The cupped-oyster species Crassostrea hongkongensis and *** are economically and ecologically important species native to the South and North coasts of China,*** ascertain the feasibility of interspecific hybridization between these two species,131 times 2×2 factorial cross experiments were conducted from May 2009 to December *** results revealed an asymmetry in fertilization;*** eggs could be fertilized by *** sperm,while the reciprocal cross did not result in *** success in C. hongkongensis female×*** male(HG) crosses were always lower than the two intraspecific crosses,and the HG larvae had a growth rate similar to the maternal species during the first several days of development because of maternal ***,genome incompatibility suppressed on growth rates of *** weakness of growth was observed at all times, whereas survival heterosis was fluctuant under diverse commercial culture *** analysis confirmed that the HG spat contained DNA from both species and thus were true hybrids. When hybrids grew to sex mature by one year culture,we observed that most of hybrids were generally functional sterile,but with a small proportion being *** analysis explicitly demonstrates that interspecific hybridization between *** and *** is possible in one direction and their hybrids are generally sterile,resulting in partial reproductive isolation in postmating and postzygotic isolation.

Interspecific hybridization can generate transgressive hybrid phenotypes with extreme trait values exceeding the combined range of the parental *** understand potential heterosis between Crassostrea hongjongensis and ***,three successful replicates of 2×2 factorial cross experiments were conducted between these two species on May 2011 in Shenzhen(Guangdong Province).The results revealed an asymmetry in fertilization;*** eggs could be fertilized by *** sperm,and fertilization success in *** female×*** male(HA) crosses were significantly lower than the two intraspecific *** larvae had a slower growth rate than these of two parental species because of genome *** weakness of growth was observed in larval stage,whereas spat growth heterosis was negative in Dalian but positive in Shenzhen during grow out *** results may be come from difference in temperature between South and North *** survival heterosis of hybrids was examined all the time excepted day 3,day6 and *** analysis by complex COI and ITS confirmed that the HA spat were true *** of hybrids was generally functional sterile,only a small of them was *** analysis demonstrates that interspecific hybridization between female *** and male *** may be a promising method for genetic improvement of oysters in South China.
