Two curved crystal spectrometers are set up on the ＂QiangGuang-1＂ generator to measure the z-pinch plasma spectra emitted from planar aluminum wire array loads. Kodak Biomax-MS film and an IRD AXUVHS5# array are employed to record time-integrated and time-resolved free-bound radiation, respectively. The photon energy recorded by each detector is ascertained by using the L-shell lines of molybdenum plasma. Based on the exponential relation between the continuum power and photon energies, the aluminum plasma electron temperatures are measured. For the time-integrated diagnosis, several ＂bright spots＂ indicate electron temperatures between （450 eV- 520 eV） ± 35%. And for the time-resolved ones, the result shows that the electron temperature reaches about 800 eV±30% at peak power. The system satisfies the demand of z-pinch plasma electron temperature diagnosis on a - 1 MA facility.

We present the first simulation results of a multi-shell target ignition driven by z-pinch dynamic hohlraum radiation *** radiation pulse is produced with a special z-pinch dynamic hohlraum configuration,where the hohlraum is composed of a single metal liner,a low-z plastic foam,and a high-z metallic *** implosion dynamics of a hohlraum and a multi-shell target are investigated separately by the one-dimensional code *** the peak drive current is 50 MA,simulations suggest that an x-ray pulse with nearly constant radiation temperature(-310 eV)and a duration about 9 ns can be obtained.A small multi-shell target with a radius of 1.35 mm driven by this radiation pulse is able to achieve volumetric ignition with an energy gain(G)about 6.19,where G is the ratio of the yield to the absorbed *** this research,we better understand the effects of non-uniformities and hydrodynamics instabilities in z-pinch dynamic hohlraum.

Within the magnetohydrodynamics （MHD） frame, we analyse the effect of viscosity on magneto-Rayleigh Taylor （MRT） instability in a z-pinch configuration by using an exact method and an approximate method separately. It is demonstrated that the plasma viscosity indeed has a stabilization effect on the MRT mode in the whole wavenumber region, and its influence increases with the perturbation wavenumber increasing. After the characteristics and feasibility of the approximate method have been investigated, we apply it to the stability analysis of viscous plasma where a sheared axial flow （SAF） is involved, and we attain an analytical dispersion relation. It is suggested that the viscosity and the SAF are complemental with each other, and a wide wavenumber range of perturbation is possible to be restrained if the SAF and the viscosity are large enough. Finally, we calculate the possible value of viscosity parameter according to the current experimental conditions, and the results show that since the value of viscosity is much less than the threshold value, its mitigation effect is small enough to be neglected. The role of the viscosity in the stabilization becomes considerable only if special techniques are so developed that the z-pinch plasma viscosity can be increased greatly.

Radiation uniformity is important for z-pinch dynamic hohlraum driven fusion. In order to understand the radiation uniformity of z-pinchdynamic hohlraum, the code MULTI-2D with a new developed magnetic field package is employed to investigate the related physical processeson Julong-I facility with drive current about 7e8 MA. Numerical simulations suggest that z-pinch dynamic hohlraum with radiation temperaturemore than 100 eV can be created on Julong-I facility. Although some X-rays can escape out of the hohlraum from z-pinch plasma and electrodes, the radiation field near the foam center is quite uniform after a transition time. For the load parameters used in this paper, the transitiontime for the thermal wave transports from r = 1 mm to r = 0 mm is about 2.0 ns. Implosion of a testing pellet driven by cylindrical dynamichohlraum shows that symmetrical implosion is hard to achieve due to the relatively slow propagation speed of thermal wave and the compressionof cylindrical shock in the foam. With the help of quasi-spherical implosion, the hohlraum radiation uniformity and corresponding pelletimplosion symmetry can be significantly improved thanks to the shape modulation of thermal wave front and shock wave front.

Spatially-resolved crystal spectrometers with a high spectral resolution are developed to diagnose K-shell x-ray radiation from z-pinch plasmas. These diagnostic apparatuses are successfully applied to aluminum wire array z-pinch experiments on QiangGuang-I facility, a driver with a pulsed current up to about 1.5 MA in 80 ns. Time-integrated experimental results show that the K-shell x-ray emission lines of aluminum z-pinch plasmas are dominated by line emissions from helium-like ionisation state. Bright spots that might have higher electron temperature or density are produced randomly in location and size along the z-axis during implosions. According to the experimental data, the electron temperature and the ion density are estimated to be between 250 eV and 310 eV, and between 7.0× 10^19 cm-3 and 4.0 ×10^19 cm-3 respectively, while the ion temperature is inferred to be about 10.2 keV, which is much higher than the electron temperature.

Two 50-μm Mo wires in parallel used as a z-pinch load are electrically exploded with a pulsed current rising to 275 kA in 125 ns and their explosion processes are backlighted using an X-pinch as an x-ray source. The backlighting images show clearly the processes similar to those occurring in the initial stages of a cylindrical wire-array z-pinch, including the electric explosion of single wires characterised by the dense wire cores surrounded by a low-density coronal plasma, the expansion of the exploding wire, the sausage instability （m = 0） in the coronal plasma around each wire, the motion of the coronal plasma as well as the wire core toward the current centroid, the formation of the precursor plasma column with a twist structure something like that of higher mode instability, especially the kink instability （m = 1）.

The resistance and inductance of a wire array during an implosion are very important parameters of interest to：researchers. A variety of inductances and resistances directly affect the kinetic energy and resistance heat energy coupled from a pulsed-power generator. In this paper, the inductance and resistance of a planar wire array during the z-pinch process are analyzed. The inductance is calculated from the data obtained by a time-resolved soft X-ray framed camera, while the resistance is calculated through the voltage and the current of the wire array load combined with the variety of the inductance. The results show that the resistance of the load increases with the development of the implosion, and reaches its maximum at 0.29 ± 0.16Ω near the pinched time.
