Sounds Synthesis with Slime Mould of Physarum Polycephalum

This paper introduces a novel application of bionic engineering： a bionic musical instrument using Physarum polycephalum. Physarum polycephalum is a huge single cell with thousands of nuclei, which behaves like a giant amoeba. During its foraging behavior this plasmodium produces electrical activity corresponding to different physiological states. We developed a method to render sounds from such electrical activity and thus represent spatio-temporal behavior of slime mould in a form apprehended auditorily. The electrical activity is captured by various electrodes placed on a Petri dish containing the cultured slime mold. Sounds are synthesized by a bank of parallel sinusoidal oscillators connected to the electrodes. Each electrode is responsible for one partial of the spectrum of the resulting sound. The behavior of the slime mould can be controlled to produce different timbres.

Experimental Study &Heat Transfer Analysis on Copper Spiral Heat Exchanger Using Water Based SiO<sub>2</sub>Nanofluid as Coolant

Heat exchangers have its major application in automobile, air condition, refrigerator, power plants, and many others. Heat transfer characteristics and performance of Copper spiral heat exchanger are investigated and compared with pure water. Nanofluid can enhance thermos-physical properties. Experiment is carried out for water based SiO2 Nanofluid with 15 nm average sized nanoparticle at varying air velocity and mass flow rate of fluid to investigate its effect on heat transfer coefficient. From the experimental data, a closed form solution for Nusselt number has been calculated using ∈-NTU method. A new correlation has been proposed as a function of Reynolds number and Prandtl number. The heat transfer rate, effectiveness, has been significantly higher compared to pure water and with increasing volume fraction of nanoparticles.

Effect of Fabrication Process Parameters on Microstructure Evolution and Spectral Characteristics of Silicon Carbide Quantum Dots

Silicon carbide（SiC） quantum dots（QDs） in aqueous suspension were produced via corrosion in a mixture of chemical etchants（i.e.,HNO;and HF）,ultrasonic dispersion and *** microstructural evolution of rawβ-SiC particles during the etching process was *** porous structure of the β-SiC raw particles obtained due to the hydrofluoric-acid-induced dissociation of Si—O bonding and oxidation by nitric acid was *** hollow and grid-like structures formed in the corrosion process were broken due to the cavitation and crushing of ultrasonic treatment,forming *** homogeneous SiC-QDs in aqueous suspension were obtained in a *** of preparation parameters on the spectral characteristics of the SiC-QDs was *** results show that the maximum photo-luminescence（PL） intensity of the SiC-QDs can be obtained at excitation wavelengths of 340 *** PL intensity and emission wavelength are affected by the volume ratio of the mixture of chemical etchants and the duration of ultrasonic ***,the color of the fluorescence is related to the size of the SiC-QDs.
