Technical properties of two naphthalimide based disperse dyes on nylon 6 and polyester fibers were investigated in the presence of urea. The two naphthalimide based disperse dyes were synthesized. The dyes were purified and then fully characterized using 1H-NMR, FTIR and melting point analysis. Dispersion of the dyes was prepared in water and applied on nylon 6 and PET fibers. The dyes offered good build-up properties on the substrates. In order to increase dye adsorption of the substrates, urea was added into the dyebath. By adding urea, the dye adsorption of polyester was increased significantly, while the increase of that of nylon 6 was not marked. The dyes showed good fastness properties on the substrates.

Two highly cross-linked superfine styrene-butadiene rubber particles, one with 1 wt% of carboxyl groups and theother without such groups having particle sizes of 130-150 nm and 80-100 nm respectively, were used to prepare nylon6/rubber composites via in situ polymerization. It was found that carboxylic styrene-butadiene dispersed uniformly in nylonmatrix and there was strong interfacial interaction because of the graft polymer formed by the reaction of nylon with carboxylgroup of the rubber, resulting in considerably improved impact strength with almost unchanged tensile strength. However,the addition of styrene-butadiene without carboxyl groups showed intensive agglomeration of the rubber particles and weakinterfacial interactions, and the toughness of the materials was improved slightly. The crystallization and rheological behavior of the composites were also discussed.

Attapulgite fibers were modified by polyurethane, forming polyurethane grafted attapulgite （AT-PU）, which was confirmed by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy （FTIR）, X-ray diffraction （XRD） and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy （XPS）. nylon 6/AT-PU nanocomposites of different modified attapulgite loadings were prepared by melt blending in a twin screw extruder. Scanning electron microscopy （SEM） observation on the fracture surfaces of the nanocomposites showed not only a uniform dispersion of AT-PU but also a strong interfacial adhesion with the matrix. Differential scanning calorimeter （DSC） and Thermogravimetric analyzer （TGA） were used to illustrate the infiuence of AT-PU particles on the thermal properties of the nylon 6/AT-PU nanocomposites. The results indicated that the addition of attapulgite probably induced the heterogeneous nucleation and was favorable for the formation of γ -crystalline form, and that the higher thermal stability was obtained for the composites.

The alloy of nylon 6/acrylonitrile-butadiene-styrene （ABS） was used for a compatibilizer to generate the maleic anhydride （ABS-g-MAH）, in which the proportion of PA6/ABS is 90/10. The results of the mechanical tests show that when the content of ABS-g-MAH is 20 %, the impact strength of the alloy with the compatibilizer increased by around 41%, compared with that of the PA6/ABS alloy; Besides, the tensile strength has been significantly improved. Furthermore, in accordance with the dynamic mechanical analysis, a relaxation temperature of nylon 6 has raised from 70 ℃ to 110 ℃with the addition of ABS and ABS-g-MAH; moreover, and the obvious relaxations of β and 7 occur at about 60 ℃ and - 60 ℃, respec- tively. It can be seen from the scanning electron microscope （SEM） photographs that the compatibility has been improved through the addition of ABS-g-MAH. The water absorption of nylon 6 has also been improved by the addition of ABS and ABS-g-MAH. When the content of ABS-g-MAH is 10%, the water absorption of the alloy will fall by 50%.

Comparison of wear behavior of ABS and nylon6-Fe powder composite parts prepared with fused deposition modelling

Fused deposition modeling(FDM) is one of the latest rapid prototyping techniques in which parts can be manufactured at a fast pace and are manufactured with a high accuracy. This research work is carried out to study the friction and wear behavior of parts made of newly developed nylon6-Fe composite material by FDM. This work also involves the comparison of the friction and wear characteristics of the nylon6-Fe composite with the existing acrylonitrile butadiene styrene(ABS) filament of the FDM machine. This Is carried out on the pin on disk setup by varying the load(5, 10, 15 and 20 N) and speed(200 and 300 r/min). It is concluded that the newly developed composite is highly wear resistant and can be used in industrial applications where wear resistance is of paramount importance. Morphology of the surface in contact with the nylon6-Fe composite and ABS is also carried out.

Synergistic Effect of Carbon Nanotubes and Layered Double Hydroxides on the Mechanical Reinforcement of nylon-6 Nanocomposites

Synergistic effect in network formation of nylon-6 （PA6） nanocomposites containing one dimensional （ID） multi-walled carbon nanotubes （CNTs） and two dimensional （2D） layered double hydroxide （LDH） platelets on improving the mechanical properties has been studied. Mechanical tests show that, with incorporation of 1 wt% LDHs and 0.5 wt% CNTs, the tensile modulus, the yield strength as well as the hardness of the ternary composite are greatly improved by about 230%, 128% and 110% respectively, as compared with neat PA6. This is mainly attributed to the unique, strong interactions between the CNTs and the LDHs as well as the jammed network-like structure thus formed between the nanofillers, as confirmed by the morphological observations. As compared with the binary nanocomposites, a much enhanced solid-like behavior in the terminal region of the rheological curves can clearly be observed for the ternary system, which also indicates the formation of a percolating filler network.

In this research study,the mechanical properties of several Polymer matrix composites are *** composites are multi-phase materials in which reinforcing materials are properly mixed with a polymer *** precisely,nylon 6 reinforced with 5,15 and 25 wt.%of silicon carbide(SiC)and nylon 6 reinforced with 5,15 and 25 wt.%of boron carbide(B_(4)C),prepared by means of an injection moulding process at three different injection pressures are *** attention is paid to the tensile and impact strength of these *** Taguchi technique is used to optimize the process parameters such as reinforcement material,its percentage and the injection *** is observed that the specimens 5%SiC with 80 MPa injection pressure display a better tensile strength and similarly the specimen 5%B_(4)C with 90 MPa injection pressure have a superior impact strength.
