Fear extinction is a biological process in which learned fear behavior diminishes without anticipated reinforcement,allowing the organism to re-adapt to ever-changing *** on the behavioral hypothesis that extinction is new learning and forms an extinction memory,this new memory is more readily forgettable than the original fear *** brain’s cellular and synaptic traces underpinning this inherently fragile yet reinforceable extinction memory remain *** questions are about the whereabouts of the engram neurons that emerged during extinction learning and how they constitute a dynamically evolving functional construct that works in concert to store and express the extinction *** this review,we discuss recent advances in the engram circuits and their neural connectivity plasticity for fear extinction,aiming to establish a conceptual framework for understanding the dynamic competition between fear and extinction memories in adaptive control of conditioned fear responses.

本文在海马体的启发下设计了一种与光照时长相关的记忆器件.与常规的持续性正/负电导不同,基于类网状二硫化钼沟道层的记忆器件表现出随光照时长逐渐降低的正光电导.由于光照下缺陷诱导的捕获陷阱会在阳极附近形成耗尽层,导致局部电场畸变,从而使载流子分离效率净降低,该器件表现出随光照时长先增加后降低的光响应,而且再次光激发的响应电流低于前一次光激发的电流,即再次光激发读出电流与前一次光照时长相关.因此在405 nm激光光照下该器件可用于光照时长编码和模拟压力诱导下的完整记忆行为包括记忆编码、存储和再检索.此外,通过再引入450 nm激光可以实现光照时长编码的加密与解密,同时也可以进一步模拟压力引发的相应激素对记忆的影响.

The study on patient H.M. provides one of the first evidences that hippocampus plays a vital role in memory formation, however a lot of solid studies point out that hippocampus seems to work temporally: As time goes by it becomes unnecessary towards a certain memory. Many theories and studies argue that neocortex may serve to be the final location for memory storage. Using in vivo imaging on the expression of immediate early gene Egr1, our group found that when animal were trained under environment with multiple sensory cues, sparse memory traces formed in layer 2/3 neurons of multiple areas of neocortex including visual cortex. However, it remains elusive whether the neuronal activation in memory-related ensemble presents the uni-or multi-sensory signal. If the signal presentation is multi-sensory integration, how can such multimodal representation be encoded and retrieved? By in vivo imaging of EGR1 expression, we tracked the population activation in visual cortex and provided the direct evidences that the neuronal responses during learning consist multi-sensory signal components, which includes visual and foot-shock related sensory signal. Furthermore, hippocampus reinstates the multi-sensory integration in the same local area, revealing an expanded integrative mechanism of memory in a single cortical unit.
