The Structure of Insoluble Pectinates and alginates of Polyvalent Metals Based on IR Spectra Data

Using the method of IR spectroscopy it was ascertained that in pectinates and alginates of polyvalent metals the coordination bonds between cations Pb2+, Cu2+, Zn2+, Cr3+, Mn2+, Fe2+, Co2+, Ni2+ and the oxygen atoms of carboxyl and hydroxyl groups, pyranose cycle and glycosidic linkage of polyuronides, the water molecules are formed. It was also ascertained that Cu2+ cations form asymmetrical structures with carboxyl groups of polyuronides (monodentate ligands) and cations of other metals—symmetrical structures with carboxyl groups of polyuronides (bidentate ligands).

Shaping of metal-organic frameworks through a calcium alginate method towards ethylene/ethane separation

The separation of ethylene and ethane is a crucial,challenging and cost-intensive process in chemical ***-organic frameworks(MOFs)are a class of novel porous adsorbents used for the separation of ethylene/ethane ***,MOFs are normally crystalline powders that cause multiple problems,such as dust,abrasion and heat/mass loss,as well as significant pressure drops on the adsorption bed resulting in a sudden stop in *** solve these issues,we have prepared four different sphere-shaped adsorbents,including Mg-gallate,Co-gallate,MUV-10(Mn)and MIL-53(Al)using a calcium alginate method to achieve excellent ethylene/ethane separation *** performance of the sphere-shaped adsorbents has been validated using mechanical strength measurements,powder X-ray diffraction,scanning electron microscopy,thermogravimetric analysis,gas adsorption isotherms and dynamic breakthrough *** excellent mechanical strength of these sphere-shaped adsorbents meets the criteria for industrial application in gas ***,the energy consumption and operating cost will be further reduced in the ethylene production *** believe that this shaping method will open a prosperous route to the development of MOFs toward higher technology levels and their commercial application.

Effect of combination therapy with alginate dressing and mouse epidermal growth factor on epidermal stem cells in patients with refractory wounds

Background The aim of this research was to determine the efficacy of combination therapy using an alginate dressing and mouse epidermal growth factor （mEGF） on proliferation and differentiation of epidermal stem cells （ESCs） in patients with refractory *** Eighteen patients （12 males and 6 females,aged from 18 to 61 years （mean 36.4 years）） with various skin wounds,were treated by dressing changing for one *** wounds were located in the foot （11）,calf （3）,thigh （2）and forearm （2）.The patients were randomly divided into 3 groups：alginate dressing and mEGF （group A; n=6）,mEGF （group B; n=6） and control （group C; n=6）.Wound closure indexes were measured at 7,14,21 and 28 *** were harvested for pathologic examination,at 7 and 14 days following *** 10 （CK10） and cytokeratin 15 （CK15） positive cells were evaluated using the super-sensitivity （SP） immunohistochemical staining *** Wound healing was promoted in groups A and *** group A,the wound closure index was increased significantly （P 〈0.05）,and in one case the maximum cure area reached 102 *** examination identified a thicker epidermis,active angiogenesis and enhanced granulation in group A compared with groups B and *** the SP immunohistochemical staining technique,we showed that ESCs in group A were bigger in size and larger in number than in groups B and ***,there was a significant difference in ESCs proliferation and differentiation between group A and group B （or C）.Conclusions Combination therapy using an alginate dressing and mEGF shows increased proliferation and differentiation of ESCs in patients with refractory wounds compared with those treated with mEGF alone.

Temporal variation in chemical composition of Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) J.V. Lamouroux (Dictyotales,Phaeophyceae) from Red Sea Coast, Egypt

Objective: To relate the chemical composition of Dictyota dichotoma (Hudson) *** (D. dichotoma) to variation of water characteristics at Hurghada, ***: Sea water and D. dichotoma fronds were collected from Hurghada shores, during autumn of 2014. Water samples were analyzed and fronds of D. dichotoma were biochemically ***: Sea water was characterized with high levels of salinity, P and heavy metals but with low content of nitrogen. The confined nature and the high evaporation of the Red sea contribute to the high salinity while the mining and transportation of phosphatic ore in the nearby region contribute to the high load of P and heavy metals. With the progress of season from September to November, water temperature was markedly reduced whereas pH and ionic content of water was reduced to a lesser extent, with marked alteration in ionic composition. With the progress of season towards winter, there was marked reduction in mineral composition of the fronds, shift in frond composition in favor of carbohydrates at the expense of proteins, lipids and alginates;and shift in the pigment composition in favor of chlorophylls at the expense of carotenoids and ***: These facts point to active growth and photosynthetic activity during the cold period;that is, D. dichotoma is a cold water alga. D. dichotoma had moderate nutritive value, with moderate contents of carbohydrates, proteins, lipids and minerals. The mineral accumulation capacity of the fronds was more evident for N, P and K than for Ca, Mg and heavy metals.
