Patient-specific ventricular puncture trajectory plane and puncture trajectory: a novel method of frontal ventricular puncture

Ventricular puncture is a common neurosurgical procedure,which is usually performed freehand using body surface anatomic landmarks as targeting references.[1,2]However,it is reported that the failure rate of freehand lateral ventricle puncture could be as high as 43%in traumatic brain injury cases if body surface anatomic landmarks are used as targeting references,[3]and the occurrence of hemorrhages associated with ventricular puncture could reach 16.2%.[4]Classic puncture sites,such as Kocher point,are helpful in improving the success rate of ventricular puncture.However,it is still risky to perform freehand puncture with classic puncture sites.Several causes could lead to this issue,including the following:(1)Individual patients have different conditions;a puncture approach suitable for all patients might not be possible.(2)Selection of puncture approach is largely dependent on the judgment of the surgeon,because the puncture approach does not usually fall on the coronal,sagittal,or axial images of the regular computed tomography(CT)scan;surgeons need to use spatial imagination based on CT images to design the ventricular puncture trajectory(VPT),which could lead to errors.(3)In freehand puncture,directional deviations could occur easily without the guidance of a frame as a fixed space reference to the puncture path.

The aim of this paper is to study the effects of rotation and magnetic field on the plane vibrations in a transversely isotropic material of an infinite hollow cylinder.The natural frequency of the plane vibrations in the case of harmonic vibrations has been obtained.The natural frequencies are calculated numerically and the effects of rotation and magnetic field are discussed.The numerical results obtained have been illustrated graphically to understand the behavior of frequency equation with different values of frequencyωunder effects the rotation and magnetic field.Comparison was made with the results obtained in the presence and absence of the rotation and magnetic field.The results indicate that the effect of rotation and magnetic field are very pronounced.

A general metrology of stress on crystalline silicon with random crystal plane by using micro-Raman spectroscopy

The requirement of stress analysis and measurement is increasing with the great development of heterogeneous structures and strain engineering in the field of semiconductors.Micro-Raman spectroscopy is an effective method for the measurement of intrinsic stress in semiconductor structures.However,most existing applications of Raman-stress measurement use the classical model established on the (001) crystal plane.A non-negligible error may be introduced when the Raman data are detected on surfaces/cross-sections of different crystal planes.Owing to crystal symmetry,the mechanical,physical and optical parameters of different crystal planes show obvious anisotropy,leading to the Raman-mechanical relationship dissimilarity on the different crystal planes.In this work,a general model of stress measurement on crystalline silicon with an arbitrary crystal plane was presented based on the elastic mechanics,the lattice dynamics and the Raman selection rule.The wavenumberstress factor that is determined by the proposed method is suitable for the measured crystal plane.Detailed examples for some specific crystal planes were provided and the theoretical results were verified by experiments.

Numerical study on turbulent mixed convection in a vertical plane channel using hybrid RANS/LES and LES models

Two Delayed-Detached Eddy Simulation(DDES) models, and a Large-Eddy Simulation(LES) model are used to investigate the turbulent flows and mixed convection between a hot plate and a cold plate via the software FLUENT. The two DDES models include Production-limited DDES(PL-DDES) and Improved DDES(IDDES) models.The Wall-Adapting Local Eddy-Viscosity(WALE) model is the used LES model. The numerical computations are performed at Reynolds number Reb= 4494 and different Richardson numbers Ri = 0.025, 0.048, 0.1. The comparing data is from the Direct Numerical Simulation(DNS) at Reb= 4494 and Ri = 0.048. The comparison reveals that the two DDES models have better performance in predicting time-averaged parameters than the WALE model in the aiding flow. The best predicted time-averaged results are obtained by the PL-DDES model in the opposing flow. Furthermore, the results of different Ri obtained by the PL-DDES model agree well with the DNS data.

On the Topology and Isotopic Meshing of plane Algebraic Curves

This paper presents a symbolic algorithm to compute the topology of a plane curve.This is a full version of the authors’CASC15 paper.The algorithm mainly involves resultant computations and real root isolation for univariate polynomials.Compared to other symbolic methods based on elimination techniques,the novelty of the proposed method is that the authors use a technique of interval polynomials to solve the system f(α,y),?f/?y(α,y)and simultaneously obtain numerous simple roots of f(α,y)=0 on theαfiber.This significantly improves the efficiency of the lifting step because the authors are no longer required to compute the simple roots of f(α,y)=0.After the topology is computed,a revised Newton’s method is presented to compute an isotopic meshing of the plane algebraic curve.Though the approximation method is numerical,the authors can ensure that the proposed method is a certified one,and the meshing is topologically correct.Several nontrivial examples confirm that the proposed algorithm performs well.

Comparative study of AC and DC inclined plane tests on silicone rubber(SiR)insulation

Currently there are no international standards for evaluating the tracking and erosion resistance of DC polymeric insulation under contaminated conditions.Researchers often modify the existing AC inclined plane test standards such as the IEC-60587 to accommodate DC voltage conditions but this has been reported to give various inconsistences.This paper presents comprehensive experimental results on inclined plane tests of silicone rubber(SiR)insulation at 3.5 and 4.5 kV AC and positive DC using intravenous(IV)system as the pollutant supply.The leakage currents(LC)were recorded throughout the entire tests.In addition,various physiochemical tests namely,Fourier Transform Infrared analysis,thermo-gravimetric analysis,scanning electron microscopy and energy dispersive spectroscopy were performed on the aged and unaged samples.Results show that DC LC is bigger(about three times)than that under AC for the same equivalent voltages.Furthermore,DC LC variations are less random and the average magnitudes increase with duration of voltage application compared with AC.The physiochemical analyses show that 3.5 kV_(rms) AC and 3.5 kV DC aged samples have comparable chemical characteristics albeit with electrode corrosion elements detected on the DC aged samples.Under 4.5 kV DC the degradation becomes significantly more severe and unrepeatable.It is therefore concluded that at 0.3 ml/min,pollutant flow rate,3.5 kV positive DC and 3.5 kV_(rms) AC are comparable as test voltages for inclined plane accelerated ageing of SiR insulation.

Memristor initial-boosted coexisting plane bifurcations and its extreme multi-stability reconstitution in two-memristor-based dynamical system

Initial-dependent extreme multi-stability and offset-boosted coexisting attractors have been significantly concerned recently.This paper constructs a novel five-dimensional(5-D)two-memristor-based dynamical system by introducing two memristors with cosine memductance into a three-dimensional(3-D)linear autonomous dissipative system.Through theoretical analyses and numerical plots,the memristor initial-boosted coexisting plane bifurcations are found and the memristor initial-dependent extreme multi-stability is revealed in such a two-memristor-based dynamical system with plane equilibrium.Furthermore,a dimensionality reduction model with the determined equilibrium is established via an integral transformation method,upon which the memristor initial-dependent extreme multi-stability is reconstituted theoretically and expounded numerically.Finally,physically circuit-implemented PSIM(power simulation)simulations are carried out to validate the plane offset-boosted coexisting behaviors.

Role of Dipole Jet in Inclined Stroke plane Kinematics of Insect Flight

The two-dimensional(2D)inclined stroke plane kinematics of insect wing is studied for various stroke plane angles using the Immersed Boundary(IB)solver.The numerical results revealed the dominant lift enhancement mechanisms for this class of flows.The generated dipole was analyzed to find the maximum velocity,inclination and spread.The analysis of these dipole characteristics for the different stroke plane angles exposed the alternate method to study the vertical force variation with the stroke plane angles.Lift enhancement mechanisms and dipole characteristics complement the high vertical force coefficient for the stroke plane angle of 60?commonly used by dragonflies during hover.The location of the dipole identified a region of influence around the wing and demonstrated the role of the dipole jet in multi-body dynamics and wall effects.

Mathematical model of coupled thermo-mechanical behavior during plane strain compression of 06Cr19Ni9NbN steel

The process of plane strain compression of 06Cr19Ni9NbN steel was carried out in the temperature range of 1000-1200℃ and the reduction ratio range of 10-50%.Combining the finite element numerical simulation,a new constitutive model of thermal deformation was established, which provides the theoretical basis to optimize the plarie strain compression process of the steel.The temperature and grain size at different regions were achieved by experiment and simulation,respectively.According to the results,the mathematical models of stress and temperature during the plane strain compression were established by mathematical analysis method.The new temperature models were established in three regions,respectively,and the stress models took account of the variation of temperature and'st^rain rate.Finally,by comparing the results of calculation,numerical simulation and experiment,the accuracy and validity of these mathematical models were verified.

Measurement of Random Surface Parameters by Angle-Resolved In-plane Light Scattering with Constant Perpendicular Wave Vector

We report the experimental method of angle-resolved in-plane light scattering for random surface parameter extraction.In the measurement of the scattered intensity profile at a certain angle of incidence,the perpendicular component of wave vector remains constant,which is realized by controlling the movement of the detector along a specified circular arc segment.We use the central S-peak and the half-width of the diffused intensity profiles and their variations to obtain the roughness w,the lateral correlation lengthξand roughness exponent a of the rough surface sample.The measurement copes strictly with the theoretical analysis,and the inherent problem in previous in-plane light scattering experiment is overcome so that the changes of the perpendicular component of wave vector affect the half width a diffused intensity profile and the measurement accuracy.
