Internet-based nationwide evaluation of patient preferences for mobile health features in ankylosing spondylitis

Background Ankylosing spondylitis(AS)generally occurs in young adults.The functional impairments resulting in limitation in activities and social participation might exert lifetime impacts.The present study investigated the preferences for mobile health(mhealth)features motivating the self-management behaviors in AS.Methods The present study was an internet-based,nationwide quantitative study based on the Chinese Ankylos-ing Spondylitis Prospective Imaging Cohort(CASPIC)study,which was a nationwide,ongoing,prospective cohort study launched in conjunction with Smart-phone SpondyloArthritis Management System(SpAMS)in China.Par-ticipants with AS from the CASPIC were invited to report their mhealth preferences from December 2019 to February 2020.The questionnaire was designed to determine the patient preferences for 28 mhealth features.Sociodemographic characteristics,including age,gender,and work status,were collected.Results Among all the visitors to the online questionnaire(n=872),93.9%(819/872)respondents fully com-pleted the questionnaire and were enrolled in the present study.The mean age was(33.4±9.0)years,and 70.57%(578/819)of the respondents were males.The mean scores of 22(78.57%)features were greater than 4(like or strongly like).The mean standard deviation(SD)score of exercise instructions was 4.70(0.63),which was the most preferred feature,whereas the social interaction features were preferred the least.Pain analysis was more preferred among female respondents(4.72 vs.4.60,P=0.012),whereas all items of the social interaction theme and social interaction as a whole(3.73 vs.3.52,Phealth features.Exercise instructions and exercise scheduling are the most preferred features,whereas

Plasmonics-based biosensing assays have been extensively employed for biomedical applications. Significant advancements in use of plasmonic assays for the construction of point-of-care （POC） diagnostic methods have been made to provide effective and urgent health care of patients, especially in resource- limited settings. This rapidly progressive research area, centered on the unique surface plasmon resonance （SPR） properties of metallic nanostructures with exceptional absorption and scattering abilities, has greatly facilitated the development of cost-effective, sensitive, and rapid strategies for disease diagnostics and improving patient healthcare in both developed and developing worlds. This review highlights the recent advances and applications of plasmonic technologies for highly sensitive protein and nucleic acid biomarker detection. In particular, we focus on the implementation and penetration of various plasmonic technologies in conventional molecular diagnostic assays, and discuss how such modification has resulted in simpler, faster, and more sensitive alternatives that are suited for point-of-use. Finally, integration of plasmonic molecular assays with various portable POC platforms for mobile health applications are highlighted.

mobile health apps (MHAs) and medical apps (MAs) are becoming increasinglypopular as digital interventions in a wide range of health-related applications inalmost all sectors of healthcare. The surge in demand for digital medical solutionshas been accelerated by the need for new diagnostic and therapeutic methods inthe current coronavirus disease 2019 pandemic. This also applies to clinicalpractice in gastroenterology, which has, in many respects, undergone a recentdigital transformation with numerous consequences that will impact patients andhealth care professionals in the near future. MHAs and MAs are considered tohave great potential, especially for chronic diseases, as they can support the selfmanagementof patients in many ways. Despite the great potential associated withthe application of MHAs and MAs in gastroenterology and health care in general,there are numerous challenges to be met in the future, including both the ethicaland legal aspects of applying this technology. The aim of this article is to providean overview of the current status of MHA and MA use in the field ofgastroenterology, describe the future perspectives in this field and point out someof the challenges that need to be addressed.

Objective： mobile health （mhealth） provides an innovative and effective approach to promote prevention and management of coronary heart disease. However, the magnitude of its effects is unclear. The aim of this systematic review was to examine the impact of mhealth-based cardiac rehabilitation outcomes among coronary heart disease patients. Methods： Medline, CINAHL, Embase, PubMed, Google Scholar, NICE, and Cochrane library were searched for randomized controlled trials published between January 2002 and March 2017 which compared mhealth with conventional cardiac rehabilitation programs among coronary heart disease patients. Results： Eight articles were included in this review. The impact of mhealth interventions on physical activity, medicine adherence, smoking cessation, level of anxiety, and quality of life was inconsistent among the articles. Conclusions： Further research is needed to conclusively determine the impact of mhealth interventions on cardiac rehabilitation outcomes. The limitations of the included studies （e.g., inadequate sample size, failure to address the core components of cardiac rehabilitation programs, and lack of theory-based design） should be taken into account when designing future studies.

With the proliferation of mobile technologies in China,the Chinese mobile medical applications market is growing rapidly.This may be particularly useful for Chinese rural populations who have limited access to quality medical care where mobile technologies can reach across geographic and socioeconomic boundaries and potentially increase access to care and improve health outcomes.

Constructing piezoelectret based on foamed plastic garbage is an advisable strategy for obtaining self-powered flexible electromechanical sensors with good performances.Herein,a self-powered piezoelectret sensor with basic material of low density polyethylene(LDPE)foamed plastic garbage is proposed,with characteristics of easy fabrication,excellent flexibility,and high equivalent piezoelectric coefficient d33 value up to~1,100 pC/N.The output stability is verified by continuously stimulating a sensor for~180,000 cycles under low and high applied pressure,and the variations of peak outputs are less than 5.5%.Applications for measuring low-and high-pressure signals from human body are achieved.Assembled with a wristband,a sensor is demonstrated for detecting the human pulse waves.Moreover,real time human sitting information is wirelessly monitored with a smart chair based on 4 pixels sensors array.

Diabetes is one of the fastest-growing non-communicable diseases,becoming an important public health concern worldwide as well as in China.Currently,China has the largest population living with diabetes.Artiﬁcial intelligence(AI)is a fast-growingﬁeld and its applications to diabetes could enable the delivery of better management services for people with diabetes.This perspective summarized the latestﬁndings of digital tech-nologies and AI use in the following areas of diabetes care,mainly including screening and risk predictions of diabetes and diabetic complications,precise monitoring and inter-vention combined with new technologies,and mobile health application in self-management support for people with diabetes.Challenges to promote further use of AI in diabetes care included data standardization and integra-tion,performance of AI-based medical devices,motivation of patients,and sensitivity to privacy.In summary,although the AI applications in clinical practice is still at an early stage,we are moving toward a new paradigm for diabetes care with the rapid development and emerging application of AI.

In a context of a virus that is transmissive by sputtering,wearing masks appear necessary to protect the wearer and to limit the propagation of the disease.Currently,we are facing the 2019-2020 coronavirus pandemic.Coronavirus disease 2019(COVID-19)is an infectious disease with first symptoms similar to the flu.The symptom of COVID-19 was reported first in China and very quickly spreads to the rest of the world.The COVID-19 contagiousness is known to be high by comparison with the flu.In this paper,we propose a design of a mobile application for permitting everyone having a smartphone and being able to take a picture to verify that his/her protection mask is correctly positioned on his/her face.Such application can be particularly useful for people using face protection mask for the first time and notably for children and old people.The designed method exploits Haar-like feature descriptors to detect key features of the face and a decision-making algorithm is applied.Experimental results show the potential of this method in the validation of the correct mask wearing.To the best of our knowledge,our work is the only one that currently proposes a mobile application design“CheckYourMask”for validating the correct wearing of protection mask.

Background： Secondary preventive therapies play a key role in the prevention of adverse outcomes after coronary artery bypass grafting （CABG）. However, medication adherence alter CABG is often poor, and conventional interventions for improving adherence have limited success. With increasing penetration of smartphones, health-related smartphone applications might provide an opportunity to improve adherence. Carefully designed trials are needed to provide reliable evidence for the use of these applications in patients after CABG. Methods： The Measurement and Improvement Studies of Surgical Coronary Revascularization： Medication Adherence （MISSION-2） study is a multicenter randomized controlled trial, aiming to randomize 1000 CABG patients to the intervention or control groups in a 1 ： 1 ratio. We developed the multifaceted, patient-centered, smartphone-based Heart health Application to encourage lnedication adherence in the intervention group through a health self management program initiated dnring hospital admission for CABG. The application integrated daily scheduled reminders to take the discharge medications, cardiac edticational materials, a dynamic dashboard to review cardiovascular risk factors and secondary prevention targets, and weekly questionnaires with interactive feedback. The primary outcome was secondary preventive medication adherence measured by the Chinese version of the 8-item Morisky Medication Adherence Scale at 6 months after randomization. Secondary outcomes included all-cause death, cardiovascular rehospitalization, and a composite of death, myocardial infarction, stroke, and repeat revascularization.Discussion： Findings will not only provide evidence regarding the feasibility and effectiveness of the described intervention for improving adherence to CABG secondary preventive therapies but also explore a model tor outpatient health self-managenlent that could be translated to various chronic diseases and widely disseminated across resource-limited settings.
