State laws governing school physical education in relation to attendance and physical activity among students in the USA: A systematic review and meta-analysis

Background:This study systematically synthesized and quantified the relationship linking state laws governing school physical education(PE)to PE attendance and physical activity(PA)in class and throughout the day and week among students in the ***:A keyword search was performed in PubMed,Web of Science,Cumulative Index to Nursing and Allied Health Literature(CINAHL),Academic Search Complete,and ***-analyses were performed to estimate the effects of state PE ***:A total of 17 studies were included in the review,and five contributed to the meta-analyses.A total of 8 studies used nationally representative school-or student-level data,three focused on multiple states,and the remaining six examined the PE laws of a single *** presence and strength of state PE laws were positively associated with PE attendance and the frequency and duration of PA during PE classes and throughout the school *** to those residing in states with weak or no PE laws,students in states with strong PE laws had an additional 0.2 days(95%confidence interval(95%CI):0.10.4)of PE attendance per week and spent an additional 33.9 min(95%CI:22.745.0)participating PE classes per *** PE laws affected girls’PA more than boys’.Different aspects of state PE laws tended to affect students’PE attendance *** in the implementation of state PE laws existed across ***:Future studies should adopt objective measures on PE and PA participation and examine the roles schools and districts play in mediating the effect of state PE laws on students’PE attendance and PA.

Motivational processes in physical education and objectively measured physical activity among adolescents

Purpose:Grounded in self-determination theory(SDT),the present study tested how students’perceptions of autonomy support from physical education teachers predicts objectively measured moderate-to-vigorous physical activity(MVPA)of *** to SDT,it was expected that psychological needs and autonomous and controlled forms of motivation would mediate these ***:Students(n=397)aged from 11 to 15 years in 17 different schools filled in questionnaires regarding SDT *** addition,objective MVPA was measured using an accelerometer(ActiGraph GT3X;ActiGraph,Pensacola,FL,USA)for 7 *** equation modelling was used to examine the hypothesized relationships among the study ***:The theory-based model showed a good fit with the data:x2=642.464,df=257;comparative fit index=0.932;non-normed fit index=0.921;root mean square error of approximation=0.062;root mean square error of approximation 90%confidence interval:0.054*** hypothesized,there was a significant and positive direct relationship between autonomy support and need satisfaction(b=0.81,p=0.001).In turn,need satisfaction positively predicted intrinsic motivation(b=0.86,p=0.001).Intrinsic motivation was positively related to MVPA(b=0.29,p=0.009).A significant indirect effect(b=0.20,p=0.004)supported the mediating role of psychological need satisfaction and intrinsic motivation in the relationship between perceived autonomy support and objectively measured ***:The findings of the current study support the applicability of the SDT-based model in explaining the antecedents of objectively measured MVPA of *** enhance adolescents’daily MVPA,special focus should be put on increasing their intrinsic motivation toward physical education.

Background: Identifying factors associated with physical activity(PA) is useful in planning interventions and policies. The aim of this study was to identify sociodemographic, biological, and psychosocial factors associated with PA performed in school ***: Data collected for the present study included gender, age, socioeconomic status, body fat percentage, aerobic fitness, self-efficacy, attitudes,peer and parental support, and perception of school environment. Dependent variables were light-intensity PA(LPA) and moderate-to-vigorousintensity PA(MVPA) performed during school time, recesses, and physical education(PE) classes. Multiple regression analyses were ***: Participating adolescents(n = 567, 53% female, 12.9 ± 5.3 years) spent 5% of school time in MVPA and 27% in LPA, 15% of recesses in MVPA and 44% in LPA, and 16% of PE classes in MVPA and 41% in LPA. Boys engaged in more MVPA in all categories. Age was inversely related with MVPA and LPA in all periods, whereas body fat percentage was inversely related with MVPA in school time and PE classes. Attitude was inversely related with MVPA in all periods and with LPA in recesses. Considering PA to be good and enjoyable was positively associated with MVPA in school ***: Adolescents spent little time in PA during school. Future interventions should implement enjoyable activities at school.

The Association between physical education and Mental Health Indicators in Adolescents:A Cross-Sectional Study

Objective:To explore the associations between physical education attendance and mental health ***:Using data from the Global Student Health Survey,the frequency of physical education attendance,suicidality-related indicators,loneliness,bullying,and anxiety were all assessed using a standardized self-reported *** logistic regression was used to estimate the association between physical education attendance and mental health-related ***:The study included 276,169 participants from 71 coun-tries(47.3%males,aged 11–18 years old).After controlling for sex,age,food insecurity,close friends,physical activity,sedentary time,others’help,and parents’understanding,physical education attendance was not signiﬁ-cantly associated with suicidal attempts,suicidal ideation,and ***,compared with no physical edu-cation attendance,individuals attending physical education for 1,2,as well as 5 or more days had signiﬁcantly reduced odds/ratios of suicide;only 2 days of physical education attendance was associated with a lower odds ratio for suffering from *** 1 day of physical education was associated with not being bullied by ***:This study suggests that physical education attendance may not have an effective role in reducing mental health illnesses in children and *** studies are encouraged to corroborate or negate our research discoveries by using better and further improved study designs.

Game Changers are mainly studied and researched in this dissertation on their entry into communities and schools with applying their knowledge and skills to design some available games for the disadvantaged youngsters, who can find self-esteem, become confident and much stronger during the activities. By the methods of literature review, visit investigation and logical analysis, the dissertation does the research on parenting games for those 5-13 years old children with mental retardation at Beidaihe, China. The game made the conductor gain much more actual practical experience, leadership, and teamwork skills;made the aided experience love and emotion with family members and partners;and provided scientific references for similar studies in the future.

Influence of personal and lesson factors on caloric expenditure in physical education

Increasing caloric expenditure in physical education is considered an effective school-based approach to addressing the child obesity *** study was designed to determine synergistic influences of student characteristics and lesson factors o caloric expenditure in elementary and middle school physical ***:The study used a multi-level ***-1 factors included personal characteristics:age,gender,and body mass ***-2 factors included lesson length,content,and school *** on the Center for Disease Control and Prevention age-gender adjusted growth chart,students in 87 classes from 14 elementary and 15 middle schools were pre-screened into "Overweight","Healthy weight",or “Thin” *** boy and one girl were randomly selected from each group in each class as data providers(264 elementary and 294 middle school students).Caloric expenditure was measured in 243 physical education lessons using ***:Analysis of variance revealed and hierarchical linear modeling confirmed separate age by body mass index,age by gender,and content by lesson-length interaction effects,suggesting that the personal and lesson factors influenced caloric expenditure *** male and heavier students burned more calories in all *** burned more calories in 45-60 min sport skill or fitness lessons than in shorter (30 min)or longer(75-90 min)game or multi-activity ***:The hypothesized cross-level interaction was not observed in the *** expenditure can be optimized in 45-60 min sport skill or fitness development *** can be recommended that schools adopt 45-60 min lesson length and provide skill and fitness development tasks in physical education to maximize caloric ***(c)2012,Shanghai University of *** and hosting by Elsevier *** rights reserved.

The relationship of physical literacy to physical education is also discussed with potential ramifications for teachers and learners who adopt physical literacy as the goal of the subject area.
