Numerical analysis of synthetic granulate deposition in a physical model study

reservoirs and dams are two inseparable parts of water and hydropower projects, and reservoir management is the key to safe dam operation. In October 2006, the Three Gorges Project will witness the completion of Phase III – reservoir filling and power generation at El 165 m, and the reservoir will be operated to provide a larger water surface during construction. How to enable scientificalized, systemized, institutionalized and standardized reservoir management, develop the project into a environment-friendly one deserving the name, and achieve sustainable development of the reservoir as guided by the scientific development concept, will be an important subject greatly concerned by all. In the context of the Three Gorges Project, the main part of the reservoir is the management of reservoir resources on the basis of the “Program of Sustainable and Multipurpose Utilization of Three Gorges reservoir Resources” （referred to as the “Program” hereinafter）. As the Three Gorges reservoir （referred to as the “TGR” hereinafter） management involves a lot, there is a high degree of complexity and a large number of uncertainties. Especially, there is nearly no scientific research to support the elevation and range of ecological defenses, the mode of fishery development, the management and protection of drawdown areas, and the directional classification of water functions in the reservoir region involved in the Program, without available experience in the respect of policy measures, management mechanisms, and rules and regulations. Furthermore, reservoir management and eco-environmental changes, including remedy measures, have never been studied thoroughly and systematically. It is necessary to study the Program in the respect of problems in reservoir operation management by mobilizing scientific research resources from all sources, especially in the aspect of the trend of eco-environmental evolution and the protective utilization of resources upon creation of the reservoir, to

The current study focuses on the application of a three-dimensional numerical model for the prediction of morphological bed *** sediment deposition in a reservoir during a 10-year-fiood was investigated and the results of the simulation were validated with data derived from a physical model *** of the small grain sizes in the prototype,synthetic granulate was used in the physical *** numerical computation domain was a reproduction of the physical model,including the grain sizes and the density of the particles,in order to ensure *** CFD code SSIIM,which solves the RANS-equations in three-dimensions,was used for the *** sediment transport in SSIIM is divided into suspended sediment transport,computed by solving the convection-diffusion equation,and bed-load transport,calculated by an empirical *** results of the numerical simulation correspond well to the results of the physical model *** simulated location and the pattern of the sediment deposition in the reservoir are an accurate representation of the observed distribution in the physical model.

The objective of this study was to examine the impacts of climate and land use changes on wateravailability and sediment loads for a water supply reservoir in northern Morocco using data-intensive simulation models in a data-scarce region. Impacts were assessed by comparing the simulated water and sediment entering the reservoir between the future period 2031-2050 and the 1983-2010 reference period. Three scenarios of land use change and two scenarios of climate change were developed in the Tleta watershed. Simulations under current and future conditions were performed using the Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT) model. The simulations showed that climate change will lead to a sig-nificant decrease in the annual water supply to the reservoir (-16.9% and -27.5%) and in the annual volume of sediment entering the reservoir (-7.4% and -12.6%), depending on the climate change sce-narios tested. The three scenarios of land use change will lead to a moderate change in annual water inflow into the reservoir (between-6.7% and +6.2%), while causing a significant decrease in sediment entering the reservoir (-37%to-24%). The combined impacts of climate and land use changes will cause a reduction in annual water availability (-9.9%to-33.3%) and sediment supplies (-28.7%to-45.8%). As a result, the lifetime of the reservoir will be extended, but at the same time, the risk of water shortages will increase, especially from July to March. Therefore, alternative water resources must be considered.

Oil formation volume factor(OFVF)is considered one of the main parameters required to characterize the crude *** is needed in reservoir simulation and prediction of the oil reservoir *** correlations apply for specific oils and cannot be extended to other oil *** addition,big errors were obtained when we applied existing correlations to predict the *** is a massive need to have a global OFVF correlation that can be used for different oils with less *** objective of this paper is to develop a new empirical correlation for oil formation volume factor(OFVF)prediction using artificial intelligent techniques(AI)such as;artificial neural network(ANN),adaptive neuro-fuzzy inference system(ANFIS),and support vector machine(SVM).For the first time we changed the ANN model to a white box by extracting the weights and the biases from AI models and form a new empirical equation for OFVF *** this paper we present a new empirical correlation extracted from ANN based on 760 experimental data points for different oils with different *** results obtained showed that the ANN model yielded the highest correlation coefficient(0.997)and lowest average absolute error(less than 1%)for OFVF prediction as a function of the specific gravity of gas,the dissolved gas to oil ratio,the oil specific gravity,and the temperature of the reservoir compared with ANFIS and *** developed empirical equation from the ANN model outperformed the previous empirical correlations and AI models for OFVF *** can be used to predict the OFVF with a high accuracy.
