Do methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase, cyclohydrolase, and formyltetrahydrofolate synthetase 1 polymorphisms modify changes in intelligence of school-age children in areas of endemic fluorosis?

Background: Excessive exposure to fluoride can reduce intelligence. Methylenetetrahydrofolate dehydrogenase, cyclohydrolase, and formyltetrahydrofolate synthetase 1 (MTHFD1) polymorphisms have important roles in neurodevelopment. However, the association ofMTHFD1 polymorphisms with children’s intelligence changes in endemic fluorosis areas has been rarely explored.Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted in four randomly selected primary schools in Tongxu County, Henan Province, from April to May in 2017. A total of 694 children aged 8 to 12 years were included in the study with the recruitment by the cluster sampling method. Urinary fluoride (UF) and urinary creatinine were separately determined using the fluoride ion-selective electrode and creatinine assay kit. Children were classified as the high fluoride group and control group according to the median of urinary creatinine-adjusted urinary fluoride (UFCr) level. Four loci ofMTHFD1 were genotyped, and the Combined Raven’s Test was used to evaluate children’s intelligence quotient (IQ). Generalized linear model and multinomial logistic regression model were performed to analyze the associations between children’s UFCr level,MTHFD1 polymorphisms, and intelligence. The general linear model was used to explore the effects of gene-environment and gene-gene interaction on intelligence.Results: In the high fluoride group, children’s IQ scores decreased by 2.502 when the UFCr level increased by 1.0 mg/L (β= –2.502, 95% confidence interval [CI]: –4.411, –0.593), and the possibility for having "excellent" intelligence decreased by 46.3% (odds ratio = 0.537, 95% CI: 0.290, 0.994). THE tremendous impact of large models represented by ChatGPT[1]-[3]makes it necessary to con-sider the practical applications of such models[4].However,for an artificial intelligence(AI)to truly evolve,it needs to possess a physical“body”to transition from the virtual world to the real world and evolve through interaction with the real environments.In this context,“embodied intelligence”has sparked a new wave of research and technology,leading AI beyond the digital realm into a new paradigm that can actively act and perceive in a physical environment through tangible entities such as robots and automated devices[5].

On the principles of Parsimony and Self-consistency for the emergence of intelligence

Ten years into the revival of deep networks and artificial intelligence,we propose a theoretical framework that sheds light on understanding deep networks within a bigger picture of intelligence in general.We introduce two fundamental principles,Parsimony and Self-consistency,which address two fundamental questions regarding intelligence:what to learn and how to learn,respectively.We believe the two principles serve as the cornerstone for the emergence of intelligence,artificial or natural.While they have rich classical roots,we argue that they can be stated anew in entirely measurable and computable ways.More specifically,the two principles lead to an effective and efficient computational framework,compressive closed-loop transcription,which unifies and explains the evolution of modern deep networks and most practices of artificial intelligence.While we use mainly visual data modeling as an example,we believe the two principles will unify understanding of broad families of autonomous intelligent systems and provide a framework for understanding the brain.

Estimating intelligence Quotient Using Stylometry and Machine Learning Techniques:A Review

The task of trying to quantify a person’s intelligence has been a goal of psychologists for over a century.The area of estimating IQ using stylometry has been a developing area of research and the effectiveness of using machine learning in stylometry analysis for the estimation of IQ has been demonstrated in literature whose conclusions suggest that using a large dataset could improve the quality of estimation.The unavailability of large datasets in this area of research has led to very few publications in IQ estimation from written text.In this paper,we review studies that have been done in IQ estimation and also that have been done in author profiling using stylometry and we conclude that based on the success of IQ estimation and author profiling with stylometry,a study on IQ estimation from written text using stylometry will yield good results if the right dataset is used.

[目的/意义]在一些情报学著述的汉译本中,英语术语intelligence除了被译作"智能"之外,大多被译作"情报",而不是根据语境和目标读者译作不同的汉语术语,从而导致汉语词义的不精准或歧义。其根本原因是英语intelligence与汉语"情报"语义内涵与外延的差异所致。这种汉译误区造成现实的贻害不小,必须认真对待并纠正。[方法/过程]功能对等理论给我们提供了一个有效的视角和路径。解析译文可能引起"情报"范畴扩大的误解,并建议根据上下文,在专业著述中将其分别译为"智能""情报""情报工作"或"情报活动""情报组织"或"情报机构",抑或在译语中保留源语术语,即术语零翻译。在非专业文本中,在不影响语义内涵的前提下优先确保中文易懂性。[结果/结论]规范情报学术语使用,优化语言环境,消除西学东渐负面影响,不仅是解决歧义产生的方法,也是推进情报学健康发展的有效路径。
