Analysis of the causes of primary revision after unicompartmental knee arthroplasty: A case series

BACKGROUND Unicompartmental knee arthroplasty(UKA)has great advantages in the treatment of unicompartmental knee osteoarthritis,but its revision rate is higher than that of total knee arthroplasty.AIM To summarize and analyse the causes of revision after UKA.METHODS This is a retrospective case series study in which the reasons for the first revision after UKA are summarized.We analysed the clinical symptoms,medical histories,laboratory test results,imaging examination results and treatment processes of the patients who underwent revision and summarized the reasons for primary revision after UKA.RESULTS A total of 13 patients,including 3 males and 10 females,underwent revision surgery after UKA.The average age of the included patients was 67.62 years.The prosthesis was used for 3 d to 72 months.The main reasons for revision after UKA were improper suturing of the surgical opening(1 patient),osteophytes(2 patients),intra-articular loose bodies(2 patients),tibial prosthesis loosening(2 patients),rheumatoid arthritis(1 patient),gasket dislocation(3 patients),anterior cruciate ligament injury(1 patient),and medial collateral ligament injury with residual bone cement(1 patient).CONCLUSION The causes of primary revision after UKA were gasket dislocation,osteophytes,intra-articular loose bodies and tibial prosthesis loosening.Avoidance of these factors may greatly reduce the rate of revision after UKA,improve patient satisfaction and reduce medical burden.

Background:Emergency department(ED)overcrowding is among the biggest and most important problems experienced by ED staff.The number of ED visits is on the increase and remains an unresolved problem.Emergency department overcrowding has become an important problem for emergency care services worldwide.There is a relationship between overcrowding and patients’negative experi-ences of using ED and therefore reporting reduced patients’satisfaction.This study aimed to identify the causes of ED overcrowding,de-termine the reasons for people’s use of EDs,and develop solutions for reducing ED overcrowding.Methods:This study used quantitative methods using a descriptive approach.The participants were patients who visited the ED.A questionnaire was administered to 296 participants between December 2021 and February 2022.The study included 5 different hospitals in Turkey.The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics.Results:This study identified the most common presenting medical problems in the ED and why patients used the ED.Reasons for using the ED included patients perceiving their condition as really urgent(62.8%),the ED being open for 24 hours(36.1%),and receiving faster care in the ED(31.4%).This study also developed recommendations for alleviating ED overcrowding.Conclusion:This study identified causes of ED overcrowding and some solutions for alleviating the issue.Emergency department over-crowding should be perceived as an international problem,and initiatives for solutions should be implemented quickly.

Genetic causes of oil-rich and oil-poor reservoirs: Implications from two Cenozoic basins in the eastern North China Craton

The Bohai Bay and Hehuai(southern North China) rift basins in the eastern part of the North China Craton are southnorth-adjacent. They have shown synchronous evolutionary processes, and possess generally identical superficial and shallow structural characteristics as well as similar basin areas. However, there is a large difference in the richness of oil resources between the two basins. The Bohai Bay Basin has extremely abundant oil reserves, while commercial oil reserves have not been found in the Hehuai Basin. The deep tectonic structures, magmatic activities, and modern and paleo-geothermal fields of the two basins are significantly different. Compared with the Hehuai Basin, the Bohai Bay Basin has a thinner crust and more complex structure with multiple low-velocity layers. It is also characterized by intense magmatic activity, high modern and paleogeothermal fields, frequent seismic activity, and active deep interactions, small effective elastic thickness of the isotropic lithosphere, and shorter balanced transformation wavelength of the lithosphere with a high likelihood of local compensation. The Hehuai Basin has a simple deep structure and homogeneous crustal composition, with a high likelihood of regional compensation. The characteristics of the deep structures mentioned above are generally similar to those of the southern part of the stable Ordos Basin, except for the smaller crust thickness. This indicates the presence of differences in Mesozoic destruction between the southern and northern zones in the eastern part of the North China Craton. The northern zone was subjected to significant destruction, while the southern zone was subjected to modifications, primarily in the form of local changes in the structures and/or properties of the crust or lithospheric mantle, with the overall structure and stability of the craton kept intact. Background:The coronavirus disease(COVID-19)has been identified as the cause of an outbreak of respiratory illness in Wuhan,Hubei Province,China beginning in December 2019.As of 31 January 2020,this epidemic had spread to 19 countries with 11791 confirmed cases,including 213 deaths.The World Health Organization has declared it a Public Health Emergency of International Concern.Methods:A scoping review was conducted following the methodological framework suggested by Arksey and O'Malley.In this scoping review,65 research articles published before 31 January 2020 were analyzed and discussed to better understand the epidemiology,causes,clinical diagnosis,prevention and control of this virus.The research domains,dates of publication,journal language,authors'affiliations,and methodological characteristics were included in the analysis.All the findings and statements in this review regarding the outbreak are based on published information as listed in the references.Results:Most of the publications were written using the English language(89.2%).The largest proportion of published articles were related to causes(38.5%)and a majority(67.7%)were published by Chinese scholars.Research articles initially focused on causes,but over time there was an increase of the articles related to prevention and control.Studies thus far have shown that the virus7 origination is in connection to a seafood market in Wuhan,but specific animal associations have not been confirmed.Reported symptoms include fever,cough,fatigue,pneumonia,headache,diarrhea,hemoptysis,and dyspnea.Preventive measures such as masks,hand hygiene practices,avoidance of public contact,case detection,contact tracing,and quarantines have been discussed as ways to reduce transmission.To date,no specific antiviral treatment has proven effective;hence,infected people primarily rely on symptomatic treatment and supportive care.Conclusions:There has been a rapid surge in research in response to the outbreak of COVID-19.During this early period,published research primarily ex

Past research on the causes and impacts of male school dropout is inconclusive.In explaining their findings,researchers have focused on the factors that give rise to this phenomenon and its impacts,but no clear light have been directed to solutions to remedy this situation.Dropping out of educational system is a serious individual,familial,educational and social problem.This is a very complex phenomenon influenced by a large number of factors.Dropout rates in Cameroon are still very high and this calls for the need to tackle this situation diligently by bringing out suggestions and solutions to remedy this situation from far evolving.One way to improve the educational system and ensure equal education for every child is to reduce dropout rates in primary schools.As a large study,the main goal of this research was to investigate the factors that influenced the increase in male primary school dropout in the BiyemAssi District.It also sought to find its impact to socioeconomic development of the community and therefore come up with some factors that might reduce the rampant increase of male primary school dropout.The rationale of this study is the researchers’ believes on the idea that keeping boys in school means more peace,thus community development.In order to achieve our results,six primary schools with high rate of school dropout in the Biyem-Assi District were selected and examined.Both qualitative and quantitative methods were used in data collection,these included group interviews,drafted questionnaires,observations,field notes and documents.Following our research findings and collection of data analysis,it was very glaring that many factors contributed to the increase in male students dropout in the Biyem-Assi district which included factors connected to teachers,parents,droppers,the government and society as a whole.As a result this resulted to negative impacts in the community such as increase in crime waves,drug trafficking,lack of security and a hindrance in economic development of the society.Therefore

Characteristics and Preliminary causes of Tropical Cyclone Extreme Rainfall Events over Hainan Island

The characteristics of tropical cyclone（TC） extreme rainfall events over Hainan Island from 1969 to 2014 are analyzed from the viewpoint of the TC maximum daily rainfall（TMDR） using daily station precipitation data from the Meteorological Information Center of the China Meteorological Administration, TC best-track data from the Shanghai Typhoon Institute,and NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data. The frequencies of the TMDR reaching 50, 100 and 250 mm show a decreasing trend[-0.7（10 yr）^（-1）], a weak decreasing trend [-0.2（10 yr）^（-1）] and a weak increasing trend [0.1（10 yr）^（-1）], respectively. For seasonal variations, the TMDR of all intensity grades mainly occurs from July to October, with the frequencies of TMDR 50 mm and 100 mm peaking in September and the frequency of TMDR 250 mm [TC extreme rainstorm（TCER） events]peaking in August and September. The western region（Changjiang） of the Island is always the rainfall center, independent of the intensity or frequencies of different intensity grades. The causes of TCERs are also explored and the results show that topography plays a key role in the characteristics of the rainfall events. TCERs are easily induced on the windward slopes of Wuzhi Mountain, with the coordination of TC tracks and TC wind structure. A slower speed of movement, a stronger TC intensity and a farther westward track are all conducive to extreme rainfall events. A weaker northwestern Pacific subtropical high is likely to make the 500-h Pa steering flow weaker and results in slower TC movement, whereas a stronger South China Sea summer monsoon can carry a higher moisture flux. These two environmental factors are both favorable for TCERs.

China's Growth Deceleration: causes and Future Growth Prospect

China's growth decelerated substantially after 2010. This paper argues that the main cause for the deceleration is external and cyclical, China has a potential growth rate of 8%, the economy has good investment opportunities and resources, and China is likely to achieve a medium-high growth rate of around 6.5% in the coming years. The paper also examines the various structural reforms that can help China to release its growth potential and complete the transition to a well-functioning market economy.

causes of severe neonatal hyperbilirubinemia: a multicenter study of three regions in China

Background Available evidence suggests that our country bear great burden of severe hyperbilirubinemia.However,the causes have not been explored recently in different regions of China to guide necessary clinical and public health interventions.Methods This was a prospective,observational study conducted from March 1,2018,to February 28,2019.Four hospitals in three regions of China participated in the survey.Data from infants with a gestational age≥35 weeks,birth weight>2000 g,and total serum bilirubin(TSB)level≥17 mg/dL(342μmol/L)were prospectively collected.Results A total of 783 cases were reported.causes were identified in 259 cases.The major causes were ABO incompatibility(n=101),glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency(n=76),and intracranial hemorrhage(n=70).All infants with glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency were from the central south region.Those from the central south region had much higher peak total bilirubin levels[mean,404μmol/L;standard deviation(SD),75μmol/L]than those from the other regions(mean,373μmol/L;SD,35μmol/L)(P<0.001).Conclusions ABO incompatibility was the leading cause in the east and northwest regions,but cases in the central south region were mainly caused by both ABO incompatibility and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase deficiency,and infants in this region had a much higher peak total bilirubin level.Intracranial hemorrhage may be another common cause.More thorough assessments and rigorous bilirubin follow-up strategies are needed in the central south region.

Deceleration of China's Economic Growth: causes and Countermeasures

China's economic growth has been declining continuously at a rapid rate since 2011. It dropped to 6.7% in 2016 by more than 3% from nearly 10% average growth rate during 1979-2010. As for its causes, there are different interpretations among Chinese economists. One of the interpretations, which is held by some scholars including Justin Yifu Lin, is that external and cyclical factors are the main causes for the decline. The author disagrees with this viewpoint and holds that the root cause of economic deceleration is the delay in deep institutional reforms. An inclusive economy and state coercive capacity are two essential ingredients for sustaining economic prosperity. China must further enhance economic inclusiveness, and accelerate its transition into an efficienc y? driven and innovatio driven economy through deepened comprehensive marketization reforms. Meanwhile, it should further strengthen the rule of law to build a limited government that is capable, accountable, effective and caring.
