Different lipid sources differ in the fatty acid profiles and differently affect growth performance as well as immune function of broilers. The influences of different dietary lipid sources on growth performance, nutrient digestibility, blood T lymphocyte population, and cardiac antioxidant status were investigated of broilers. A total of 360 one-day-old male broilers(BW = 44 ± 3 g) were randomized into 3 treatment groups, consisting of 6 replicates with 20 birds in each group. Broilers received standard diets supplemented with 5%(wt/wt) of lard(LD, as a control diet), sesame oil(SO), or flaxseed oil(FO).Broilers in both SO and FO treatment groups had lower(P lymphocyte count and in CD4^+:CD8^+ ratio compared to LD treatment.Sesame oil and FO treatments increased cardiac glutathione peroxidase(P lymphocytes ratio of fast growing broilers.

Background:Although a variety of risk factors of pneumonia after clipping or coiling of the aneurysm(post-operative pneumonia[POP])in patients with aneurysmal subarachnoid hemorrhage(aSAH)have been studied,the predictive model of POP after aSAH has still not been well established.Thus,the aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of using admission neutrophil to lymphocyte ratio(NLR)to predict the occurrence of POP in aSAH patients.Methods:We evaluated 711 aSAH patients who were enrolled in a prospective observational study and collected admission blood cell counts data.We analyzed available demographics and baseline variables for these patients and analyzed the correlation of these factors with POP using Cox regression.After screening out the prognosis-related factors,the predictive value of these factors for POP was further assessed.Results:POP occurred in 219 patients(30.4%)in this cohort.Patients with POP had significantly higher NLR than those without(14.11±8.90vs.8.80±5.82,P10 had significantly worse POP survival rate than patients having NLR≤10.NLR at admission might be helpful as a predictor of POP in aSAH patients.

BABSTRACTackground Nonmyeloablative allogeneic bone marrow transplantation has been used since the 1990s as a new hematological stem cell transplantation strategy for treating hematological diseases. The purpose of this study was to explore the graft-versus-leukemia (GVL) effects of donor lymphocyte infusions (DLIs) after nonmyeloablative allogeneic bone marrow transplantations, while assessing the declines in treatment-associated morbidity, mortality, and graft-versus-host disease (GVHD).Methods A total of 615 (H-2~k) mice were injected with L615 tumor cells and received 500 cGy (^(60)Coγ-ray) irradiation three days later, followed by an allogeneic bone marrow transplantation (allo-BMT). The allo-grafts consisted of 3×10~7 bone marrow cells and 1×10~7 spleen cells from BALB/C (H-2~d) donor mice. Two days after the allo-BMT, the recipient mice were given 200 mg/kg of cyclophosphamide. Subsequently, recipient mice were infused with either donor spleen cells (2×10~7) on day 14 or 21, or donor spleen cells (5×10~7) pretreated with hydrocortisone and cyclosporin A (CsA) in vitro on day 14 post-BMT.Results The median survival time of mice that received DLI on day 21 and pretreated DLI on day 14 post-BMT was longer than that of controls and the day 14 DLI group (Plymphocyte infusion after nonmyeloablative bone marrow transplantation may reduce transplantation-associated morbidity and mortality while strengthening graft-versus-leukemia effects.

Background lymphocyte function and homeostasis is associated with immune defence to infection.Apoptosis of lymphocytes might be a considerably important component which has an impact on immunity to infections in people with hyperglycemia.The aim of this study was to explore the mitochondrial apoptosis pathway of lymphocyte in diabetic patients.Methods Sixty patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus and fifty healthy volunteers were included in this study.Annexin V and propidiumiodide （Pl） were joined in the isolated lymphocytes and the rate of lymphocyte apoptosis was calculated with flow cytometry.Observation of the lymphocytes was done using transmission electron microscopy; mitochondria had been extracted and then mitochondrial membrane potential （MMP） was detected to assess mitochondrial function; the mRNA level of Bcl-2,cytochrome c （Cyt-C）,caspase-9 and caspase-3 were analyzed by real-time reverse transcriptionpolymerase chain reaction （RT-PCR）.Results Apoptosis rate of lymphocyte was significantly higher in diabetic group than that in normal control group （P ＜0.05）.Transmission electron microscopy showed lymphocyte shrinkage and breakage,chromatin condensation and less mitochondria; a fall in MMP levels was also evident; Bcl-2 concentration was reduced and the expressions of caspase-9,caspase-3 and Cyt-C were elevated （P ＜0.05） in diabetic patients.Conclusions The rate of lymphocyte apoptosis was significantly higher in type 2 diabetic patients than that in normal population.Mitochondrial apoptosis pathway may play a very important role in decreasing function of lymphocyte in diabetes.

The aim of this study was to determine whether the neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio （NLR）, a measure of the systemic inflammatory response is associated with the overall prostate cancer detection rate in men who underwent contemporary multi （〉12）-core transrectal ultrasound （TRUS） biopsy. We reviewed the records of 3913 patients with initial prostate-specific antigen （PSA） levels ranging from 4 to 10 ng ml^-1 who underwent TRUS-guided prostate biopsy between April 2006 and May 2014. NLR was calculated by prebiopsy neutrophil and lymphocyte counts. We excluded patients who had evidence of acute prostatitis, a history of prostate surgery, and any systemic inflammatory disease. A multivariate logistic regression model was used to analyze prostate cancer detection. After adjusting for confounding factors, predictive values were determined according to the receiver operating characteristic-derived area under the curve, both including and excluding the NLR variable. In univariate analyses, NLR was a significant predictor of prostate cancer detection （P 〈 0.001）. In multivariate analyses, a higher NLR was significantly associated with prostate cancer detection after adjusting for other factors （OR = 1.372, P = 0.038）. The addition of NLR increased the accuracy from 0.712 to 0,725 （P = 0.005） in the multivariate model for prostate cancer detection. NLR may be a potentially useful clinical marker in the detection of prostate cancer among men with a PSA level in the 4-10 ng ml^-1 range. These findings are derived from a retrospective analysis and should be validated in larger populations through prospective studies.

This study was performed to build region-specific reference ranges of peripheral blood lymphocyte subsets for Chinese healthy adults from the young to the elderly and analyze the trends of changes in lymphocyte subsets for evaluating the impact of age on the values.151 healthy adults aged 19-86 were recruited based on the SENIEUR protocol.Three sets of reference ranges were finally built applicable for the healthy young(19-44 years),middle-aged(45-64 years) and elder adults(≥65).Comparisons in parameters among the three cohorts showed that a statistically significant increase in CD16CD56+ NK cell was observed between the middle-aged and elder cohorts,whereas for the majority of the parameters,a significant decline was observed between the young and the middle-aged cohorts.Further results showed that inverse correlations were observed between the age and CD19+ B,CD3+ T,CD3+CD4+ T,CD4+CD45RA+CD62L+ nave T cell and CD4+CD28+/CD4+,while the positive one was identified between the age and the NK cell.These significant changes of the most of immune parameters provided evidence for immunosenescence.Notably,T cell activation markers of CD8+CD38+ and CD8+HLA-DR+ showed reverse trends of association with age,which provides a clue for further researches on the mechanisms underlying the paradoxical clinical presentation of the elder patients.

Objective：To study the characteristics of lymphocyte nuclear factor kappa B（NF-κB） signal transduction kinase-related molecular mRNA differential expressions at various month age segments in aging process and the intervening effect of Epimedium flavonoids（EF） on it.Methods：Sixty SD rats were divided into six groups,according to animals＇ age,i.e.,the 3 days（d） group,the 4 months（m） group,the 10 m group,the 18 m group,the 27 m group,and the 27 m＋EF group.RNA was extracted from separated splenic lymphocytes. Adopting NF-κB signal path functional genome oligonucleotide gene-chip（128 related genes）,the integral characteristics and differences of NF-κB signal transduction kinase-related mRNA expressions were determined, and the intervening effect of EF was examined.Results：The mean level of the NF-κB signal transduction kinase-related mRNA expressions in rats＇ splenic lymphocytes lowered with aging;the highest expression was presented at 3 d after birth,and then,it lowered gradually,with the lowest level at 18 m or 27 m.After EF intervention,the expression level was raised to the 10-18 m level in the aged rats.Conclusion：The changing rules of lymphocyte NF-κB-signal-transduction-kinase-related mRNA expressions in various stages of aging are helpful for selecting the well time for preventing and intervening aging,and will also give a hint to the molecular index for assessment of senility retarding researches.

AIM To evaluate the prognostic value of the neutrophil-tolymphocyte ratio(NLR) and platelet-to-lymphocyte ratio(PLR) in patients with colorectal cancer(CRC).METHODS Between April 1996 and December 2010, medical records from a total of 1868 patients with CRC were retrospectively reviewed. The values of simple inflammatory markers including NLR and PLR in predicting the long-term outcomes of these patients were evaluated using Kaplan-Meier curves and Cox regression models.RESULTS The median follow-up duration was 46 mo(interquartile range, 22-73). The estimation of NLR and PLR was based on the time of diagnosis. In multivariate Cox regression analysis, high NLR (≥ 3.0) and high PLR(≥ 160) were independent risk factors predicting poor long-term outcomes in patients with stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ CRC. However, high NLR and high PLR were not prognostic factors in patients with stage Ⅰ and Ⅱ CRC.CONCLUSION In this study, we identified that high NLR (≥ 3.0) and high PLR (≥ 160) are useful prognostic factors to predict long-term outcomes in patients with stage Ⅲ and Ⅳ CRC.

BACKGROUND Intrahepatic cholangiocarcinoma(ICC)is a heterogeneous hepatobiliary cancer with limited treatment options.A number of studies have illuminated the relationship between inflammation-based prognostic scores and outcomes in patients with ICC.However,the use of reliable and personalized prognostic algorithms in ICC after resection is pending.AIM To assess the prognostic value of the gamma-glutamyltransferase to lymphocyte ratio(GLR)in ICC patients following curative resection.METHODS ICC patients following curative resection(2009-2017)were divided into two cohorts:The derivation cohort and validation cohort.The derivation cohort was used to explore an optimal cut-off value,and the validation cohort was used to further evaluate the score.Overall survival(OS)and recurrence-free survival(RFS)were analyzed,and predictors of OS and RFS were determined.RESULTS A total of 527 ICC patients were included and randomly divided into the derivation cohort(264 patients)and the validation cohort(263 patients).The two patient cohorts had comparable baseline characteristics.The optimal cut-off value for the GLR was 33.7.Kaplan-Meier curves showed worse OS and RFS in the GLR>33.7 group compared with GLR≤33.7 group in both cohorts.After univariate and multivariate analysis,the results indicated that GLR was an independent prognostic factor of OS[derivation cohort:hazard ratio(HR)=1.620,95%confidence interval(CI):1.066-2.462,P=0.024;validation cohort:HR=1.466,95%CI:1.033-2.142,P=0.048]and RFS[derivation cohort:HR=1.471,95%CI:1.029-2.103,P=0.034;validation cohort:HR=1.480,95%CI:1.057-2.070,P=0.022].CONCLUSION The preoperative GLR is an independent prognostic factor for ICC patients following hepatectomy.A high preoperative GLR is associated with worse OS and RFS.
