This study aimed to describe the situation of iodine supplementation in pregnant women,and to explore the effects of such supplementation measures on iodine nutrition and thyroid function.Pregnant women in seven provinces were selected by multi-stage sampling.Basic information was collected and a food frequency questionnaire was administered.Salt iodine,urinary iodine,and thyroid function were determined.Subjects were divided into five groups based on iodine supplementation.For pregnant women,the median urinary iodine concentration(MUIC)in seven provinces was 164.3μg/L,and thyroid nodules(15.75%)were a common thyroid disease.Gestation,iodine supplementation,etc.impacted iodine nutrition and thyroid function.Compared with other groups,simultaneous iodine supplementation with iodized salt,iodine-rich foods,and iodine preparations(the ISFP group)was the most effective approach for improving iodine nutrition;supplementation via iodine-rich foods only showed the lowest prevalence of TPOAb-positive(5.48%)and TgAb-positive(1.37%)diseases.In addition,pregnant women with MUIC in the 150–249μg/L range showed higher rates of TPOAb-positive(13.78%)disease and sub-hypothyroidism(5.38%)compared to those with MUIC in the 100–149μg/L range;however,goiter showed the opposite trend.Our results indicate that iodine supplementation needs vary from person to person.

An I_(2)-mediated[3+2]annulation of methyl-azaarenes with alkyl_(2)-isocyanoacetates or amino acid ester hydrochlorides has been demonstrated.This strategy involves CuN bond cleavage of isocyanides and can selectively synthesize iodine-functionalized and non-iodine-functionalized fused imidazoles.Scale-up experiments and arylation,alkynylation,alkenylation and selenization of iodine-functionalized products demonstrated the potential applications of this reaction.

Optimizing iodine capture performance by metal-organic framework containing with bipyridine units

Radioactive iodine exhibits medical values in radiology,but its excessive emissions can cause environmental pollution.Thus,the capture of radioiodine poses significant engineering for the environment and medical radiology.The adsorptive capture of radioactive iodine by metal-organic frameworks(MOFs)has risen to prominence.In this work,a Th-based MOF(denoted as Th-BPYDC)was structurally designed and synthesized,consisting of[Th_(6)(μ_(3)-O)_(4)(μ_(3)-OH)_(4)(H_(2)O)6]^(12+)clusters,abundant bipyridine units,and large cavities that allowed guest molecules diffusion and transmission.Th-BPYDC exhibited the uptake capacities of 2.23 g·g^(-1) and 312.18 mg·g^(-1) towards I_(2) vapor and I_(2) dissolved in cyclohexane,respectively,surpassing its corresponding analogue Th-UiO-67.The bipyridine units boosted the adsorption performance,and Th-BPYDC showed good reusability with high stability.Our work thus opened a new way for the synthesis of MOFs to capture radioactive iodine.

Thiophene-based covalent organic frameworks for highly efficient iodine capture

Development of adsorbent materials for highly efficient iodine capture is high demand from the perspective of ecological environment and human health. Herein, the two kinds of thiophene-based covalent organic frameworks(COFs) with different morphologies were synthesized by solvothermal reaction using thieno[3,2-b]thiophene-2,5-dicarbaldehyde(TT) as the aldehyde monomer and tri(4-aminophenyl)benzene(PB) or tris(4-aminophenyl)amine(PA) as the amino monomer(denoted as PB-TT COF and PA-TT COF) and the as-prepared two heteroatoms-rich COFs possessed many excellent properties,including high thermal stability and abundant binding sites. Among them, PB-TT COF exhibited ultra-high iodine uptake up to 5.97 g/g in vapor, surpassing most of adsorbents previously reported, which was ascribed to its high specific surface(1305.3 m2/g). Interestingly, PA-TT COF with low specific surface(48.6m2/g) showed good adsorption ability for iodine in cyclohexane solution with uptake value of 750 mg/g,which was 2.38 times higher than that obtained with PB-TT COF due to its unique sheet-like morphology.Besides, the two COFs possessed good reusability, high selectivity and iodine retention ability. Based on experimental results, the adsorption mechanisms of both COFs were studied, revealing that iodine was captured by the physical-chemical adsorption. Furthermore, the both COFs showed excellent adsorption ability in real radioactive seawater treated safely, demonstrating their great potential in real environment.

Efficient adsorption of gaseous radioiodine is pivotal for the sustainable development of nuclear energy and the long-termradiation safety of the ecological system.However,state-of-the-art adsorbents(e.***.metal-organic frameworks and covalent-organic frameworks)currently under exploration suffer severely from limited adsorption capacity,especially under a real-world scenariowith extremely lowradioiodine concentration and elevated temperature.This mostly originates from the relatively weak sorption driving forces mainly determinedby the iodine-adsorbent interaction consistingof noncovalent interactionswith a small fraction of strong chemical bonding.Here,we document the discovery of an open metal-sulfide framework((NH_(4))_(2)(Sn_(3)S_(7)),donated as SCU-SnS)constructed by three different types of active sites as a superior iodine adsorbent.Benefiting from the ability of iodine for pre-enrichment into the framework by charge-balancing NH_(4)^(+)through N-H···I interaction,the efficient reduction of I^(2)affording I^(-)by S^(2-),and extremely high binding affinity between Sn_(4)^(+)and I^(-),SCU-SnS exhibit a record-breaking iodine adsorption capacity(2.12 g/g)under dynamic breakthrough conditions and the highest static capacity(6.12 g/g)among all reported inorganic adsorbents,both at 348 K.Its facile synthesis and low cost endow SCU-SnS with powerful application potential for the nuclear industry.

Enriching iodine and Regulating Grain Aroma,Appearance Quality,and Yield in Aromatic Rice by Foliar Application of Sodium Iodide

Applying iodine fertilizers to cultivate iodine-rich crops for daily intake is an effective approach for iodine supplementation,especially for aromatic rice.Field experiments were conducted during the early growing seasons of 2021 and 2022 to evaluate the impacts of foliar application of iodine fertilizer on aromatic rice and to explore the optimal iodine fertilizer concentration.At the full heading stage,six different concentrations of sodium iodide solutions of 0%(CK),0.010%(T1),0.025%(T2),0.050%(T3),0.075%(T4),and 0.100%(T5)were applied to indica aromatic rice cultivars Meixiangzhan 2 and Xiangyaxiangzhan.The results showed that sodium iodide treatments significantly increased the iodine and sodium contents in both leaves and grains.Compared with the CK,the T1 and T2 treatments increased the 2-acetyl-1-pyrroline(2-AP)content in mature grains by 8.41%-101.66%and 13.58%-74.60%,respectively.Improvements in the contents of 1-pyrroline-5-carboxylic acid,proline,1-pyrroline,and methylglyoxal,as well as the activity of proline dehydrogenase were also detected.Additionally,sodium iodide treatments remarkably decreased the chalky grain rate,chalkiness area,and chalkiness degree of aromatic rice,with the T2 treatment exhibiting a 17.79%-47.42%decrease in chalkiness degree compared with the CK.Meanwhile,T1 and T2 treatments showed beneficial impacts on chlorophyll content,photosynthetic characteristics,and yield components,while T3,T4,and T5 treatments exhibited adverse effects on leaf and grain yields.The linear discriminant analysis revealed significant differences between treatments.The correlation analysis and piecewise structural equation modeling showed that the iodine and sodium influenced the photosynthetic characteristics and chlorophyll content of the leaves,thereby regulating the 2-AP biosynthesis and yield components,ultimately affecting the 2-AP content and yield.Overall,this study suggests that foliar application of 0.025%sodium iodide is an effective method to enrich the iodine content in rice grains,impro

Summary of main observation and conclusion Herein,unprecedented rhenium-catalyzed decarboxylative oxytri-/difluoromethylation and Heck-type trifluoromethylation of styrenes have been developed by using hypervalent iodine(Ⅲ)reagents derived from cheap,stable,and easy-handling fluorinated carboxylic acids.Mechanistic studies revealed a radical decarboxylative trifluoromethylation pathway occurring in these reactions.
