Intimal hyperplasia(IH)is a negative vascular remodeling after arterial *** occasionally occurs in elastase-induced abdominal aortic aneurysm(AAA)mouse *** study aims to clarify the incidence and histological characteristics of IH in aneurysmal mice.A retrospective study was conducted by including 42 male elastaseinduced mouse AAA *** IH incidence,aortic diameters with or without IH,and hyperplasia lesional features of mice were *** 42 elastase-induced AAA mouse models,10 mice developed mild IH(24%)and severe IH was found in only 2 mice(5%).The outer diameters of the AAA segments in mice with and without IH did not show significant *** mild and severe IH lesions show strong smooth muscle cell positive staining,but endothelial cells were occasionally observed in severe IH *** was obvious macrophage infiltration in the IH lesions of the AAA mouse models,especially in mice with severe ***,only a lower numbers of T cells and B cells were found in the IH *** cell-secreted matrix metalloproteinases(MMP)2 was highly expressed in all IH lesions,but MMP9 was only overexpressed in severe *** conclusion,this study is the first to demonstrate the occurrence of aneurysmal IH and its histological characteristics in an elastaseinduced mouse AAA *** will help researchers better understand this model,and optimize it for use in AAA-related research.

Angiotensin II （Angll） is the primary bioactive peptide of the renin angiotensin system that plays a critical role in many cardiovascular diseases. Subcutaneous infusion of Angll into mice induces the development of abdominal aortic aneurysms （AAAs）. Like human AAAs, Angll-induced AAA tissues exhibit progressive changes and considerable heterogeneity. This complex pathology provides an impediment to the quantification of aneurysmal tissue composition by biochemical and immunostaining techniques. Therefore, while the mouse model of Angll-induced AAAs provides a salutary approach to studying the mechanisms of the evolution of AAAs in humans, meaningful interpretation of mechanisms requires consideration of the heterogeneous nature of the diseased tissue.

Background:Porcine pancreatic elastase(PPE)is successfully used to induce abdominal aortic aneurysm(AAA)in ***,differences between mouse strains in susceptibility to PPE induction have been *** mouse is one of the most frequently used strains in China but whether it is suitable for induction of AAA by PPE application remains ***:PPE infusion(1.5 units/ml)in temporary controlled aorta was performed to induce AAAs in both C57BL/6J and Kunming *** saline(PBS)application was used as vehicle *** aorta diameters of all mice were measured at days 0 and 14 after surgery to evaluate the AAA ***:After 14 days of PPE or PBS infusion,all mice were sacrificed and aorta tissues were collected for histological staining *** the 14th day after infusion,PPE successfully induced aortic dilation in Kunming mice and typical AAA in C57BL/6J *** aorta diameter increased by 0.23 mm in Kunming mice after PPE infusion,while it was 0.72 mm in the C57BL/6J *** induced mild elastin degradation,smooth muscle cell(SMC)depletion and mural leucocyte infiltration in Kunming mice,but in PPE-sensitive C57BL/6J mice,it induced total loss of SMCs,elastin disappearance and diffused infiltrated leucocytes in aortic aneurysmal *** effects of PPE in inducing angiogenesis and upregulating matrix metalloproteinase 2 and 9 expression in Kunming mice were also weaker than that in C57BL/6J ***:At the reported dose of PPE,Kunming mouse is not as susceptible to AAA formation as C57BL/6J *** failure of PPE to induce AAA formation in Kunming mice may be associated to its inability to boost a strong inflammatory response.

Use of angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors or angiotensin receptor blockers increases the risk of postoperative acute kidney injury after elective endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair

Background: Endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm repair (EVAR) is the major treatment for abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA);however, EVAR still carries a considerable risk of acute kidney injury (AKI). The present study aimed to investigate the risk factors for AKI after elective EVAR ***: This was a retrospective observational study. Eligible patients who underwent EVAR from September 2011 to March 2019 in West China Hospital were included. The primary outcome was the occurrence of AKI within two days after EVAR, which was defined by the Kidney Disease Improving Global Outcomes Clinical Practice Guideline. Demographics, comorbidities, medications, laboratory tests, anatomical parameters of AAA, and relative operative details were collected as variables. Univariable and multivariable logistic regression analyses were applied to identify the risk factors among variables, and covariate interactions were further ***: A total of 679 eligible patients were included. The incidence of postoperative AKI was 8.2% (56/679) in the whole cohort, and it was associated with a lower 5-year survival rate (63.5%vs. 80.9%;χ^(2) = 4.10;P = 0.043). The multivariable logistic regression showed that chronic kidney disease (OR, 5.06;95% CI: 1.43-17.95;P = 0.012), angiotensin-converting enzyme inhibitors (ACEIs)/angiotensin receptor blockers (ARBs) (OR, 2.60;95% CI: 1.17-5.76;P = 0.019), and short neck (OR, 2.85;95% CI: 1.08-7.52;P = 0.035) were independent risk factors for postoperative AKI. In the covariate interaction analysis, the effect of ACEIs/ARBs use on postoperative AKI was similar across all subgroups (P > 0.05), thereby suggesting a robust effect of ACEIs/ARBs use in all patients undergoing elective endovascular abdominal aortic aneurysm ***: Postoperative AKI was associated with lower survival rate, and the use of ACEIs/ARBs was the only adjustable independent risk factor. Severe coronary artery disease in Chinese patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm： prevalence and impact on operative mortality

Background Little is known about the prognosis of coronary artery disease （CAD） in Chinese patients with abdominal aortic aneurysm （AAA）. The aim of this study was to evaluate the predictors of in-hospital all-cause mortality of severe CAD in Chinese patients who were hospitalized for AAAs. Methods From January 2003 to August 2009, 368 patients were operated on for AAAs. The clinical characteristics were retrospectively collected. The primary outcome was the in-hospital all-cause mortality. The clinical risk factors were subjected to a multivariate analysis to determine the predictors of in-hospital all-cause mortality. Results During their hospitalization, 23% （85/368） of the patients underwent coronary angiography, which revealed significant lesions in 93% （79/85） of the patients. In 25 cases, coronary artery bypass grafting （CABG） was performed before the AAA repair and in 16 cases of percutaneous coronary intervention （PCI） was performed. Ten patients with AAA alone died before discharge, and eight patients diagnosed with AAA combined with CAD died. There was no statistical difference in the postoperative death between the two groups. The logistic analysis showed that age 〉70 years and CAD （vessels ≥2） were the significant factors in predicting the adverse clinical outcome. Conclusions The prevalence of severe CAD in Chinese patients with AAAs seemed lower than those that were reported. Myocardial evaluation and subsequent revascularization before AAA surgery could improve the clinical outcome for these patients who have severe CAD.

Surgical Treatment of Small Intestinal Bleeding Caused by Arterial Gastrointestinal Fistula: A 2-Case Report

Background: This study aims to better understand diagnosing and treating arterial gastrointestinal fistulas. Methods: The diagnosis and treatment of two patients with arterial gastrointestinal fistulas were reported, and the experience with diagnosis and treatment was summarized. Results: In these two cases, both patients were admitted with bleeding as the primary complaint, both underwent emergency laparotomies, and both patients were diagnosed with small intestinal bleeding before surgery. the first patient died as a result of an abdominal aortic aneurysm rupture caused by chronic vascular repair and postoperative implant infection;the second patient underwent vascular repair on time, we treated him with third-generation cephalosporin, and after he was stabilized, we performed left total iliac stent placement and left internal iliac artery embolization;he had no fever after surgery, his incision was healed, and he was successfully discharged from the hospital. Conclusion: aortic gastrointestinal fistula is rare and has a high mortality rate, attention should be paid to distinguishing it from small intestinal bleeding. Timely diagnosis and rapid surgical treatment are keys to improving survival.

Cathepsin L(CTSL) is a member of cysteine cathepsin and has endopeptidase activity. CTSL exists widely in various tissues and cells and participates in protein degradation, extracellular matrix remodeling, autophagy and other processes. With the deepening of research, it is found that CTSL is related to the occurrence of cardiovascular diseases. This article introduces the research progress of CTSL in atherosclerosis, coronary heart disease,intimal hyperplasia, dilated cardiomyopathy, abdominal aortic aneurysm, hypertension, vascular aging, in order to provide research direction for CTSL.
