Impact of meteorological condition changes on air quality and particulate chemical composition during the COVID-19 lockdown

Stringent quarantine measures during the Coronavirus Disease 2019(COVID-19)lockdown period(January 23,2020 to March 15,2020)have resulted in a distinct decrease in anthropogenic source emissions in North China Plain compared to the paralleled period of ***,22.7%decrease in NO_(2)and 3.0%increase of O_(3)was observed in Tianjin,nonlinear relationship between O_(3)generation and NO_(2)implied that synergetic control of NOx and VOCs is *** meteorological condition during the COVID-19 lockdown obscured the actual PM2.5 *** transport in 2020 Spring Festival(SF)triggered regional haze ***2.5 during the COVID-19 lockdown only reduced by 5.6%in *** we used the dispersion coefficient to normalize the measured PM2.5(DN-PM2.5),aiming to eliminate the adverse meteorological impact and roughly estimate the actual PM2.5 reduction,which reduced by 17.7%during the COVID-19 *** terms of PM2.5 chemical composition,significant NO_(3)−increase was observed during the COVID-19 ***,as a tracer of atmospheric oxidation capacity,odd oxygen(Ox=NO_(2)+O_(3))was observed to reduce during the COVID-19 lockdown,whereas relative humidity(RH),specific humidity and aerosol liquid water content(ALWC)were observed with noticeable *** oxidation rate(NOR)was observed to increase at higher specific humidity and ALWC,especially in the haze episode occurred during 2020SF,high air humidity and obvious nitrate generation was *** enhanced air humidity may response for the nitrate increase during the COVID-19 lockdown period.

Impacts of the meteorological condition versus emissions reduction on the PM_(2.5) concentration over Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei during the COVID-19 lockdown

The impacts of the meteorological condition and emissions reduction on the aerosol concentration over the Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei(BTH) region during the COVID-19 lockdown were analyzed by conducting three numerical experiments,including one with the meteorological field in 2019 and MEIC-2019(2019 monthly Multi-resolution Emissions Inventory for China),one with the meteorological field in 2020 and MEIC-2019,and one with the meteorological field in 2020 and MEIC-2020,via a WRF-Chem *** numerical experiments were performed from 3 to 16 February in 2019 and in 2020,during which a severe fog-haze event(3-16 February 2020) occurred in the BTH region,with a simulated maximum daily PM2.5 of 245μg m-3 in Tangshan and 175μg m-3 in *** results indicate that the daily PM2.5 decreased by 5-150μg m-3 due to the emissions reduction and increased by 10-175 μg m-3 due to the meteorological condition in Beijing,Shijiazhuang,Cangzhou,Handan,Hengshui,Chengde,Zhangjiakou,and Tangshan from 7 to 14 *** the horizontal distribution,PM2.5 and different aerosol species concentrations from 7 to 14 February 2020 increased compared with those during the same period in 2019,indicating that the accumulation of pollutants caused by the unfavorable meteorological condition offset the decreases caused by the emissions reduction,leading to the high aerosol concentration during the COVID-19 lockdown.

Study on Statistical Forecast Method for O_3 Concentration near the Ground in Pudong District of Shanghai Based on meteorological condition Analysis

[Objective] The research aimed to study statistical forecast method for O3 concentration near the ground in Pudong District of Shanghai based on meteorological condition analysis. [Method] Via observation and statistical analysis of the O3 concentration near the ground in Pudong District of Shanghai from 2006 to 2008, by considering meteorological condition, a kind of simple and practical new method suiting for forecast of the O3 concentration and pre-warning of the high-concentration O3 pollution event in whole year was established. [Result] meteorological condition had obvious influence on O3 concentration near the ground. O3 concentration was the biggest in sunny day, followed by cloudy day. O3 concentration near the ground had typical seasonal change characteristics, and high value mainly happened in summer. meteorological condition generating high-concentration O3 included sunny day, strong UV radiation, low relative humidity, high temperature and small wind speed, etc. By surveying historical weather chart, 10 kinds of main weather situations affecting Shanghai were summed. Under each weather situation, occurrence probability of the high-concentration O3 near the ground and average O3 concentration were conducted statistics. We found that occurrence probability of the high-concentration O3 was the biggest under northwest side of the subtropical high type, followed by internal type of the subtropical high. By introducing HPPI and WDI and comprehensively considering various meteorological factors, forecasting equation of the O3 concentration was established based on stepwise regression. The equation had good fitting effect and predictability on the daily maximum O3 concentration. [Conclusion] The method also could provide reference for O3 forecast in other areas.

1 INTRODUCTION meteorological factors, especially precipitation, have close links with geological calamities. According to the statistics, more than 70% of the geological calamities in China occur in rainy seasons. Many researchers are thus motivated to study extensively to determine their relationship in the prediction of geological calamltles . They either rely on single measurements of rainfall to seek basis for widespread occurrence of geological calamities or treat antecedent diurnal rainfall with equal importance, though with account of the accumulated effect of preceding rainfall. Furthermore, it is common for quite a number of models to use the rainfall recorded at hydrological or meteorological rain gauges as the one for the interested day, reducing the time validity of the prediction. In our analysis, it is found that the landslides and debris flows in Zhejiang province are related with the antecedent precipitation （but not by a simple accumulation）. Critical amounts of accumulated and effective rainfall are used in this work to tell whether there will be geological calamities. Moreover, MM5 is used to forecast rainfall, taking account in equations of the predictand for landslides and debris flows, in attempts to predict the appearance of meteorological condition for geological calamities and improve the rationality of forecasting procedures and time validity of forecasts.

Spray drift has always been a focus research area in the field of unmanned aerial vehicle(UAV)*** the fixed premises of UAV operating parameters,such as height,speed and spraying liquid,the droplet drift is mainly affected by meteorological *** this research,the spray drift and deposition tests were conducted using a QuanFeng120 UAV in a pineapple field under various different meteorological *** experimental results showed that with the changes of UAV operating height and wind speed,the start position of the in-swath deposition area changed 4 m in the extreme *** percentage of the total spray drift was from 15.42%to 55.76%.The position of cumulative spray drift that accounted for 90%of the total spray drift was from 3.70 m to 46.50 m relative to the flight *** to the downwind spray drift curve,the nonlinear equations of the same type under the four operating conditions of the UAV were *** spray drift and the deposition of UAV application were significantly affected by different meteorological conditions and UAV operating *** results could provide a theoretical basis for UAV spraying in pineapple plants and support for spray drift control and prediction.

ANALYSIS OF meteorological conditionS FOR THE BASE OF MARINE SPORTS IN THE 26TH SUMMER UNIVERSIADE IN SHENZHEN IN 2011

Based on the real-time wind direction and speed data from an automatic meteorological monitoring network in Shenzhen, the wind characteristics of Jue Diao Sha maritime area are analyzed. As indicated in the results, the wind speed of this area is higher than that over the land, the average wind speed is above 3 m/s and the probability for the maximum wind speed to drop below 20 m/s is above 90%. Moreover, the probability for the hourly swing angle of wind direction to become less than 50o is above 80%, suggesting that the wind conditions in the Jue Diao Sha area could meet the requirements of the sporting events. According to the numerical simulation, this area is the best selected site among three candidates. Furthermore, the characteristics of daily land and sea breezes are such that it is suggested the game will be best carried out from 1000 to 1700 Beijing Standard Time.

Variations in summertime ozone in Nanjing between 2015 and 2020:roles of meteorology,radical chain length and ozone production efficiency

Changes in ozone(O_(3))can be evaluated to inform policy effectiveness and develop reasonable emissions reduction *** study investigated the causes of summertime maximum daily 8-h average(MDA8)O_(3) variation between 2015 and 2020 in Nanjing,China,a megacity in the Yangtze River Delta(YRD)region,from the perspective of meteorological conditions and anthropogenic emissions of O_(3) precursors(VOCs and NO_(x)).Compared with 2015,the observed MDA8 O_(3) decreased by 19.1μg/m^(3) in August *** indirect and indirect impacts of meteorological conditions contributed 44%of the decline,with temperature,relative humidity,and wind playing important roles in the O_(3) *** O_(3) drop by 10.7μg/m^(3)(56%of the total decrease)may have been due to the decreases in anthropogenic emissions of VOCs and NO_(x) by 7.8%and 11.7%,*** longer hydroxyl(OH)radical chain length and higher ozone production efficiency(OPE)indicated that the reduction of anthropogenic emissions accelerated the RO_(x)(RO_(x)=OH+HO_(2)+RO_(2))and NO_(x) cycles in O_(3) production,making O_(3) more sensitive to NO_(x).This corresponded to the O_(3) formation shifting from a VOC-limited regime in 2015 to a transition regime in 2020 and O_(3) decrease with anthropogenic emission ***,the joint control of O_(3) precursor emissions can effectively mitigate O_(3) pollution in Nanjing.

Spatiotemporal variations of ambient air pollutants and meteorological influences over typical urban agglomerations in China during the COVID-19 lockdown

To investigate the air quality change during the COVID-19 pandemic,we analyzed spatiotemporal variations of six criteria pollutants in nine typical urban agglomerations in China using ground-based data and examined meteorological influences through correlation analysis and backward trajectory analysis under different *** of PM2.5,PM10,NO2,SO2 and CO in urban agglomerations respectively decreased by 18%–45%(30%–62%),17%–53%(22%–39%),47%-64%(14%–41%),9%–34%(0%–53%)and 16%-52%(23%–56%)during Lockdown(Post-lockdown)period relative to Pre-lockdown ***2.5 pollution events occurred during Lockdown in Beijing-Tianjin-Hebe(BTH)and Middle and South Liaoning(MSL),and daily O3 concentration rose to gradeⅡstandard in Post-lockdown *** from the nationwide slump of NO2 during Lockdown period,a rebound(~40%)in Post-lockdown period was observed in Cheng-Yu(CY),Yangtze River Middle-Reach(YRMR),Yangtze River Delta(YRD)and Pearl River Delta(PRD).With slightly higher wind speed compared with 2019,the reduction of PM2.5(51%–62%)in Post-lockdown period is more than2019(15%–46%)in HC(Harbin-Changchun),MSL,BTH,CP(Central Plain)and SP(ShandongPeninsula),suggesting lockdown measures are effective to PM2.5 *** O3 concentrations generally increased during the lockdown,its increment rate declined compared with 2019 under similar sunlight duration and ***,unlike HC,MSL and BTH,which suffered from additional(>30%)air masses from surrounding areas after the lockdown,the polluted air masses reaching YRD and PRD mostly originated from the long-distance transport,highlighting the importance of joint regional governance.

Analysis on Agrometeorological conditions of Production of Winter Wheat and Rape Crops in Western Guizhou in 2019

Whole growth period of winter wheat and rape crops in western Guizhou in 2019 was from October of 2019 to early May of *** daily temperature,rainfall and sunshine hours of three national meteorological observatories(Shuicheng,Panzhou and Liuzhi)of western Guizhou,the impact of meteorological conditions on growth and development of winter wheat and rape crops was *** results showed that average temperature in whole growth period of winter wheat and rape crops in western Guizhou in 2019 was between 11.1 and 13.0℃,which was 0.4-1.6℃higher than that in the same period of common *** was between 276.0 and 309.0 *** compared with that in the same period of common year,rainfall was 7%-22%less in other regions except in Panzhou(1%more).Sunshine hours was between 689.2 and 1091.2 *** compared with that in the same period of common year,sunshine hours was 14%-26%more in other regions except in Shuicheng(equal).In growth period of winter wheat and rape crops,there was good heat condition and sufficient sunshine,and rainfall was normal and slightly less,but it was mostly sunny and rainy alternating,which was favorable for the growth of crop *** growth period of crops,there was lighter meteorological *** was clear that meteorological conditions were conducive to the growth and development of winter wheat and rape crops in 2019.

Enhancement and Removal of PM_(2.5)by Cold and Warm Air Masses Accompanying Certain Synoptic Weather Systems across Hangzhou,China during 2014-2020

Local air pollution is strongly affected by synoptic weather systems,such as fronts,troughs,low-altitude vortices,or high-altitude ***,few studies have analyzed the meteorological properties of cold or warm air masses associated to these systems and their impact on local air *** this study,hourly observations of fine particulate matter(diameter of up to 2.5µm,i.e.,PM_(2.5)),wind(V),temperature(T),pressure(P),and precipitation(R),acquired in Hangzhou in 2014-2020,were *** this analysis,weather patterns were categorized into 27 types;89 and 94 cases illustrating the passage of warm and cold air masses over Hangzhou were identified,respectively;the influence of air mass temperature,wind speed,and wind direction on PM_(2.5) concentrations and local accumulation or removal was *** main results are as follows.(1)Pollution events occurred more frequently for cold than for warm air masses,but average pollutant concentration was lower for cold air masses;(2)48%of the cold air mass cases corresponded to PM_(2.5) decreases and 52%to PM_(2.5) increases,with strong cold air masses(ΔT_(24h)>4°C;∣V∣_(average)>4 m s^(−1))markedly reducing local pollution,but weak cold air masses(ΔT24h4°C)reduced the PM_(2.5) concentration whereas weaker winds(∣V∣_(average)<2 m s^(−1))increased it;and(4)PM_(2.5) concentration decreased sharply within 4 h after the passage of strong cold air masses,but more gradually within 14 h after the passage of strong warm air *** results considerably improve the current understanding of the influence of cold and warm air masses on local pollution patterns.
