Mechanical cycling is one of the effective methods to rejuvenate metallic glasses(MGs)and improve their mechanical properties.The anelastic origin of the rejuvenation by mechanical cycling in a La_(30)Ce_(30)Ni_(10)Al_(20)Co_(10) MG was investigated via differential scanning calorimetry(DSC)and dynamic mechanical analysis(DMA).We demonstrate that mechanical cycling promotes the activation of flow defects with short relaxation times,leading to anelastic strains and therefore considerable energy storage,which manifests itself as larger relaxation enthalpy on the DSC curves of MGs.However,the MGs release the excess relaxation enthalpy caused by anelastic strain with time,thus suppressing atomic mobility and elevating β relaxation activation energies.The strategy of mechanical cycling at small strains,as demonstrated in the current work,can expand the energy states of MGs over a wide range of relaxation enthalpies.

The effects of cryogenic thermal cycling on deformation behaviour and structural variation of{[(Fe_(0.5)Co_(0.5))_(0.75)B_(0.2)Si_(0.05)]_(96)Nb_(4)}_(99.9)Cu_(0.1) bulk metallic glass(BMG)were studied and compared with Cufree[(Fe_(0.5)Co_(0.5))_(0.75)B_(0.2)Si_(0.05)]_(96)Nb_(4) BMG.After thermal-cycled treatment between 393 K and cryogenic temperature,the{[(Fe_(0.5)Co_(0.5))_(0.75)B_(0.2)Si_(0.05)]_(96)Nb_(4)}_(99.9)Cu_(0.1)BMG obtained a plastic strain of 7.4%combined with a high yield strength of 4350 MPa.The excellent soft magnetic properties were maintained after CTC treatment.The minor addition of Cu element results in an initial nano-sized heterogeneity in the matrix,which facilitates the rejuvenation process during thermal cycling,and brings to a low optimal thermal temperature of 393 K,making the{[(Fe_(0.5)Co_(0.5))_(0.75)B_(0.2)Si_(0.05)]_(96)Nb_(4)}_(99.9)Cu_(0.1) BMG more attractive in industrial application.During thermal cycling,the formation of more soft regions leads to the increase of structural heterogeneities,which is beneficial to the initiation of shear transition zones and the formation of multiple shear bands,and thus results in the enhancement of plasticity.This study links the subtle variation of specific structure with macroscopic mechanical properties,and provides a new insight of composition selection for cryogenic thermal cycling treatment.

Ontogenetic aging of tissues and the gradual decrease of adventitious rooting are known challenges for the clonal propagation of woody species,hampering clonal forestry programs.This study examined possible signatures of tissue rejuvenation/reinvigoration in different propagated materials of Eucalyptus microcorys by analyzing the total protein profile,peroxidase activity,macro-and micronutrient contents,and adventitious rooting of mini cuttings.The analyses were performed on E.microcorys shoots which were successfully obtained by seminal and grafting propagation,micropropagation with epicormic shoots,and indirect organogenesis.Among four mature trees used in the propagation,tissues from the one with the best propagation results were investigated for signs of tissue rejuvenation and/or reinvigoration.Five individuals from each technique were randomly selected and transferred to a semi-hydroponic"channel"system.After four weeks in the seedbed,the total protein,peroxidase activity,nutrient content and rooting of the mini cuttings were evaluated.SDS-PAGE enabled the differentiation of leaf samples obtained by grafting from the other propagation techniques,as revealed by two distinct bands.Materials obtained by micropropagation with epicormic shoots showed the highest peroxidase activity,while those obtained by seminal propagation and from the selected mature tree showed the lowest peroxidase activity.A portable X-ray fluorescence spectroscope(pXRF)identified adequate nutrient content in most of the nutrients tested in materials obtained by seminal and grafting propagation,and by indirect organogenesis.The analysis of adventitious rooting showed that the highest rooting percentage was observed in mini cuttings from seminal propagation(75%)followed by indirect organogenesis(35%).Based on principal component analysis,it was concluded that rooting of mini cuttings from both seminal propagation and indirect organogenesis was associated with phosphorous,sulphur,and potassium contents,which suggests a higher level of tissue

BACKGROUND As one of the most common aesthetic surgical procedures carried out today,blepharoplasty should be in the repertoire of every plastic surgeon.The term blepharoplasty encompasses a wide range of techniques and options that must be tailored to the specific defect and patient one has to treat.A sound knowledge of the upper and lower eyelids’anatomy is essential for proper surgical execution.Trends have shifted towards more conservative methods(especially of the fat compartment)and sometimes in combination with augmentation techniques,helping to reach a rejuvenated appearance.AIM To present an overview of the surgical techniques considered for upper lid blepharoplasty and fat pad management,in addition to information on how a surgeon may approach the best treatment for his patient based on current publications in literature.METHODS We searched the literature published between 2013,to 2023 using Medline and Reference Citation Analysis.The database was searched using the keywords“upper blepharoplasty”AND“fat”.Papers without full text/abstracts and reviews were excluded.The search strategy followed the PRISMA.The American Society of Plastic Surgeons guidelines for Therapeutic Studies checklist was used to assess all articles.Two authors individually reviewed each article and rated them for importance and relevance to the topic.A consensus was sought and the most relevant studies.RESULTS After the application of the selection criteria used in our review,13 publications were found to address upper lid blepharoplasty specifically.Three of these studies were reviews and three were retrospective studies.Five publications were comparative studies and a further two were clinical trials.CONCLUSION The tendency of modern surgery is to be conservative,by removing adipose tissue only if strictly necessary and restoring the volume of the upper eyelid in a concept of beauty that espouses a"full"sight.There is no gold standard technique to achieve younger and enhanced eyelids.Long-term prospective comparative studies are f

Objective:To provide an overview of the various treatment options available in the clinic to achieve periorbital rejuvenation.Data Sources:Literature review and expert opinion.Conclusions:Periorbital rejuvenation in the clinic can be accomplished through a variety of treatment modalities,including topical therapies,skin resurfacing,and fillers and injectables.Furthermore,some surgical approaches,such as upper blepharoplasties,ptosis,and brow lifts,can be performed in the clinic under local anesthesia with only mild oral sedation.However,the successful execution of such procedures depends on proper patient selection and maximizing patient comfort.

Waste cooking oil(WCO)has received attention on rejuvenating aged asphalt binder widely in recent years.This study evaluated the rejuvenation effects of WCO on aged asphalt binder on the micro-scale using molecular dynamics(MD)simulation.First,the representative molecules of WCO and asphalt binders were selected.The molecular mixture model was then developed.The thermodynamic properties were investigated,including density,cohesive energy density,solubility parameter,and surface free energy.The results show that WCO can restore the thermodynamic properties of aged asphalt binder to some extent and WCO has different influences on electrostatic interactions and van der Waals effects.From the diffusion behavior and molecular structure of asphalt binder,WCO can improve the molecular mobility and restore the colloidal structure.Besides,the adhesion work and moisture susceptibility of asphalt binder-aggregate interfaces(calcite and quartz)were evaluated.The results show that WCO can improve adhesion work between asphalt binder and aggregates since WCO can change molecular structure of asphalt binders and certain adhesion work exists between WCO and aggregates.Also,it can mitigate the moisture susceptibility of asphalt binder-aggregate interfaces(calcite and quartz).The study demonstrates that the MD simulation can help to understand the rejuvenation effects of WCO on aged asphalt binder on the micro-scale.

High-temperature deformation has been demonstrated as an effective measure to rejuvenate and optimize the mechanical properties of metallic glasses(MGs).Clarifying the competition between aging and rejuvenation during high-temperature deformation is helpful in rejuvenating MGs accurately.Signatures of aging and rejuvenation in a La_(30)Ce_(30)Ni_(10)Al_(20)Co_(10)MG were investigated via high-temperature deformation and mechanical relaxation.The coupling of thermal history,aging,and mechanical disordering determines the transient deformation and the structural state of MGs.The stress overshoot and anelastic deformation induce structural rejuvenation,increasing the concentration of defects and erasing thermal history.Therefore,the eventually steady-state condition is dependent on ambient temperature and strain rate instead of the initial structure.Furthermore,the one-to-one relationship between defect concentration and strain rate clarifies the structural nature of rejuvenation in amorphous materials.Such a relationship also contributes toward a comprehensive understanding of the structural rejuvenation behavior in amorphous materials.

Background: While sunscreen has been accepted as a mainline defence against photodamage from ultraviolet, visible light and near-infrared radiation, there appears to be a lack of research into photorepair. The concept of protecting the skin during the day and repairing cellular damage at night is intuitive, yet specific strategies revolving around combinations of proven reparative active ingredients remain unelucidated. Purpose: To investigate the efficacy of a solar repair Formulation following ultraviolet and environmental exposure in order to improve overall skin health and appearance through three hypotheses: The Formulation increases expression of DNA repair mechanisms markers;The Formulation enhances overall skin appearance through reducing signs of inflammation, elevating hydration, reinforcing skin firmness and amplifying radiance;In-Vivo efficacy test results are aligned with measured gene expression changes. Methods: The Formulation (#6NIC1.V1.1-1) was tested for: In-vitro LDH cytotoxicity activity, In-vitro qPCR gene expression with and without ultraviolet exposure on a reconstructed 3-dimensional skin model, and In-Vivo efficacy study on a panel of 22 participants objectively and subjectively. Results: Skin radiance, firmness, hydration, redness, and inflammation are significantly improved after In-Vivo skin exposure to the Formulation and environmental challenges such as ultraviolet radiation. These outcomes were confirmed by in-vitro genetic testing on a reconstructed human skin model. Conclusion: The studies allowed us to identify and group results in four main skin functions that were significantly enhanced following the application of the Formulation: firmness, hydration, radiance and soothing.

This intervention examines the extant literature on historical imaginaries and historic urban branding in China.It suggests that while research in this field has increasingly moved away from an economic(or an implicit neo-Marxist)model,there is still a lack of research on the role of broader cultural and state led discourses of nationalism in the construction of historic urban imaginaries and historic urban branding within Chinese cities.In unpacking one nationalistic discourse a-narrative of rejuvenation-this article argues that more needs to be done to examine the role of these themes in the construction of historical imaginaries at the level of the local state(including related state networks of developers,retailers,tourist officials,town planners,architects,and designers).It is suggested that an analysis of these discourses and imaginaries is important if we are:1)to appreciate the role of these themes in the construction and/or the reconfiguration of existing or emerging historic brands within Chinese cities;2)to comprehend the construction of'authorised heritage discourses,(AHDs)practices and materialities at the level of the local state;3)to understand the politics of the past(including the uses of history,memory,nostalgia,and heritage)at the level of the local state;4)to be aware of the way in which these themes inform the preservation,conservation,and/or the demolition of heritage space at the level of the local state;5)to recognise the manufacture of'heritage'or simulacrascapes within Chinese cities.
