Introduction:Previous studies have demonstrated significant changes in social contacts during the firstwave coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)in Chinese mainland.The purpose of this study was to quantify the time-varying contact patterns by age in Chinese mainland in 2020 and evaluate their impact on the transmission of severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2(SARS-CoV-2).Methods:Diary-based contact surveys were performed for four periods:baseline(prior to 2020),outbreak(February 2020),post-lockdown(March–May 2020),and post-epidemic(September–November 2020).We built a Susceptible-Infected-Recovered(SIR)model to evaluate the effect of reducing contacts on transmission.Results:During the post-epidemic period,daily contacts resumed to 26.7%,14.8%,46.8%,and 44.2%of the pre-COVID levels in Wuhan,Shanghai,Shenzhen,and Changsha,respectively.This suggests a moderate risk of resurgence in Changsha,Shenzhen,and Wuhan,and a low risk in Shanghai.School closure alone was not enough to interrupt transmission of SARS-CoV-2 Omicron BA.5,but with the addition of a 75%reduction of contacts at the workplace,it could lead to a 16.8%reduction of the attack rate.To control an outbreak,concerted strategies that target schools,workplaces,and community contacts are needed.Discussion:Monitoring contact patterns by age is key to quantifying the risk of COVID-19 outbreaks and evaluating the impact of intervention strategies.

For a long time,vaccination and herd immunity were considered to be the magic solution for controlling coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19).However,the emergence of new variants altered people’s expectations and prolonged the pandemic duration,especially the Omicron strain with substantially increased transmissibility and decreased vaccine efficacy.Therefore,we are in urgent need of a practical solution to resume regular life to some extent,while mitigating COVID-19 risks in the tight race between vaccine rollouts and virus variation.This commentary proposed that bubble strategy(or closed loop management),utilized in Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games and to be implemented in Beijing 2022 Winter Games,could serve as a novel technique of nonpharmaceutical interventions in coping with such a situation.

In December 2019,an outbreak of COVID-19 occurred in Wuhan City in Hubei Province of China.Neighboring Hunan Province launched a Level 1 public health emergency response on January 24,2020.Chenzhou City,located in the southernmost part of Hunan Province,bordering Guangdong Province and Jiangxi Province,has formed an agglomeration zone for processing trade and laborintensive industries.At the beginning of the outbreak,most businesses in this region suspended production,and they resumed production gradually after February 10,2020.

Traumatic brain injury(TBI)contributes to the key causative elements of neurological deficits.However,no effective therapeutics have been developed yet.In our previous work,extracellular vesicles(EVs)secreted by stem cells from human exfoliated deciduous teeth(SHED)offered new insights as potential strategies for functional recovery of TBI.The current study aims to elucidate the mechanism of action,providing novel therapeutic targets for future clinical interventions.With the mi RNA array performed and Real-time PCR validated,we revealed the crucial function of mi R-330-5p transferred by SHED-derived EVs(SHED-EVs)in regulating microglia,the critical immune modulator in central nervous system.Mi R-330-5p targeted Ehmt2 and mediated the transcription of CXCL14 to promote M2 microglia polarization and inhibit M1 polarization.Identified in our in vivo data,SHED-EVs and their effector mi R-330-5p alleviated the secretion of inflammatory cytokines and resumed the motor functional recovery of TBI rats.In summary,by transferring mi R-330-5p,SHED-EVs favored anti-inflammatory microglia polarization through Ehmt2 mediated CXCL14transcription in treating traumatic brain injury.
