Layered double hydroxides are one class or kind of 2 D layered materials that are considered promising for use in the supercapacitor.Although there have been many studies on the structure,composition,properties,and electrode fabrication of layered double hydroxides,none summarize the effects of various modification methods on the structure and performance of layered double hydroxides in the supercapacitor.In a bid to fill this gap,in this review,we summarize the progress of modification methods such as exfoliation,intercalation,vacancy,doping,phase transformation,and composition regulation of layered double hydroxides in the field of the supercapacitor and put forward some opinions regarding the progress of research on the methods used in modifying the layered double hydroxides.

Proteomics as a tool to gain next level insights into photo-crosslinkable biopolymer modifications

The distribution of photo-crosslinkable moieties onto a protein backbone can affect a biomaterial’s crosslinking behavior, and therefore also its mechanical and biological properties. A profound insight in this respect is essential for biomaterials exploited in tissue engineering and regenerative medicine. In the present work, photo-crosslinkable moieties have been introduced on the primary amine groups of: (i) a recombinant collagen peptide (RCPhC1) with a known amino acid (AA) sequence, and (ii) bovine skin collagen (COL BS) with an unknown AA sequence. The degree of substitution (DS) was quantified with two conventional techniques: an ortho-phthalic dialdehyde (OPA) assay and ^(1)H NMR spectroscopy. However, neither of both provides information on the exact type and location of the modified AAs. Therefore, for the first time, proteomic analysis was evaluated herein as a tool to identify functionalized AAs as well as the exact position of photo-crosslinkable moieties along the AA sequence, thereby enabling an in-depth, unprecedented characterization of functionalized photo-crosslinkable biopolymers. Moreover, our strategy enabled to visualize the spatial distribution of the modifications within the overall structure of the protein. Proteomics has proven to provide unprecedented insight in the distribution of photo-crosslinkable moieties along the protein backbone, undoubtedly contributing to superior functional biomaterial design to serve regenerative medicine.

A Brief Review on Hydroxyapatite Nanoparticles Interactions with Biological Constituents

With the pursuit of new cancer therapies and more effective treatment to diseases in the last decades, nanotechnology has been an important ally for healthcare professionals and patients in critical clinical conditions. Nanomaterials offer an alternative way to deliver toxic chemotherapeutic drugs to specific biological tissues, specific cells or specific microbial beings, resulting in avoidance of strong side effects or resilience to effective drugs. Among these materials, stands out the hydroxyapatite nanoparticles, a ceramic class of calcium phosphates that present chemical and structural similarities with the mineral phase of the human skeleton’s bone matrix, resulting in important biological features, such as biocompatibility, osteoconductive, osteoinduction and osteoaffinity, which led to a lot of scientific researches to apply these nanoparticles for bone diseases diagnosis and therapeutics. Due to the hydroxyapatite biological activities and due to the possibility to promote chemical and physical modifications in these nanoparticles, they can interact with biological cells or microorganisms in different ways, resulting in multiple potentialities to be explored such as apoptosis induction to cancerous cells, osteogenesis promotion, cellular proliferation, angiogenesis and tissue recovery, in addition to promote cell adhesion and cell uptake. Furthermore, chemical and physical modifications, such as surface functionalization, dopant inclusions and radiolabeling process, allow scientists to track the particle activities in biological environments. In the last decades of scientific productions, the literature brings together important data on how hydroxyapatite nanoparticles interact with biological tissues and such data are crucial for the development of more effective therapeutic and diagnostic agents. Carbon Encapsulated Nickel Nanocomposites for the Cathode in Advanced Lithium Sulfur Batteries

Lithium sulfur(Li-S)batteries are poised to be the next generation of high-density energy storage devices.In recent years,the concept of“electrocatalysis”has been introduced into the field of Li-S batteries,and some transition metals have been proved to catalyze the electrochemical conversion reaction of sulfur species.In this study,carbon encapsulated nickel nanoparticles(Ni@C)with a specific surface area of 146 m^(2)/g are shown to play a definitive electrocatalytic role for the sulfur cathode.With Ni@C incorporated,the Ni@C/G-S electrode achieved a better electrochemical performance than the G-S electrode.Moreover,the reversible capacity and cycle stability were further improved through chemical modifications of the carbon shell.The influence of doping with different elements on the Li-S battery performance was also investigated in detail.Higher specific capacities of 1229 mA·h/g,927 mA·h/g,and 830 mA·h/g were achieved at 0.2 C,0.5 C,and 1.0 C for the N-Ni@C-G/S electrode.Besides,the B-Ni@C-G/S electrode possessed a best cycle stability.

C4′-modified ribonucleotides have recently attracted great interests.[1] C4′ modifications introduce stereoelectronic effect and thus modulate the conformation of the ribose, without losing the 2′-OH. For instance, we have synthesized C4′-Me modified rU（C4′-Me-rU） and found it is constrained in an unusual South conformation.[2, 3] Methoxy group generally render different electronic effects than methyl group. Herein, we synthesized 4’-OCH3-rU and introduced it into oligonucleotides based on solid phase synthesis（Figure 1）. The structure of 4’-OCH3-rU was studied by NMR, and the biophysical and biochemical properties of these modified oligonucleotides were examined.
