Human adenoviruses(HAdVs)can cause acute hepatitis in immunocompromised ***,it is unclear whether HAdVs are contributors to hepatitis in immunocompetent *** this study,the liver function test(LFT)results were retrospectively analyzed among children hospitalized(age2 folds of the upper limit of ALT or AST levels were infected with HAdV-7 or *** higher levels of ALT,AST,γ-glutamyl transpeptidase(γ-GT),and lower albumin levels were observed in the HAdV-7 infection group than in the HAdV-3 infection ***-55 infection led to significantly higherγ-GT,total bilirubin,and direct bilirubin levels than the other infection *** records of four patients with serial monitoring of the LFT results were further *** indicators remained abnormal during the entire hospitalization in these *** results indicate that HAdV infection is often accompanied by abnormal liver function,and HAdV-7 and HAdV-55 might be under-recognized contributors to hepatitis among children.

Hepatitis E virus infection is usually a self-limited ***,during the last years there has been growing evidence for prolonged and chronic infection occurring in patients with *** patients with malig-nant and rheumatic diseases have been identified to be at risk for chronic hepatitis ***,their course and prognosis are not well characterized and there have been no reports of hepatitis E virus infection in patients with gynecological ***,we report three Caucasian females with breast and ovarian cancers presenting with elevation of amino-transferase levels during anticancer *** only few or no clinical hints suggested hepatitis E virus infection,the diagnosis of hepatitis E virus infection was confirmed by seroconversion,which might occur with some delay,and/or by polymerase chain *** two patients had a self-limited course,the third patient with a high-risk oncological constellation required ribavirin in order to resume *** cases highlight the need for hepatitis E virus testing in patients with gynecological cancer and elevated aminotransferase ***,these cases show that in selected high-risk patients,ribavirin treatment may be nec-essary based on the decision of a multidisciplinary team.

Systemic rheumatic diseases(SRDs)are chronic,inflammatory,autoimmune disorders with the presence of autoantibodies that may affect any organ or *** dysfunction in SRDs can be associated with prescribed drugs,viral hepatitis,alternative hepatic comorbidities and coexisting autoimmune liver diseases(AILDs),requiring an exclusion of secondary conditions before considering liver *** patterns of overlap diseases depend predominantly on genetic determinants with common susceptible loci widely distributing in both *** AILDs,it is important to identify the overlapping SRDs at an early stage since such a coexistence may influence the disease course and *** co-occurring SRDs in AILDs are Sjögren syndrome(SS),rheumatoid arthritis(RA)or systemic lupus erythematosus(SLE)in autoimmune hepatitis(AIH),and SS,RA or systemic sclerosis in primary biliary *** to different disease complications and therapies,it is imperative to differentiate between SLE liver involvement and SLE-AIH overlap *** options can be personalized to control coexisting conditions of liver autoimmunity and rheumatic manifestations in AILD-SRD overlap *** collaboration between hepatologists and rheumatologists can lead to significant advances in managing such a complex *** this review,we provide a comprehensive overview on coexisting AILDs in different SRDs and the therapeutic approach in managing these overlap diseases.

Background: liver regeneration is crucial to restore the functional liver mass after liver resection. The aim of this study was to evaluate the early postoperative changes in remnant liver function, volume and liver stiffness after major liver resection and their correlation with postoperative outcomes. Methods: Patients undergoing major liver resection (≥3 segments) between February and November 2018 underwent both functional assessment using technetium-99m mebrofenin hepatobiliary scintigraphy (HBS) and CT-volumetry of the (future) remnant liver on preoperative day 1, the 5th postoperative day, and 4-6 weeks after resection. At the same time points, patients underwent transient elastography (TE) for the assessment of liver stiffness. Severe postoperative complications (Clavien-Dindo ≥ 3A) and mortality were correlated with the functional and volumetric increases of the remnant liver. liver failure was graded according to the International Study Group of liver Surgery (ISGLS) criteria. Results: A total of 18 patients were included of whom 10 (56%) had severe complications and one patient (5%) developed liver failure. function and volume of the remnant liver had increased by the 5th postoperative day from 6.9 (5.4-10.9) to 9.6 (6.7-13.8) %/min/m2, P=0.004 and from 795.5 (538.3-1,037.5) to 1,080.0 (854.0-1,283.3) mL, Pliver volume had further increased [from 1,080.0 (854.0-1,283.3) to 1,222.0 (1,016.0-1,380.5) mL, P=0.035], however, liver function did not show any significant, further increase [from 9.6 (6.7-13.8) to 10.9 (8.8-13.6) %/min/m2, P=0.177]. liver elasticity of the future remnant liver (FRL) increased [from 10.8 (5.7-18.7) to 17.5 (12.4-22.6) kPa, P=0.018] and gradually recovered after 4-6 weeks to a median of 10.9 (5.7-18.8) kPa (T3 vs. T4, P=0.079). liver biochemical tests are some of the most commonly ordered routine tests in the inpatient and outpatient setting,especially with the automatization of testing in this technological *** tests include aminotransferases,alkaline phosphatase,gamma-glutamyl transferase,bilirubin,albumin,prothrombin time and international normalized ratio(INR).Abnormal liver biochemical tests can be categorized based on the pattern and the magnitude of aminotransferases ***,abnormalities in aminotransferases can be classified into a hepatocellular pattern or cholestatic pattern and can be further sub-classified based on the magnitude of aminotransferase elevation to mild[5-15×ULN).Hepatocellular pattern causes include but are not limited to;non-alcoholic fatty liver disease/non-alcoholic steatohepatitis,alcohol use,chronic viral hepatitis,liver cirrhosis(variable),autoimmune hepatitis,hemochromatosis,Wilson’s disease,alpha-1 antitrypsin deficiency,celiac disease,medication-induced and ischemic *** pattern causes include but is not limited to;biliary pathology(obstruction,autoimmune),other conditions with hyperbilirubinemia(conjugated and unconjugated).It is crucial to interpret these commonly ordered tests accurately as appropriate further workup,treatment and referral can greatly benefit the patient due to prompt treatment which can improve the natural history of several of the diseases mentioned and possibly reduce the risk of progression to the liver cirrhosis.

Objective:To determine lactate dehydrogenase(LDH)level as an indicator of liver,muscular or cancer diseases in patients of more than 40 years of ***:Ninety-one patients(43 females and 48 males)had been tested for LDH and liver function tests(LFTs).Creatine kinase(CK)levels were measurement only in patients who had high levels of ***:As an indicator for liver diseases,high levels of LDH and one or more of LFTs,especially alkaline phosphatase,had been observed in 12 patients(8 females and 4 males).For muscular damage,measurement of CK in patients with elevated levels of LDH and normal levels of LFT revealed that CK values elevated in three males and one *** high LDH levels,as an indicator for cancer diseases,were found in three males and one female who had normal values of LFTs and ***:LDH can be regarded as a good biomarker for diagnosis of liver,muscular and cancer *** is little variable between males and females in the elevated value of *** who had high values of LDH,although they had normal levels of LFTs and CK are proposed to have unidentified cancer disease.

Aim:The flowers of Bombax ceiba are traditionally used as home remedy in the treatment of jaundice and spleen *** present work investigated the effect of aqueous extract of flowers of Bombax ceiba(BCAE)on experimentally induced hepatotoxicity in rats to substantiate its traditional use as hepatoprotective ***:Hepatotoxicity was induced in rats by carbon tetrachloride(CCl_(4))treatment;at the same time vehicle or BCAE(250 or 500 mg/kg)or silymarin(25 mg/kg)were administered daily orally for seven *** was assessed by estimating the activities of marker enzymes and by histological *** antioxidant effect of BCAE was assessed by measuring amount of antioxidant phytochemicals(total phenolics and flavonoids),and DPPH free radical scavenging assay of the ***:BCAE treatment significantly prevented the CCl_(4)-induced elevations in levels of glutamate oxaloacatate transaminase,glutamic pyruvic transaminase,alkaline phosphatase,bilirubin,and triglycerides,and decreased the total protein *** with BCAE attenuated the CCl_(4)-induced cytotoxic damage to *** exhibited presence of antioxidant phytochemicals and showed scavanging action on DPPH *** hepatoprotective effect of BCAE was comparable to that of the standard antioxidant hepatoprotective agent,*** findings indicated that BCAE showed hepatoprotective effect against CCl_(4)-induced hepatotoxicity and exhibited in vitro antioxidant ***:Bombax ceiba flowers exhibited hepatoprotective effect which may be attributed to antioxidant *** study also validated their traditional medicinal use in liver disorders.
