To compare the maternal characteristics and perinatal outcomes between overt diabetes in pregnancy(ODIP) women diagnosed according to the 2-h glucose value during a 75 g OGTT only and those diagnosed according to fasting plasma glucose(FPG) and/or HbA1 c irrespective of the 2-h glucose value of 75 g OGTT. Methods This retrospective cohort study included women with a singleton pregnancy who are diagnosed with ODIP in the first affiliated hospital of Sun Yat-sen University between January 2014 and December *** women underwent FPG and/or HbA1 c testing in first prenatal visit to exclude pre-existing diabetes, and then underwent screening for GDM using 75 gram oral glucose tolerance test(OGTT) between the 24 th and the 32 th week of pregnancy. A diagnosis of ODIP was made according to modified American Diabetes Association criteria. Women with ODIP were divided into two groups according to the diagnostic criteria:(1) OGTT-2 h Group: ODIP diagnosed during pregnancy according to 2-h plasma glucose values exceeding 11.1 mmol/L during an OGTT only;(2) FPG/HbA1 c Group: ODIP diagnosed during pregnancy according to the value of FPG and/or HbA1 C, irrespective of the value of 2-h plasma glucose values during an OGTT. Data on pregnancy and perinatal outcome were extracted from the medical histories of women who gave birth in our hospital. Results Of 237 women diagnosed with ODIP during the study period, 85.2%(202/237) were divided into OGTT-2 h group, and 14.8%(35/237) were divided into FPG/HbA1 c group. Compare with FPG/HbA1 c group, the proportion of dietary intervention only is higher in OGTT-2 h group significantly(186/202 vs 11/35, P<0.001).There was no difference between the OGTT-2 h group and FPG/HbA1 c group in gestational hypertension or preeclampsia(P =0.544), cesarean section(P=0.195), primary cesarean section(P=0.304), preterm birth(P=0.140), macrosomia(P=1.000), shoulder dystocia(P=0.0.475). neonatal respiratory distress syndrome(P=0.393), and neonatal hypogly

Finding the correct nutritional intervention is one of the biggest challenges in treating patients with neurodegenerative *** general,these patients develop strong metabolic alterations,resulting in lower treatment efficacy and higher mortality ***,there are still many open questions regarding the effectiveness of dietary interventions in *** studies have shown that a reduction in calorie intake activates key pathways that might be important for preventing or slowing down the progression of such ***,it is still unclear whether these neuroprotective effects are associated with an overall reduction in calories(hypocaloric diet)or a specific nutrient restriction(diet restriction).Therefore,here we discuss how commonly or differently hypocaloric and restricted diets modulate signaling pathways and how these changes can protect the brain against neurodegenerative diseases.

The concept of precision nutrition was first proposed almost a decade ago. Current research in precision nutrition primarily focuses on comprehending individualized variations in response to dietary intake, with little attention being given to other crucial aspects of precision nutrition. Moreover, there is a dearth of comprehensive review studies that portray the landscape and framework of precision nutrition. This review commences by tracing the historical trajectory of nutritional science, with the aim of dissecting the challenges encountered in nutrition science within the new era of disease profiles. This review also deconstructs the field of precision nutrition into four key components: the proposal of the theory for individualized nutritional requirement phenotypes;the establishment of precise methods for measuring dietary intake and evaluating nutritional status;the creation of multidimensional nutritional intervention strategies that address the aspects of what, how, and when to eat;and the construction of a pathway for the translation and integration of scientific research into healthcare practices, utilizing artificial intelligence and information platforms. Incorporating these four components, this review further discusses prospective avenues that warrant exploration to achieve the objective of enhancing health through precision nutrition. © 2024 THE AUTHORS

Nonalcoholic fatty liver disease(NAFLD)is strongly associated with the metabolic syndrome and type 2 diabetes and independently contributes to long-term *** often asymptomatic but reversible,it would require population-wide screening,but direct diagnostics are either too invasive(liver biopsy),costly(MRI)or depending on the examiner’s expertise(ultrasonography).Hepatosteatosis is usually accommodated by features of the metabolic syndrome(***,disturbances in triglyceride and glucose metabolism),and signs of hepatocellular damage,all of which are reflected by biomarkers,which poorly predict NAFLD as single item,but provide a cheap diagnostic alternative when integrated into composite liver fat *** liver index,NAFLD LFS,and hepatic steatosis index are common and accurate indices for NAFLD prediction,but show limited accuracy for liver fat *** indices are rarely *** fibrosis scores are commonly used in clinical practice,but their mandatory reflection of fibrotic reorganization,hepatic injury or systemic sequelae reduces sensitivity for the diagnosis of simple ***-induced liver fat changes are poorly reflected by liver fat indices,depending on the intervention and its specific impact of weight loss on *** limited validity in longitudinal settings stimulates research for new ***,hepatokines,markers of cellular integrity,genetic variants but also simple and inexpensive routine parameters might be potential ***,liver fat indices lack precision for NAFLD prediction or monitoring in individual patients,but in large cohorts they may substitute nonexistent imaging data and serve as a compound biomarker of metabolic syndrome and its cardiometabolic sequelae.

Chronic pancreatitis (CP) is a progressive inflammatory disorder of the pancreas. It is predominantly idiopathic (with an unknown cause) in India and mostly due to alcohol in the West. Diabetes that occur secondary to chronic pancreatitis (T3c Diabetes) is often brittle, and is difficult to attain normoglycemia with conventional treatment requiring multiple doses of insulin. Mild and severe model of CP was induced in mice by repeated intraperitoneal injections of cerulein and L-arginine respectively with an intent to study islet dysfunction and develop therapeutic strategy in animal models of CP. dietary intervention of epigallocatechin-3-gallate (EGCG) was tested in both the models of CP for its beneficial effects on insulin secretory functions. Pancreata collected upon euthanasia were used to study alterations in the morphology of pancreatic parenchyma and inflammation by staining with H&E and fibrotic changes by Masson’s trichrome and picrosirius staining. Insulin secretory functions of islets were evaluated to test the efficacy of the dietary intervention on β-cell functions. Intraperitoneal glucose tolerance test was performed to monitor the glucose homeostasis before and after the dietary intervention. Both the models resulted in CP with dispersed acini, inflammation and fibrosis. The loss of acini and extent of fibrosis was more in L-arginine model. 2-fold improvement in glucose-stimulated insulin secretory functions of islets was observed with 0.5% EGCG dietary intervention in cerulein model of CP and 1.6-fold in L-arginine model of CP. A further improvement in insulin secretion by 3.2-fold was observed with additional dietary supplements like N-acetyl cysteine, curcumin in combination with EGCG. Our results thus demonstrate and highlight the therapeutic potential of dietary green tea (EGCG) supplementation in reversing islet dysfunction and improving glucose homeostasis in experimental chronic pancreatitis in mice.

BACKGROUND At present,the clinical mechanisms underlying precocious puberty remain unclear,making effective intervention for children experiencing this condition and rapidly progressive puberty *** To explore the effects of Zhibai dihuang pills and gonadotropin-releasing hormone analogue(GnRHa)on growth and ovarian function in girls with precocious *** The clinical data of 84 adolescent girls with precocious puberty and rapidly progressive puberty from February 2017 to August 2023 were retrospectively *** were divided into a control group and an observation group,with 42 cases in each *** control group received diet intervention combined with GnRHa treatment,while the observation group received diet intervention combined with Zhibai dihuang pills+GnRHa *** such as clinical efficacy,growth indicators,ovarian function,and adverse reactions were compared between the two *** The observation group showed superior clinical efficacy compared to the control group(Pintervention,no significant differences were found in growth or ovarian function between the groups(P>0.05).Post-intervention,the observation group exhibited significantly lower rates in growth,height,and bone age,along with reduced levels of progesterone,testosterone,estradiol,prolactin,luteinizing hormone,and follicle-stimulating hormone compared to the control group(P0.05).CONCLUSION Combining Zhibai dihuang pills with GnRHa and dietary intervention effectively improves growth,enhances ovarian function,and minimizes adverse reactions in adolescent girls with precocious and rapidly progressive puberty.
