We couple a simple model of quarantine and testing strategies for international travellers with a model for transmission of SARS-CoV-2 in a partly vaccinated population.We use this model to estimate the risk of an infectious traveller causing a community outbreak under various border control strategies and different levels of vaccine coverage in the population.Results are calculated from N¼100,000 independent realisations of the stochastic model.We find that strategies that rely on home isolation are significantly higher risk than the current mandatory 14-day stay in government-managed isolation.Nevertheless,combinations of testing and home isolation can still reduce the risk of a community outbreak to around one outbreak per 100 infected travellers.We also find that,under some circumstances,using daily lateral flow tests or a combination of lateral flow tests and polymerase chain reaction(PCR)tests can reduce risk to a comparable or lower level than using PCR tests alone.Combined with controls on the number of travellers from countries with high prevalence of COVID-19,our results allow different options for managing the risk of COVID-19 at the border to be compared.This can be used to inform strategies for relaxing border controls in a phased way,while limiting the risk of community outbreaks as vaccine coverage increases.

The insect midgut epithelium is composed of columnar, goblet, and regenerative cells. Columnar epithelial cells are the most abundant and have membrane protrusions that form the brush border membrane (BBM) on their apical side. These increase surface area available for the transport of nutrients, but also provide opportunities for interaction with xenobiotics such as pathogens, toxins and host plant allelochemicals. Recent improvements in proteomic and bioinfbrmatics tools provided an opportunity to determine the proteome of the T. ni BBM in unprecedented detail. This study reports the identification of proteins from BBM vesicles (BBMVs) using single dimension polyacrylamide gel elec? trophoresis coupled with multi-dimensional protein identification technology. More than 3000 proteins were associated with the BBMV of which 697 were predicted to possess either a signal peptide, at least one transmembrane domain or a GPI-anchor signal. Of these, bioinfbrmatics analysis and manual curation predicted that 185 may be associated with the BBMV or epithelial cell plasma membrane. These are discussed with respect to their predicted functions, namely digestion, nutrient uptake, cell signaling, development, cell-cell interactions, and other functions. We believe this to be the most detailed proteomic analysis of the lepidopteran midgut epithelium membrane to date, which will provide information to better understand the biochemical, physiological and pathological processes taking place in the larval midgut.

border area is not only an important gateway for inland opening-up,but also an important part of completing the building of a moderately prosperous society and optimizing national urban spatial pattern in China.Due to the location,natural resources endowment,and traffic accessibility,the urbanization speed is relatively slow in border areas.Therefore,it is a special area that needs to pay close attention to,especially under the background of the Belt and Road Initiative and China's regional coordinated development program.Based on the county-level data from 2000 to 2015,this paper tries to analyze the spatio-temporal pattern of urbanization in 134 border counties,and applies geographical detector method to study the driving forces of urbanization in border areas.Conclusions are as follows:(1)From 2000 to 2015,urbanization rate in border areas has been lower than the national average,and the gap has been widening.Some border counties in southern Xinjiang,Tibet,northeast of Inner Mongolia,and Yunnan,are even facing the problem of population loss.(2)In the same period,urbanization rate in the northwestern and southwestern border is low,while their urbanization rate grows relatively faster comparing with other border counties;urbanization rate in Tibet border is the lowest and grows relatively slowly;urbanization rate in the northeastern and northern border is slightly higher,but it grows slowly or even stagnates.(3)Transportation and industry are the important driving forces of urbanization in border areas,while the driving forces of market is relatively weak.And there are obvious mutual reinforcements among the driving forces,while the effort and explanatory power of resource force increases obviously after interaction.(4)Urbanization rate in the northwestern and southwestern border areas grows relatively fast,with industrial force and transportation force,market force and administrative force as the main driving forces respectively.Tibet border area has the lowest urbanization rate and growth rate,as the driving f

Background:In order to achieve the goal of malaria elimination,the Chinese government launched the National Malaria Elimination Programme in 2010.However,as a result of increasing cross-border population movements,the risk of imported malaria cases still exists at the border areas of China,resulting in a potential threat of local transmission.The focus of this paper is to assess the Plasmodium vivax incidences in Tengchong,Yunnan Province,at the border areas of China and Myanmar.Methods:Time series of P.vivax incidences in Tengchong from 2006 to 2010 are collected from the web-based China Information System for Disease Control and Prevention,which are further separated into time series of imported and local cases.First,the seasonal and trend decomposition are performed on time series of imported cases using Loess method.Then,the impact of climatic factors on the local transmission of P.vivax is assessed using both linear regression models(LRM)and generalized additive models(GAM).Specifically,the notion of vectorial capacity(VCAP)is used to estimate the transmission potential of P.vivax at different locations,which is calculated based on temperature and rainfall collected from China Meteorological Administration.Results:Comparing with Ruili County,the seasonal pattern of imported cases in Tengchong is different:Tengchong has only one peak,while Ruili has two peaks during each year.This may be due to the different cross-border behaviors of peoples in two locations.The vectorial capacity together with the imported cases and the average humidity,can well explain the local incidences of P.vivax through both LRM and GAM methods.Moreover,the maximum daily temperature is verified to be more suitable to calculate VCAP than the minimal and average temperature in Tengchong County.Conclusion:To achieve malaria elimination in China,the assessment results in this paper will provide further guidance in active surveillance and control of malaria at the border areas of China and Myanmar.
