Polyelectrolyte-doped microcapsules(PDM)was fabricated by coaxial electrospray of a mixture of glycerol and water containing 10 mg/mL cationic polyelectrolyte poly(allylamine hydrochloride)(PAH)fed as the core phase solution,and a N,N-dimethylacetylamide solution of 10 wt%polyurethane fed as the shell phase *** system involving Candida Antarctica lipase B(CALB),glucose oxidase(GOD),and horseradish peroxidase(HRP)for cascade reaction was assembled in the PDM at three different places,namely,surface,shell,and *** of enzyme inside aqueous lumen of the PDM was realized by in situ encapsulation through adding the enzyme in the core-phase solution for coaxial *** ion-pairing of enzyme with cationic surfactant CTAB,an organic soluble enzyme-CTAB complex was prepared,so that in situ embedding of enzyme in the shell of the PDM was realized by adding it into the shell phase *** attachment of enzymes was achieved by layer-by-layer(LbL)technology,which is based on the ion-exchange interactions between oppositely charged enzymes and PAH that was doped in *** enzyme-decorated microcapsule was then studied as a microbioreactor,in which 1-Oxododecyla-α-glucopyranoside was converted by CALB to glucose,which was oxidised by GOD to gluconolactone in a second *** hydrogen peroxide produced was then used by HRP to oxidize ABTS to form coloured radical cation ABTS•+for activity *** successful fabrication of the PDM and precise localization of enzymes in the PDM by different strategies were fully *** varying the immobilization strategy,totally six PDM bioreactors with three enzymes precisely positional assembled in different strategies were constructed and their activities for the cascade reaction were investigated and *** PDM micro-bioreactor prepared by novel electrospray technologies provide a smart platform for positional assembly of multi-enzyme cascade reaction in a precise and well-controlle

Photosystem II （PSII） is a photoactive protein that can drive water oxidation under light irradiation. Recently, PSII has been broadly investigated with the high demand on the bioenergy. Here, we demonstrate a facile approach for the fabrication of a photoactive electrode by the integration of PSII with quantum dots （QDs）/polyelectrolyte multilayers. The assembled QDs and PSII film with a polyelectrolyte based substrate via layer-by-layer assembly can remain the photoactivity of the PSII and broaden the absorption spectrum of PSII to produce a high photocur- rent yield. The co-assembly exhibits an obviously enhanced photocurrent under UV light irradiation. The proposed strategy can be considered for the reference and usage of PSII toward the solar energy conversion.

Effect of carboxymethyl konjac glucomannan coating on curcumin-loaded multilayered emulsion:stability evaluation

The continuous progress in the field of bionanotechnology has become crucial for the development and improvement of new and interesting architectures applicable to *** important step in the fabrication of new generation of nanostructured platforms for biosensors was achieved with the layer-by-layer assembly technique[1].The most distinct advantage of the LbL assembled-films lies in the possibility of minimizing denaturing because of its mild conditions process carried out in aqueous solutions in the field of electrochemistry for studying biological *** discovery of graphene in 2004 added a new dimension to electrochemical biosensor research with its fast electron transportation and good *** recent years,to extend the functionalities of graphene,much attention has been focused on the fabrication of graphene hybrids architecture[2,3].Herein,the graphene hybids architecture has been constructed via LbL assembly with Prussian blue(PB) nanoparticles and *** representation was shown in Figure1,in which bare graphene and those modified with PAA were used as building blocks,*** was demonstrated that the developed architecture film had showed good sensitivity toward HO and *** could be expected that the combination of useful graphene and versatile LbL technique could develop more efficient and more advanced biosensing devices.

The stability against various environmental stresses of the curcumin-loaded secondary and tertiary emulsions that was emulsified by whey protein isolate(WPI)and coated by chitosan(CHI),carboxymethyl konjac glucomannan(CMKGM),or their combination through layer-by-layer assembly was ***,the multilayered emulsions were destabilized in high Na Cl concentrations or medium p H that could interrupt the electrostatic interaction between the three polyelectrolytes or deprotonate CHI,indicating that electrostatic interaction played an important role in the stability of *** with the primary emulsion that was solely stabilized by WPI,extra coating with CHI and CMKGM generally increased the stability of the emulsion against repeated freezing-thawing,improved the retention of curcumin against heating,UV irradiation,and long-term storage,and the effects were more remarkable in the tertiary emulsion with CMKGM locating in the outmost *** CMKGM has shown the colon-targeted delivery potency,the multilayered emulsions assembled by layer-by-layer deposition,especially the tertiary emulsion,could be used as an effective carrier for the targeted delivery of curcumin.

The infection induced by implantation of biomedical materials may result from the biofilm formation after bacteria ***,the antibiofilm surface coating represents a novel technique to improve the antibacterial activity of biomedical *** traditional antibiofilm surface coatings exhibited some disadvantages and provided a limited service *** this work,we used polyethyleneimine grafted 3-maleimidopropionic acid(PEIM)and poly(acrylic acid)grafted 2-furfurylamine(PAAF)to achieve robust and self-healable crosslinked multilayer coatings,employing layer-by-layer(LbL)self-assembly technique and Diels-Alder ***,thiol-terminated poly((3-acrylamidopropyl)trimethylammonium chloride)(PAMPTMA-SH)was grafted onto the crosslinked multilayer coating by thiol-ene click reaction to form a novel multilayer coating(PEIM/PAAF)_(10)-*** found that this coating showed robust and self-healable activity,and significantly inhibited the bacterial growth and biofilm formation after infection with Escherichia coli(***)and Staphylococcus aureus(***)by in vitro and in vivo assays for 120 *** addition,the multilayer coating did not induce significant hemolysis or affect the cell viability of red blood *** vivo studies also showed that(PEIM/PAAF)_(10)-PAMPTMA coating efficiently blocked the infiltration of inflammatory cells and gene expression in the mouse skin challenged with E coli or *** together,these results showed that the prepared multilayer coating exhibited strong antibiofilm activity and provided a new strategy for the application of highly efficient antibiofilm surface coating of biomedical materials.

A cyclometalated diruthenium complex 2 bridged by 1,2,4,5-tetra(pyrid-2-yl)benzene with six carboxylic acid groups at two ends was *** and multilayer films FTO/TiO2/(2)n(Zr)(n=1,2)and FTO/SnO2:Sb/(2)n(Zr)(n=1-4)have been prepared via interfacial layer-by-layer coordination assembly of 2 with zirconium(IV)*** films show two consecutive redox couples in the potential range between 0 and+1.0 V ***/*** films exhibit reversible near-infrared electrochromism upon switching of redox *** response time of the films on SnO2:Sb is around a few seconds,while that on TiO2 is around a few tens of *** film deposition cycles were found to have a great impact on the electrochromic *** six films examined,the two-layered film on SnO2:Sb displays the best balanced performance with a contrast ratio of 56%at 1,150 nm and good cyclic stability(9%loss of contrast ratio after 1,000 continuous double-potential-switching cycles),which is superior to that of the previously reported electropolymerized films of a related diruthenium complex with the same bridging *** addition,the X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy,scanning electron microscopy,and electron transfer mechanism of these films have been investigated.

We report a fuel-free, near-infrared （NIR）-driven Janus microcapsule motor. The Janus microcapsule motors were fabricated by template-assisted polyelectrolyte layer-by-layer assembly, followed by spraying of a gold layer on one side. The NIR-powered Janus motors achieved high propulsion with a maximum speed of 42μm.s-1 in water. The propulsion mechanism of the Janus motor was attributed to the self-thermophoresis effect： The asymmetric distribution of the gold layer generated a local thermal gradient, which in turn generated thermophoretic force to propel the Janus motor. Such NIR-propelled Janus capsule motors can move efficiently in cell culture medium and have no obvious effects on the cell at the power of the NIR laser, indicating considerable promise for future biomedical applications.

A Novel Chitosan-based Sponge Coated with Self-assembled Thrombin/Tannic Acid Multilayer Films as a Hemostatic Dressing

In order to prepare a novel hemostatic dressing for uncontrolled hemorrhage, a porous chitosan sponge was coated with self-assembled（thrombin/tannic acid）n films, which were based on hydrogen bonding interactions between thrombin and tannic acid at physiologic p H. According to the whole blood clotting test, the coated chitosan sponges showed a significantly high rate of blood clotting due to the addition of thrombin. On the other hand, the storable half-life of immobilized thrombin is extended to 66.9 days at room temperature, which is 8.5 times longer than unfixed thrombin. It is because of the immobilization effect of, not only the porous structure of chitosan sponge but also the interactions between thrombin and tannic acid. In addition, the tannic acid has similar antibacterial effect to chitosan. Therefore, it is an excellent combination of chitosan, thrombin and tannic acid. Besides, all of materials in this research have been approved by the United States Food and Drug Administration（FDA）. So the chitosan-based sponge is a promising candidate dressing for uncontrolled hemorrhage due to its storable, bio-safe and highly effective hemostatic properties.
