Fixation of hybrid vigor in rice:synthetic apomixis generated by genome editing

Apomixis is an asexual reproduction process in which clonal seeds are formed without meiosis and *** of its potential in permanently preserving hybrid vigor,apomixis has attracted a great deal of interests from plant biologists and the seed ***,despite of decades of effort,introgression of apomixis traits from wild relatives into major crops has remained ***,synthetic apomixis has been proposed as an alternative to fix hybrid *** this article,I present the development of the MiMe(Mitosis instead of Meiosis),which turns meiosis into mitosis and leads to the production of clonal ***-like clonal seeds are generated when MiMe plants are crossed to special genome elimination lines,which contain an altered centromere-specific histone 3(CENH3).Furthermore,induction of haploid plants from egg cells can be achieved by either egg cell-specific expression of BABY BOOM1(BBM1),or disruption of MATRILINEAL(MTL)using CRISPR/Cas9 gene-editing *** apomixis is established and clonal seeds are produced by simultaneous engineering MiMe with altering BBM1 expression or MTL ***,I discuss how to further improve the apomixis strategy and its applications in crop breeding.

Study on the breeding technology of heterosis seedling of Laminaria and new combinations

After continuous breeding gametophyte of Laminaria, then breaking protonema, heterosis seedling is got by bilineal hybridization. The result shows that the weight-increasing rate of female and male gametophyte clone cells are 14.03% and 13.87%, after 16 d crossbreeding, the rate of ovulation is up to100%; the length of juvenile sporophyte after 40 d breeding is 2-3 cm. By farming on the sea, a hybrid combination is primarily screened.

Periclinal Chimera: A New Efficient Plant Breeding Technique

Periclinal chimera plants could be synthesized by a very easy grafting method. Thanks to this technique we can transfer useful characters from one genotype to another, we also can produce vigorous plants during a very short period. Recently in cassava, resistance to nematode could be transferred, and could develop vigorous plants by combining two types that have high combining ability. The most striking feature is that we can obtain enormous roots up to five times the common ones. By using this type of chimera we can replace traditional hybridization and no need to recurrent crosses cycles to transfer useful characters, reducing to a very short period developing a new variety and perpetuating it too.

The Effects of UV-B Radiation on Maize at the Seedling Stage

In this study, maize plant seedlings were grown in soilless cultures, with and without ^-B radiation at a close of 5.4 kJt（m2-d）. Three clays later, it was found that the treatment of UV-B radiation significantly reduced such characteristics as biomass, plant height, leaf area, and so on. Also, the photosynthesis of the maize was inhabited, the anti-oxid activity decreased, and the MDA concentration increased with the UV-B radiation exposure. The maize presented visible hybrid vigor under the control condition, while the hybrid vigor under UV-B radiation barely emerged in biomass, plant height, leaf area, and physiological metabolic index.
