Effect of dietary magnolia bark extract supplementation in finishing pigs on the oxidative stability of meat

The performance of high-yielding sows is directly related to the productivity of pig farming. Fetaldevelopment mainly occurs during the last month of pregnancy, and the aggressive metabolic burden ofsows during this stage eventually leads to systemic oxidative stress. When affected by oxidative stress,sows exhibit adverse symptoms such as reduced feed intake, hindered fetal development, and evenabortion. In addition, milk synthesis during the lactation period causes a severe metabolic burden. Thebiological response to oxidative stress during this period is associated with a decrease in milk production,which further affects the growth of piglets. Understanding the nutritional strategies to alleviateoxidative stress in sows is crucial to maintain their reproduction and lactation performance. Recently,advances have been made in the field of nutrition to relieve oxidative stress in sows during late pregnancyand lactation. This review highlights the nutritional strategies to relieve oxidative stress in sowsreported within the last 20 years.

Potential of a mixture of eugenol and garlic tincture to improve performance and intestinal health in broilers under necrotic enteritis challenge

plant extracts(PE)are gaining increased attention as potential alternatives to in-feed antimicrobials(AM)due to their known antimicrobial *** study was conducted to examine the potential of PE,a microencapsulated product composed of eugenol and garlic tincture as an alternative to AM-agent on performance and intestinal health in broilers under necrotic enteritis(NE)challenge.A total of 960 dayold mixed-sex Cobb 500 chicks were randomly distributed to 48-floor pens with 6 treatments replicated 8 times with 20 birds *** 6 treatments were as follows:UC,unchallenged control;CC,challenged control;PE,challenged group plus PE;AM,challenged group plus AM;FAP,challenged group plus a full dose of AM with PE;HAP,challenged group plus a half dose of AM with PE in starter,grower and finisher *** in the challenged groups were inoculated with Eimeria *** d 9 and Clostridium perfringens on d *** body weight gain(BWG),feed intake(FI),feed conversion ratio(FCR),and livability of birds were compromised,and intestinal lesions and mortality were increased(P<0.05)by NE challenge,illustrating a successful clinical NE *** fed AM had higher BWG and FI,and lower FCR,mortality,and intestinal lesions compared to the CC group(P<0.05).Birds fed PE had improved FCR(P<0.05)and livability(5.8%)in an overall period compared to the CC *** d 16,PE supplementation reduced ileal lesion scores in only male birds(P<0.05).Birds fed PE had decreased Eimeria maxima and Eimeria acervulina oocyst counts in caecal content(P<0.05).Birds fed PE had decreased Eimeria brunetti and total oocyst counts in caecal content,and *** oocyst counts in ileal content in only female birds(P<0.05).On d 35,PE supplementation reduced variation of BW in both male and female birds and increased yellowness(b*value,14.4%)in the *** findings suggest the potential of PE supplementation in diets to improve the performance and intestinal health of birds under clinical NE a

Comparative phytochemical,thin layer chromatographic profiling and antioxidant activity of extracts from some Indian herbal drugs

Natural antioxidants play a significant role to prevent cell breaking and regenerate *** plants native to India named dwarf morning-glory(Evolvulus alsinoides),Indian banyan(Ficus bengalensis)and chicory(Chicorium intybus)are used as medicine in India traditionally to treat *** aim of this study is to evaluate and compare the antioxidant activity as well as to compare phytochemical profiles of the aqueous extracts of the selected three *** dried plant powder was extracted with ethanol individually by using the Soxhlet method for eight hours and the solvent was evaporated under reduced ***,the air-dried powder was ex-tracted with water,and the water was *** thin layer chromatography(TLC)profile of the extracts was determined by using TLC densitometer and the antioxidant activity was deter-mined by the conventional 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)*** TLC profile shows that there are no similarities of retention factor(R f)values among the plant extracts which means all three plants contain different chemical *** antioxidant activities of the aqueous extracts at different concentrations show different antioxidant *** inhibition is dose dependent,as doses are increasing then percentage inhibition is also increasing for all three plant *** the selected plants,the highest activity was found in *** and the lowest was in *** order of the antioxidant activity among the selected plants was ***plant species was evaluated.

Moringa oleifera is a miracle plant rich in nutrients,antioxidants,and antibiotic *** study was designed to evaluate various biochemical attributes of leaves and flowers of *** parts(leaves,flowers)of ***,collected from different roadsides of Multan district,Punjab,Pakistan,were used as experimental *** indicates that alkaloids,saponin,carbohydrates,fats,and protein had a high value in the aqueous extract of both leaves and flowers of *** phenol content was high in methanolic leaves extract and the phenol contents were high in aqueous extract of *** extract yield of *** leaves and flowers both showed a higher percentage in aqueous extract(57.5%),followed by methanol extract and lowest in ethyl acetate *** contents were higher in ethyl acetate extract of leaves(33.67%)and aqueous extract of flowers(53.71%).While crude fiber was high in methanolic extract of leaves(12.40%)and in flowers crude fiber was high in ethyl acetate extract(15.86%).The moisture contents were higher in leaves(8.87%)than flowers(7.3%)and similarly,ash percentage in flowers(52.60%)than leaves(41.84%).Ethyl acetate extracts of *** leaves show antibacterial activity against Pseudomonas aeruginosa while methanolic extract of *** flowers shows antibacterial activity against Xanthomonas *** growth inhibits show in all extracts of leaves against Aspergillus flavus,***,and *** except for the concentrated aqueous extract of *** in flowers maximum growth inhibits all extracts against ***,***,and *** except the diluted ethyl acetate *** present in different parts of moringa have significant edible and commercial *** extracts exhibited significant antimicrobial activity,therefore have applications in pharmaceuticals.

In this work,polymeric and bioactive glass(BG)-modified composite films were successfully loaded with polyphenols(PPh)extracted from *** was hypothesized that PPh,alone and in combination with BGs particles,would affect physicochemical and biological properties of the ***,sol-gel-derived BG particles would serve as an agent for control the release of the polyphenolic compounds,and other important properties related to the presence of *** results showed that polyphenolic compounds significantly modified numerous material properties and also acted as biologically active *** the one hand,PPh can be considered as plasticizers for PCL,on the other hand,they can act as coupling agent in composite materials,improving their mechanical *** presence of PPh in materials improved their hydrophilicity and apatite-forming ability,and also provided antioxidant *** is important is that the aforementioned properties and kinetics of PPh release can be modulated by the use of various concentrations of PPh,and by the modification of PCL matrix with sol-gel-derived BG particles,capable of binding *** films containing the lowest concentration of PPh exhibited cytocompatibility,significantly increased alkaline phosphatase activity and the expression of bone extracellular matrix proteins(osteocalcin and osteopontin)in human normal osteoblasts,while they reduced intracellular reactive oxygen species production in ***,materials loaded with PPh showed antibiofilm properties against Gram positive and Gram negative *** results suggest that obtained materials represent potential multifunctional biomaterials for bone tissue engineering with a wide range of tunable properties.

Combined impacts of various plant derivative extracts and lactic acid bacteria on yeasts to develop a nutritional bar with antifungal properties

This study examines the effects of various plant derivative extracts and lactic acid bacteria on yeasts in an attempt to create a prototype of a nutritional bar with antifungal *** was done in a series of steps by first determining antifungal activity,then developing a food prototype,and finally testing the efficacy of the prototype in *** best antifungal activity from plant extracts was noticed in 10%aqueous,and ethanol extracts of garlic(22–34 mm and 16–24 mm inhibition zones respectively),as well as in 10%aqueous and ethanol extracts of goldenseal(16–20 mm inhibition zones for both extracts),and 5%aqueous and ethanol extracts of cinnamon(18–24 mm inhibition zones for both extracts).Lactobacillus plantarum MI-LPI had the widest range of inhibitory effect on pathogenic and spoilage yeasts–it was effective against 10 from 12 strains of yeasts and it was chosen for the development of the nutritional *** did not decrease significantly during the storage period of 90 days,and>10^(9) CFU/cm^(3) of *** remained until the end of the *** vivo experiments showed that mice fed with nutritional bars with *** and *** had 20 times lower counts of ***,compared to mice that were fed nutritional bars with *** *** of inflammation were also reduced in both small intestine and colon of mice when fed a nutritional bar with lactic acid bacteria.

In Vitro Antioxidant and Cytotoxic Activities of 18 plants from the Erkowit Region,Eastern Sudan

We investigated the antioxidant potential and cytotoxicity towards human CCRF-CEM leukemia cells of 57 extracts obtained from 18 plants collected in the Erkowit region,eastern *** antioxidant activity was determined by measuring the radical scavenging effects against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH)and N,N-dimethyl-p-phenylendi-amine(DMPD),metal-chelation capacity,ferric-reducing(FRAP)and phosphomolibdenum-reducing antioxidant power(PRAP)methods using ELISA microtiter *** phenol and flavonoid amounts of the extracts were determined *** towards CCRF-CEM cells was evaluated by the resazurin reduction *** favosum followed by Kalanchoe glaucescens,Malva parviflora,Aizoon canariense,and Coleus barbatus,respectively,possessed the highest antioxidant activity among the studied *** oblongifolia and *** exerted considerable cytotoxicity against CCRF-CEM leukemia *** plants may serve as source for the further development of natural antioxidant and antitumor agents.
