Objective To establish the local data on the growth of ear in Hong Kong children and provide a reference for the timing of reconstruction in unilateral *** We reviewed case notes of paediatric patients up to 18 years of age who had attended our Ear,Nose and Throat Out-patient Clinic from March to November *** recorded the pinna length of these patients and that of their parents,compared the patients’ear length against that of their parents,and investigated any discrepancy of *** We recruited 226 local individuals(139 males and 87 females).The patients were divided into different age *** means of ear length of patients were compared with the mean length of pinna of their *** of boys and girls are analyzed *** at 7-8 years old achieved 87.33%and 93.54%of their fathers’and mothers’ear length *** at 7-8 years old achieved 83.00%and 90.80%of their fathers’and mothers’ear length ***,the average ratio of the length of left and right ear ratio is 97.3%in all groups of *** In Hong Kong children,at the age of 7-8 the ear approaches the size of normal adult ear and is the feasible age with less asymmetry after reconstruction of the microtia.

In family healthcare nursing, the family system unit (i.e., a group in which the members, seen as a whole, mutually interact) is the target of care. As nurses tend to obtain family-related information from particular family members in the clinical setting, when assessing families, they often confront the issue of the differences between the theoretical level and methodological level. Although this issue needs resolving for evidence-based family nursing practice, sufficient research is lacking on the methodology related to family assessment. The present study aimed to clarify the factors that affected evaluation of family functioning among couples. Semi-structured interviews were conducted with 10 child-rearing families (couples) using the Survey of Family Environment (SFE) as a family functioning scale. Content analysis identified 12 factors that affected discrepancies in the couples’ evaluations and eight factors that affected agreement in those evaluations. These factors were classified into three categories: factors concerning family or family members;factors concerning questions related to the SFE;and factors concerning the view of the family as a whole. The results of this study should contribute to the development of family assessment tools and effective methods for evaluation of family care.

An identification problem is considered as inaccurate measurements of dynamics on a time interval are given. The model has the form of ordinary differential equations which are linear with respect to unknown parameters. A new approach is presented to solve the identification problem in the framework of the optimal control theory. A numerical algorithm based on the dynamic programming method is suggested to identify the unknown parameters. Results of simulations are exposed.

To explain the anomaly (τb ≠ τf) of the neutron lifetime τ in some experiments, in “bottle” τb and in “beam” τf, we resort to an anomalous form of the neutron na. This form belongs to one of two different states of the structure of the quark configurations making up the neutron (nucleon): first, an ordinary form Ψo, while the second is an “anomalous” form Ψa, difficult to detect and decay. If the ordinary configuration is present in everyone nuclear processes, to strong and weak interactions, and in diffusion processes, the anomalous form can emerge, in casual way and probabilistic, in some processes of fusion with production of neutrons and can be highlighted in some experiments as those in “bottle” and in “beam”, see the anomaly of the neutron lifetime. We show that the anomalous form Ψa can be highlighted in the coupling between a dipoles’ lattice of virtual bosons W and the neutron (nucleon) because the neutron into anomalous configuration does not decays. Finally, we interpret the anomalous neutron as a “dark” neutron, presenting, so, the dark matter as an anomalous form of hadron matter.

Based on the quadratic exponential method, this paper constructs two types of generators over finite field Fq, the digital quadratic exponential generator and quadratic exponential pseudorandom vector generator. We investigate the distribution of the sequence generated by the generators, and present results about their one dimensional discrepancy. The proofs are based on the estimate of certain character sum over Fq. Ift is the least period of the sequence and t≥q^1/2＋2c, then the bound of the discrepancy is O（t^-1/4q^1/8＋τ logq） for any ε 〉 0. It shows that the sequence is asymptotically uniformly distributed.

In this paper, we consider the problem for determining an unknown source in the heat equation. The Tikhonov regularization method in Hilbert scales is presented to deal with ill-posedness of the problem and error estimates are obtained with a posteriori choice rule to find the regularization parameter. The smoothness parameter and the a priori bound of exact solution are not needed for the choice rule. Numerical tests show that the proposed method is effective and stable.

In the world of the twenty-first century,as the bridge of exchanges in two different languages,translation plays an essential role in cross-cultural communication. Through the study of translation,people have come up with various ways of translation to cope with cultural barriers in communication. Foreignization and domestication are two most typical translation approaches. In this paper,the author analyses the differences between the two strategies and discusses the factors conditioning the choice of them influenced by language and culture. Based on the discussion,the author gets the conclusion that a dialectical view on the two translation strategies should be adopted in the translation process.

Measures of irregularity of a point set or sequence, such as discrepancy and dispersion, play a central role in quasi Monte Carlo methods. In this paper, we introduce and study a new measure of irregularity, called volume dispersion. It is a measure of deviation of point sets from the uniform distribution. We then generalize the concept of volume dispersion to more general cases as measures of representation of point sets for general probability distributions. Various relations among these measures and the traditional discrepancy and dispersion are investigated.

据统计显示,几乎百分之百的外语学习者手里都至少拥有一本该外语的词典,词典无疑是外语学习的最好老师。对于将英语作为外语的学习者而言,由于缺乏对该语言情景使用的本能反映与把握,尤其在文化习俗知识方面的匮乏,学习者迫切需要从词典中得到相应的语体语用信息。因此研究语体在词典中的具体运用,即语体标签,无疑就显得极为重要。随着英汉双语词典理论研究的深入发展,我们发现语体标签在绝大多数词典中都已得到重视和广泛使用,但是这种使用却显得欠规范而无序,且多数词典都没有给“style”以正确的定义。如果仔细研究几部国内外知名英汉双语词典的前言说明,词典语体标签使用的混乱现象也就突现出来了。这在很大程度上困扰了读者,并可能给读者造成使用上的误导。再者,词典学上关于语体标签研究的文献资料和数据也十分少见,这也给本文的研究增加了一定的难度。本文作者通过下述5个方面研究英汉双语词典中的语体标签:1)研究语体,主要涉及词典学中的语体和语体标签;2)对比分析8部国内外知名英汉双语词典的前言说明;3)问卷调查读者对英汉双语词典中语体标签的理解及运用;4)对比分析8部国内外知名英汉双语词典中词目词语体标注的现状;5)通过语料库帮助怎样分析和确定语体标签。作者尝试就英汉双语词典中的语体标签提出若干改进意见与建议,以供今后作进一步研究。
