Synthesis of di-substituted aryl olefins via a Pd（0）-catalyzed cross-coupling reaction of biphenyl ketones/alde- hydes, tosylhydrazide, and aryl bromides （or benzyl halides） was developed. This methodology was achieved by one-pot two-step reactions involving the preparation of N-tosylhydrazones by reacting tosylhydrazide with biphenyl ketones/aldehydes, followed by coupling with aryl bromides （or benzyl halides） in the presence of Pd（PPh3）4 and lithium t-butoxide to produce various di-substituted aryl olefins in moderate to good yields.

A simple and efficient protocol was established to synthesize γ-nitrocarbonyl compounds via three-component one-pot tandem condensation reaction of aldehydes, Meldrum＇s acid and nitroalkanes under solventfree conditions. The present method shows fascinating features such as using readily available starting materials, promoting the yields by inexpensive and mild organic base triethylamine, omiting the synthesis of Michael acceptor and avoiding the use of organic solvent. This strategy provides an easy alternative synthetic approach to the useful intermediate, γ-nitrocarbonyl compounds, with moderate to good yields.

The novel spirooxindoline fused [1,3]oxazines were efficiently synthesized from Diels-Alder reaction of N-arylmaleimides with 1,2-dihydro-2-oxospiro[3H-indole-3,2＇-[2H,9aH-pyrido[2,1-b][l,3]oxazines], which were generated in situ from three-component reactions of substituted pyridines and isatins with methyl propiolate, or di- methyl acetylenedicarboxylate. The stereochemistry of the products was clearly clarified by the analysis of 1H NMR data and single crystal structures of the obtained polycyclic compounds.

The one-pot four-component reaction of benzohydrazide,acetylenedicarboxylate,aromatic aldehydes and malononitrile in ethanol with triethylamine as base catalyst afforded functionalized 1-benzamido-1,4-dihydropyridines in satisfactory yields.Under similar conditions,picolinohydrazide or nicotinohydrazide can also be successfully utilized in the reactions to give corresponding functionalized 1,4-dihydropyridines.1H NMR data indicated that an equilibrium of cis/trans-conformations exist in 1-benzamido-1,4-dihydropyridines.

Suzuki coupling reactions between symmetrical monomers were conducted in various mesoporous silica nanoreactors grafted with palladium catalysts,enabling the selective formation of[12]cycloparaphenylene precursor with separate yield up to 25%in one-pot reactions,much higher than that in homogeneous reaction.The spatial nanoconfinement of the nanoreactors promotes the macrocyclization while limits the concomitant linear oligomer formation,offering more possibilities for the synthesis of macrocycles from symmetrical monomers in one-pot reaction.

A facile multi-component process for the synthesis of perfluoroalkylated quinolizine derivatives was achieved using various arylidenemalononitriles, pyridine, and methyl perfluoroalk-2-ynoates as starting materials. Moderate yields were obtained under mild condition. The structures of perfluoroalkylated quinolizine derivatives were char- acterized by means of IH NMR, 13C NMR, 19F NMR, IR, LRMS and HRMS. Furthermore, the reaction mechanism was proposed.

Aldehydes are perhaps the most versatile compounds that enable many C-C bond forming reactions,which are not amenable for other subclasses of carbonyl compounds.We report the first use of amides as surrogates of aldehydes for C-C bond formation,namely,the direct Knoevenagel-type condensation based on amides.The one-pot method consists of controlled reduction of an amide with LDBIPA[LiAlH(iBu)2(OiPr)],Lewis acid-mediated release of a reactive iminium ion intermediate,nucleophilic addition,and in situ elimination of amine.The reaction shows good functional group tolerance.We also demonstrated that the Schwartz reagent could be used as an alternative of LDBIPA.The employment of nitromethane and a silyl enol ether as the nucleophiles opens an avenue for the unprecedented amide-based nitro-aldol condensation reaction and aldol condensation reaction,respectively.

In the presence of zinc chloride,the in situ generatedβ-enamino ester from the reaction of morpholine,piperidine and pyrrolidine with methyl propiolate reacted,with aromatic aldehydes and thiourea in ethanol resulting in the functionalized tetrahydropyrimidin-2-thiones in satisfactory yields and with good diastereoselectivity.When aromatic aldehydes bearing electron-withdrawing group were used in the reaction,the 4-hydroxytetrahydropyrimidin-2-thione derivatives were obtained as the main product.
