Study on the resonance Rayleigh scattering spectra and resonance non-linear spectra of congo red-amikacin system and its analytical application

The interaction between congo red (CR) and amikacin (AMK) was studied by resonance Rayleigh scattering (RRS), frequency doubling scattering (FDS) and second-order scattering (SOS) combining with absorption spectrum. In a weak acidic medium, CR combined with AMK to form an ion association complex with the composition ratio of 1∶1 by electrostatic interaction, hydrophobicity and charge transferring effect. As a result, the new spectra of RRS, FDS, and SOS appeared and their intensities were enhanced greatly. The maximum wavelengths of RRS, FDS and SOS were located at 563 nm, 475 nm and 940 nm, and the scattering intensities were proportional to the concentration of AMK. These three methods have very high sensitivities, and the detection limits were 4.0 ng·mL?1 for RRS, 3.6 ng·mL?1 for FDS and 1.9 ng·mL?1 for SOS, respectively. At the same time, the methods have better selectivity. A new method for the determination of trace amounts of AMK with congo red by resonance scattering technique has been developed. The recovery for the determination of AMK in blood serum and urine sample was between 95.5% and 105.5%. In this study, the properties, such as enthalpy of formation, charge distribution and mean polarizability, were calculated by AM1 quantum chemistry method. In addition, the reaction mechanism and the reasons for the enhancement of scattering spectra were discussed.

Preparation and Characterization of Mg/Al/Fe Hydrotalcite with Superb Absorption Capacity toward congo Red

Mg/Al/Fe layered double hydroxide(MAF-LDH1) was prepared by solvothermal method with the sodium dodecyl sulfate as the template, and the ethanol system was benefit to growth of sample. The nature in the resulting MAF-LDH was investigated by X-ray diffraction, field emission scanning electron microscopy, Fourier transformed infrared spectra, thermogravimetric analysis, and N2 *** morphology of MAF-LDH1 is petal-like with the size of 400-500 nm and the thickness about 10-20 nm. The adsorption performance of the samples was evaluated by absorption of the congo red(CR) solutions. Compared with Mg/Al layered double hydroxide(MA-LDH), the maximum adsorption capacities of the MAF-LDH1 samples were 943.4 mg/g which was greatly enhanced. Furthermore, after seven cycling tests, the adsorption performance was still up to 90%. Theoretical calculation results revealed that the adsorption process was spontaneous and followed the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Freundlich model. This work provides a promising alternative strategy to enhance the adsorptive properties of hydrotalcite-like materials.

Comparison of the virulence plasmid genomes of two strains of Shigella which lost the ability to bind congo red

We determined; analyzed the Shigella flexneri serotype 5 (pSF5); S. dysenteriae serotype 1 (pSD1) virulence plasmid genomes. The total length of pSF5 is 136513 bp, including 165 open reading frames (ORFs). Of these ORFs, 133 were identified; 32 of those had no significant homology to proteins with known functions. The length of pSD1 is 182545 bp, including 224 ORFs, of which we identified 181. The remaining 43 ORFs were not significantly homologous to proteins with known functions. The insertion sequence (IS) elements are 53787 bp in pSF5,; 49616 bp in pSD1, which represents 39.4%; 27.1% of the genome, respectively. There are 22 IS element types in pSF5; pSD1, among which we report ISEc8; ISSbo6 for the first time in the Shigella virulence plasmid. Compared to pCP301, there are a large number of deleted genes; gene inversions in both pSF5; pSD1. The ipa-mxi-spa locus in pSF5 is completely absent,; the genes related to the O-antigen biosynthesis are partially missing. In contrast, the above genes in pSD1 are integral, with the exception of virF. The whole genome analysis of the two plasmids shows that the loss of genes related to gene invasion or regulation also obliterates the ability of pPF5; pSD1 to bind congo red (Crb). Whether these genes determine the Crb function requires continued investigation.

Outcome of Patients with Lower Limbs Deep Vein Thrombosis at the University Hospital of Brazzaville (The Republic of the congo)

The aim of this study was to describe the characteristics of patients with deep vein thrombosis (DVT) of the pelvic limbs at the time of diagnosis, and their course after hospitalization, in order to improve the management of DVT in our context. This was a descriptive longitudinal study, based on cases of deep vein thrombosis recorded between 1 January 2015 and 30 September 2018, in the cardiology and internal medicine department of the Brazzaville University Hospital Centre. During the study period, 4678 patients were hospitalized, including 52 with DVT. Thirty-three were reassessed. The frequency of DVT was 1.1% and the average hospitalization rate was 13.9 cases/year. The 33 patients were divided into 20 women and 13 men (sex ratio: 0.65). The mean age of the patients was 51.4 ± 17.8 years (extremes: 16 and 85 years). The main aetiological factors were cancer (19.1%), sickle cell disease (3%) and HIV immunosuppression (3%). The predominant risk factors were: prolonged immobilization (42.9%), pregnancy, long travel and obesity in the same number of cases (n = 3, i.e. 14.2%). The DVT involved the left pelvic limb in 75.8% of cases. Anticoagulants were administered in all patients, and compression stockings were worn in 97% of cases. The mean time to re-evaluation was 10.9 ± 9.4 months (extremes: three and 35 months). The mean measurements of the limb where the thrombosis had occurred at diagnosis and reassessment showed a significant difference. Venous Doppler showed compressible veins (60.6%), varicosities (36.3%), incompressible veins (30.3%) and thrombus (21.2%). Complications were: post-phlebitic disease (42.4%), death (21.2%), pulmonary embolism (18.2%), recurrence (18.2%). The DVT remains relatively rare, and its conventional therapeutic management is satisfactory. Systematic venous Doppler ultrasound reassessment should enable patients at risk of recurrence to be identified.

Quality Control of Juices Produced in Democratic Republic of congo and Marketed in Lubumbashi

The consumption of juice has increased sharply in recent years in Lubumbashi. The objective of this study was to determine the standards applicable to the types of juice for domestic consumption in Lubumbashi. A descriptive cross-sectional study on quality control (QC) of ten brands of juice selected from around thirty listed on the Lubumbashi markets focused on the determination of different physico-chemical and microbiological parameters. Physical analysis of the juices was carried out in the laboratory of the congolese Office of Control (OCC) in February 2019. It appears that five samples, or 25%, have a density lower than the ISO 9001 standard. All the samples have a Brix Degree in accordance with French standards applicable by the congolese control office. The chemical analysis shows that 4 samples, or 20%, have a pH 4, therefore higher than the prescribed standards. As for the titratable acidity and the formaldehyde index, all the samples have values within normal limits. On the other hand, the glucose level of all the samples is abnormally high (≥40 g/L). The sucrose level of 50% of the samples is normal (≥80 g/L). Microbiological analysis revealed that certain juices were without preservatives and harbored aerobic mesophilic germs (10%), lactic bacteria (20%) yeasts and molds (10%). It is urgent that the public authorities bring all the producers to respect the standards in order to protect the health of the populations.

Anti-Sperm Antibodies: Prevalence of Ig A and Ig G Positive Serology among Infertile Patients in Kisangani, Democratic Republic of congo

Introduction: Infertility in a couple is a stressful situation. Among the causes is the presence of antisperm antibodies that play a harmful role in reducing fertility and negatively influencing in vitro fertilization. The aim of this study is to determine their prevalence among infertile patients in Kisangani. Patients and methods: We conducted an analytical cross-sectional study in health facilities in the city of Kisangani. Of the 1379 patients who consulted for conception, 311 were tested for antisperm antibodies by ELISA. Results: Of the 311 patients, 121 tested positive (38.91%). Women were significantly more likely to be positive (p-value = 0.013). Ig G was positive in 32.48% of patients and Ig A in 10.93%. Age was a significant predictor of the number of positive patients (p-value < 0.001). Compared to patients of ≤30 years of age, having 31 to 40 years of age or 41 years of age and older increased respectively 2 and 3 times the risk of being positive. In secondary infertility, women are twice as likely to be positive. Conclusion: The prevalence of antisperm antibodies is very high among infertile patients in Kisangani with predominance among women. Older age increases the risk of positivity. This test should therefore be integrated into infertility investigations as often as possible.

Marfan Syndrome Complicated by Aortic Arch Aneurysm and Aortic Dissection: A Case Report from congo

Context and Aim: Marfan syndrome is a transmissible genetic disease of the connective tissue that is rarely encountered in congo and in sub-Saharan African countries. Its cardiovascular complications can be life frightening. The management of that disease is still limited in our country because of a lack of technical capacity in cardiovascular surgery. The aim of this clinical report is to show the interest of echocardiography and especially angioscanner as the main technique in the diagnosis of the severity of this disease, elaborate a literature review, but also to highlight the difficulties encountered in the management of that affection in our countries. Observation: The authors report the medical observation of a 48-year-old adult with a history of cataract of the left eye and a subluxation of the lens for which he underwent surgery in 2016, without any etiology being found. He is a smoker at a rate of 6 packs yearly. He consulted for progressively worsening dyspnea and constrictive mediosternal pain. The clinical examination revealed a moderate alteration of the general state, apyrexia, a blood pressure of 140/90 mmHg, a SPO2 of 97% in ambient air, a respiratory frequency of 32 cycles/min, signs of left ventricular insufficiency, a diastolic murmur of aortic insufficiency of intensity 4/6th, a long-limbed morphotype with a wingspan superior to the height and a kyphoscoliosis. Chest X-ray showed cardiomegaly with a cardiothoracic ratio of 58%, a highly dilated and uncoiled aorta, convexity of the left inferior arch, and venocapillary hypertension and a quiet alveolar-interstitial pulmonary oedema. The ECG was in sinus rhythm and showed a poor R-wave progression in anteroseptal leads. Echocardiography showed significant aortic root dilatation up to 72.6 mm and aortic regurgitation grade IV. Angioscanner showed a dissected aortic aneurysm and areas of emphysema located in the lungs. The medical treatment was palliative with beta blocker and angiotensin
