The columnar jointed rock mass(CJR), composed of polygonal cross-sectional columns cut by several groups of joints in various directions, was exposed during the excavations of the Baihetan hydropower station, China. In order to investigate the unloading performances and the stability conditions during excavation of the columns, an experimental field study was performed. Firstly, on-site investigations indicated that the geotechnical problems, including rock relaxation, cracking and collapse, were the most prominent for the CJR Class I that contains intensive joint network and the smallest column *** field tests, including deformation measurement by multi-point extensometers, ultrasonic wave testing, borehole television observation and stress monitoring of rock anchors, revealed that the time-dependent relaxation of the CJRs was marked. The practical excavation experiences for the Baihetan columnar jointed rock masses, such as blasting scheme, supporting time of shotcrete and rock bolts, were presented in the excavations of the diversion tunnels. These detailed investigations and practical construction experiences can provide helpful information for similar geotechnical works in jointed rock mass.

According to the construction project of the crustal deformation mobile monitoring network in the cascade hydropower stations built in the lower reaches of Jinsha River,this paper analyzes the design ideas and layout principles of crustal deformation mobile monitoring used in the monitoring of reservoir induced earthquakes. This paper introduces three types of monitoring networks used in the Xiluodu reservoir and Xiangjiaba reservoir, as well as the work already undertaken,in order to provide a kind of reference for the related engineering construction and comprehensive monitoring of reservoir induced earthquakes.

International investors in large infrastructure projects face numerous risks. To explore this issue, this paper compares the development of two hydropower stations in Rasuwa District, Nepal: Upper Trishuli 3A, which is fully funded by a Chinese government bank, and Rasuwagadhi, which is fully funded by local government *** construction of these two plants was compared between 2012 and 2020 using a visual interpretation method to extract data on roads, buildings, dams, and vehicles from 1-m-resolution remote sensing imagery. Two methods were used to compare the environmental impacts of each plant. Landsat 7/8 30-m imagery was used to monitor changes in the normalized difference vegetation index around the Upper Trishuli 3A hydropower station from 2012to 2020 and around the Rasuwagadhi hydropower station from 2014 to 2020. Then, 1-m-resolution imagery was used to observe land-cover differences in these areas and time periods. The results indicate that:(1) despite various challenges, such as geological disasters, the COVID-19 pandemic, and a blockade by the Indian government,there was no difference in construction progress between the two hydropower stations.(2) The Upper Trishuli 3A hydropower station was associated with better environmental protection work, as there were continuous declines in vegetation growth near Rasuwagadhi and increased overall vegetation growth near Upper Trishuli 3A.(3) Energy projects funded by the Belt and Road Initiative have benefited developing countries enormously. Finally, local conditions should be thoroughly investigated during the construction of foreign-funded power stations.

It elaborates the measures for suppressing GIS over-voltage and the tests on VFTO, besides technical measures to ensure safety and stability of power system in the station. It also makes some analyses and summaries about the problems encountered in operation of the equipment.

In the power market environment, due to the uncertainty of the reservoir inflow and the pool purchase price, it is very important to research power generation risk dispatch of hydropower plants, taking into consideration the benefits and risk control of both sides. This paper investigates power generation risk dispatch of hydropower plants in the market environment, and proposes a mathematical model which considers maximization of benefits and risk control, reflects control willingness of risk and benefits, resolves it with the PSO algorithm, finding more economic and reasonable results. The feasibility and validity of the model and resolving methods are verified by an example.

Reasonable site selection, blocking to meet design standards, interception and drainage and other protective measures are the basic conditions for not causing disaster in slag disposal site. A hydropower station is located in mountainous area, the amount of slag abandoned is large, the grade of slag disposal field is high, and the site selection is difficult. On the basis of in Situ deformation monitoring, the slope stability of slag disposal site is calculated by Swedish arc method through the analysis of the scale, grade, site selection, surrounding environment, cut and discharge, blocking and protection design standards of slag disposal site. Under normal and abnormal operating conditions, the slope stability of slag disposal site meets the requirements of the code, and the results of in Situ deformation monitoring verify the calculation results of slope stability of slag disposal site by Swedish circular arc method.

Most of the hydropower projects in Southwest China and the adjacent foreign regions will be put into operation between 2015 and 2020, which will bring some difficulties for reasonable accommodation and delivery of electric energy. In this paper the author studies the development scale, development schedule, accommodation and transmission schemes of the cascade hydropower stations along the Lancang River basin, one of the five large basins in China, based on the load characteristics of grids at both the sending end and the receiving end, the strategy of complementary utilization of thermal power and hydropower, the advanced transmission technologies, and the optimal economic performance. The study results show that, the cascade hydropower stations on the upper reaches of the Lancang River in Yunnan should mainly serve Guangdong Province, with proper planning of partly serving Yunnan Province during dry seasons. The transmission schemes should adopt UHVDC, UHVAC, and single-tower double-circuited HVDC transmission scheme according to the transmission capacity and distance.
