This article aims to understand the training process of history undergraduates,to see if there are decolonial curricular practices to combat racism at the Centro Universitário e Faculdade Projeção(UniProjeção)in the Federal District,to understand how coloniality has corroborated the exclusion of different epistemologies and the erasure of different cultures,and how this exclusionary process of coloniality interferes in the training of history teachers.In order to combat this practice,we are looking for alternatives that can break these suppressions carried out by Europeans.In this way,we turn to decolonial ideas that aim to break with the logic of coloniality.We can conclude that these practices are poorly developed in the institution,so we proposed active problem-based methodology and music as a didactic resource.As playful educational tools that strengthen the teaching-learning process,they are active agents in the decolonial work of combating racism,and it is essential to train responsible and ethical teachers in the fight against racism and any form of oppression.

The COVID-19 Pandemic: A Double Threat to Chinese Americans’ Mental Health

Objective:To explore the double psychosocial threats of the COVID-19 pandemic,targeted behavior toward Chinese Americans,and the correlates to their mental health.Methods:A quantitative,cross-sectional,and descriptive design was utilized by using a purposive convenience sample of 301 Chinese Americans over the age of 18 residing in the United States.Online data collection was conducted through the social media platform WeChat from April 8–21,2021.Descriptive statistical analysis was used for the participants’demographic charac-teristics,Multidimensional Scale of Perceived Social Support(MSPSS),Double Threat Situations,COVID-19 Racial Discrimination,and General Anxiety Disorder-7(GAD-7).Stepwise logistic regression was conducted to verify predictors for anxiety levels by GAD-7.Results:In this sample(N=301),127(42.19%)were male and 174(57.81%)were female.The average age was 41.67(SD=5.89).Among MSPSS subscales,social support from family(MSPSS-Fam,79.73%,n=240)and social support from significant others(MSPSS-SO,73.75%,n=222)were high.231(76.74%)reported threats due to their Chinese ethnic background during the COVID-19 outbreak.Predictors for the high anxiety level by GAD-7 were COVID-19 racial discrimination from the local community(OR=0.47,95%CI=0.39–0.71,pracism threat from Chinese back-ground related to COVID-19(OR=0.31,95%CI=0.21–0.49,pracism double-threatened situations and high mental health risks,as well as direct and indirect ethnic discrimination that Chines

This study aims to understand equity issues of international students’learning in Korean higher education institutions by engaging with the issue of racism and identifies how international students in Korea reshape their learning trajectory and how we could provide equitable and quality education for international students.Espousing a qualitative case study design,six students from different background were interviewed to examine features of perceived institutional racism based on their learning experience in Korea.Major findings showed that internationalization has not been fulfilled in terms of engaging with international students although Korean government and higher education institutions have developed relevant policy to attract international students.This study indicates that Korean universities need to reconstruct their social,cultural,and institutional systems to embrace equity,diversity and inclusiveness to empower international students’capacity.

Looking back on the U.S.epidemic situation the past two and a half years.The Trump administration’s previous policy of"non-resistance to the novel coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)"resulted in the loss of control of the COVID-19(coronavirus disease 2019)epidemic,rising deaths,and economic shrinking.Behaviors such as racism and xenophobia against Asian descent have become increasingly apparent in the United States and globally.When people are struggling to cope with the raging epidemic of the COVID-19 epidemic and are eager to return to normal life and work as soon as possible,the recognition of human universal values and mutual respect among various races are particularly important.racism and xenophobia have caused a series of inequalities.The COVID-19 epidemic pandemic requires special attention and vigilance.On February 12,2021,the new U.S.President Biden,in his video congratulating the traditional Chinese New Year,addressed racism,harassment and hatred.U.S.President Joe Biden said,"This is completely wrong.Everyone,regardless of their race.Whatever the language,background,religion,or language they speak,they all deserve equal treatment and due dignity."It is hoped that the new US President(Joseph Robinette Biden)can eliminate the"white supremacy"racism and promote equality and harmony among all races.This paper analyzes the historical roots of racial discrimination in the United States,especially the suffering of Chinese Americans.

Joseph Conrad'classic novella Heart of Darkness has been the object of a controversy,and harsh condemnations were formulated against the work.Notably,it was targeted as an example of colonialist as well as racist prejudice and prominent author like Achebe and influential theorists like Eagleton and Said have launched far reaching criticisms again this work long considered as part of modern literary canon.This paper argues that these criticisms failed to demonstrate their relevance as literary analysis and ignored crucial features of the novella as a work of art.If we put the story in the context of its creation and read the text in the way as Conrad intended much of the accusations would appear superficial and wide of the mark.Moreover,it is argued that literary figures should be judged by themselves for their aesthetic values as literary creation and not as prototypes of some social category.The specificity of a literary work lies in the fact that it is fundamentally different from political and sociological discourse.

The seminar on Addressing Contemporary Forms of racism:Challenges Posed by the Pandemic and the National Responses",guided by the China Society for Human Rights Studies and co-hosted by the Center for Human Rights Studies of Central South University,Cross Cultural Human Rights Centre-Vrije University Amsterdam and China Top Think Tank-Wuhan University Institute of International Law,was held on July 3rd,2020.Nearly 20 experts and scholars in the field of human rights from China,the United States,the Netherlands,Germany,South Africa and other countries,as well as the United Nations attended the seminar The seminar focused on addressing contemporary forms of racism,the challenges posed by COVID-19 and the national responses,which has important theoretical significance and practical value for eliminating racism worldwide,constructing a global community of health for all and achieving the common development of mankind.

Although slavery was abolished in the 1860s,its influence still continued and the blacks were not readily assimilated into the large American culture.Most of them remain in the South,where they were legally segregated from whites.This paper takes the Hollywood movie The Help as an example,and describes racism embodied in the movie and analyzes the root of racism.It is hoped that this paper will help readers to have a better understanding of racism in the United States.

The South African higher education system is one of the most diverse systems in Africa with a high percentage of international students.Yet,there are many factors that create discrimination against these individuals and those who would aspire to further their education in South Africa.The diversity found within universities creates an environment where all different opinions can be heard which allows for vibrant discussion among classmates and professors alike.Unfortunately,this lack of representation also has its downsides as some schools do not have enough resources or staff members dedicated specifically to foreign student needs leaving them feeling marginalized on campus.This research contributes to the theoretical understanding of factors affecting the discrimination of international students in South Africa.It also improves our empirical knowledge of two major factors:lack of familiarity with backgrounds outside one’s own culture or country as well as religious differences within communities which may lead to biases based on religion rather than other qualities such as appearance or language fluency;but it remains unclear if these disparities exist due to prejudices held by individuals at school for reasons unrelated to racism(though cultural difference already increases exclusion).

Mark Twain’s distaste for anti-Semitism was well-known.He had published a searing exposéof anti-Semitism in the Austro-Hungarian empire.He had minced no words denouncing pogroms in Russia and had been a featured speaker at a benefit for Russian Jews.He had condemned French anti-Semitism in the Dreyfus Affair on numerous occasions.In a widelyread essay called“Concerning the Jews”he had provided his own analysis of the roots of antiSemitism.And when his daughter decided to marry a Russian Jewish pianist and conductor,Twain warmly welcomed the son-in-law into the family.So how can it be that some of Twain’s comments from“Concerning the Jews”regularly get quoted with approval today on white supremacist,neoNazi,and other anti-Semitic websites and blogs?This essay draws on Mark Twain’s writings and biography;on nineteenth-and early twentieth-century social,cultural,and political history;and on scholarship on the history of anti-Semitism and racism to explore some answers to this question.It endeavors to complicate our understanding of Mark Twain’s attitudes—his astute insights and his embarrassing blind spots,his lucidity on the one hand,and his myopia on the other.

Racial discrimination remains a prevalent issue in the contemporary U.S.despite efforts to promote equality.Many young African American and Hispanic males are easy target for law enforcement agents.Minorities experience a higher and more unfair form of racial discrimination,racial profiling,police brutality,unfair sentencing,and mass incarceration for offences which are the same or less than those committed by White males.The rate of incarceration in the United States is five to eight times higher than most developed countries,and Black males constitute the largest percentage of inmates in the U.S.prison system.Once arrested,Black Americans are more likely to remain in prison longer,and await trial for minor offenses at a higher rate than Whites.Black and Latino males sentenced in state and federal courts face significantly greater odds of incarceration than White offenders for the same or even higher crimes.Vagins and McCurdy in a 2006 ACLU on“cracks in the system”reported that“There is no rational medical or penological reason for the 100:1 disparity between crack and powder cocaine and instead it causes an unjustified racial disparity in our penal system”(p.7).There is a racial disparity in the proportion of Black males in prison serving sentences of life without the possibility of parole(LWOP).In addition,The United States Criminal Justice System needs to be carefully examined as a top priority agenda needing immediate call of action that needs reform to guarantee the constitutional rights accorded to every American“with liberty and justice for all”.
