization. Lower quantities of soil biomass phospholipids, among all treatments, were recorded at higher moisture levels (100% WHC and FS) than at the lower levels. An overall slight enhancement in phospholipid contents with N and small reduction with insecticide addition, respectively, was noticed against the untreated soil. The toxicity of fertilizer and insecticide decreased as the soil moisture contents increased, suggesting rapid degradation of agrochemicals.

Ultraviolet （UV） irradiation is proven to be an effective method to reduce aflatoxin in peanut oil, but the changes of peanut oil quality are not clear, especially in storage life. In this study, impacts of UV irradiation treatment on quality of peanut oil were investigated. Acid value, iodine value, oxidative stability and total phenol content that refer to rancidity and oxidation of oil were estimated under 365 nm UV irradiation processing and during different storage time. Results indicated that acid value was increased slightly under irradi-ation and in storage life while iodine value, total phenol content and oxidative stability de-clined weakly. Changes of these quality indexes were all within safe and acceptable levels. It can be confirmed by this study that UV irradiation is a safe strategy for AFB1 detoxification in peanut oil and not influence upon quality and stability of peanut oil.

This study presents an optimization of the Folin-Ciocalteu spectrophotometric method for the determination of total phenol content. Multivariate optimization using factorial planning 22 with a central point and central composite planning was constructed to evaluate the influence of variables in the process and maximize radiation absorption with minimal radiation scattering caused by solid formation. X-ray fluorescence and X-ray diffraction spectrometry were used to evaluate the chemical composition of solids formed and nephelometric and spectrophotometric studies were also used to evaluate whether the type, origin, dilution and dry extract contents of commercial propolis extracts would significantly influence the increase in radiation scattering and absorption. The optimized methodology added several advantages, such as reduction of reagents, time analysis, and higher accuracy.

Matricaria chamomilla is a valuable medicinal plant belonging to the Asteraceae *** medicinal and pharmaceutical impacts are correlated to major flavonoid compounds like *** this investigation,methanolic extracts of *** inflorescence gathered from six natural populations were evaluated for their phytochemical content and antioxidant *** content of total flavonoid and phenol modified from 3.72 to 7.94 mg g-1 DW and 1.37 to 3.51 mg g-1 DW,*** compositions revealed significant differences among six populations,and the highest apigenin(1.27%(w/w))and apigenin-7-glucoside(0.86%(w/w))contents were recognized in MD populations,*** PCA and Pearson’s correlation analyses revealed total phenol,flavonoid,apigenin and apigenin-7-glucoside were negatively correlated with the IC50 of DPPH activity and EC50 of reducing *** and precipitation indicated the positive and negative effects on phytochemical contents,*** results can provide a theoretical basis for getting the targeted antioxidant phytochemicals of *** for pharmaceutical and food industries,and also give a science for selection of the best population for cell culture and secondary metabolite production in future.

Extraction Storage and Qualitative Analysis of Free Radicals Scavenging Substances from Sweet Potato Leaves

[ Objective ] The research aimed to provide reference for the application of extracts from sweet potato leaves in anti-aging cosmetics. [ Method ] The extraction and storage conditions for free radicals scavenging substances from sweet potato leaves were optimized by orthogonal test and the bioactive components in extracts were investigated by correlation analysis. [ Result] Sweet potato leaves contain the bioactive substances scavenging DPPH free radical and hydroxyl free radical. Extracting solvent species is the most important factor that influencing extraction yield. The optimal extraction and storage conditions are as following： water as solvent, pH 8.0 of extracting liquid, storage at 25 ℃. There is a good positive linear relationship between the content of total phenols in sweet potato leaves and corresponding scavenging rates against both the DPPH free radical and hydroxyl free radical. For the content of total flavones in sweet potato leaves, just a correlation with scavenging rate against hydroxyl free radical shown in test. [ Conclusion] The phenols in ex- tracts could effectively scavenge both the DPPH free radical and hydroxyl free radical, whereas the flavones in extracts can only function on the hydroxyl free radical.
