A nickel-1,10-phenanthroline complex supported on an octamolybdate, [{Ni(phen)2}2(x- Mo8O26)], has been hydrothermally synthesized with MoO3, H2MoO4, Ni(OAc)2· 6H2O and 1,10-phenathroline (1,10-phen) as raw materials. The crystals of the compound belong to monoclinic P21/n space group, a = 1.2952(2), b = 1.6659(10), c = 1.3956(12) nm, b =106.273(8)°, V = 2.8906(5) nm3, Z = 2. 5604 observable reflections (I ＞2s(I)) were used for structure resolution and refinements to converge to final R1 = 0.0414, wR2 = 0.0815. The result of structure determination shows that the compound contains octamolybdate possessing a novel structure type (named as x-isomer). The feature of x-[Mo8O26]4- is that it is composed of Mo6O6 ring and two MoO6 octahedra located at cap positions on opposite faces. The Mo6O6 ring contains two octahedral and four trigonal-bipyramidal MoVI atoms. Each x-[Mo8O26]4- unit is bonded with two [Ni(phen)2]2+ through terminal oxygen atoms of octahedral and neighbouring trigonal-bipyramidal Mo atom in the Mo6O6 ring. IR and UV-Vis spectra of the compound were measured and its electronic structure was studied by EHMO method.

Hydrolysis of p-Nitrophenyl Picolinate Catalyzed by Mono-and Binuclear transition metal complexes with Polyether Bridged Dihydroxamic Acid

Two polyether bridged dihydroxamic acids and their mono‐ and binuclear manganese(II), zinc(II) complexes have been synthesized and employed as models to mimic hydrolase in catalytic hydrolysis of p ‐nitrophenyl picolinate (PNPP). The reaction kinetics and the mechanism of hydrolysis of PNPP have been investigated. The kinetic mathematical model for PNPP cleaved by the complexes has been proposed. The effects of the different central metal ion, mono‐ and binuclear metal, the pseudo‐macrocyclic polyether constructed by polyethoxy group of the complexes, and reactive temperature on the rate for catalytic hydrolysis of PNPP have been examined. The results showed that the transition metal dihydroxamates exhibited high catalytic activity to the hydrolysis of PNPP, the catalytic activity of binuclear complexes was higher than that of mononuclear ones, and the pseudo‐macrocyclic polyether might synergetically activate H 2 O coordinated to metal ion with central metal ion together and promote the catalytic hydrolysis of PNPP.

transition metal complexes of meso-tetra(4-myristyloxyphenyl)porphyrin TMPPM [M =Mn, Fe, Co, Ni, Cu, Zn; TMPP=mesotetra(4-myristyloxyphenyl)porphyrin] have been synthesized and characterized by means of elemental analyses, UV-Vis spectra, infrared photoacoustic spectra, 1H NMR spectra, molar conductance and differential scanning calorimetry(DSC). The ligand and the Zn complex show liquid crystalline behavior. According to the DSC thermogram of the Zn complex, it exhibits a lower phase transition temperature -7.453 ℃ and a wide mesophase temperature span, 77 ℃.

Several new transition metal complexes using Schiff base containing pyridine and amide moieties (N, N'-bis(- salicylaliminoethyl)-2, 6-pyridinedicarboxylic amide, H4L) as the ligand have been prepared. Their compositions and structures are corroborated by elemental analysis, IR, UV, 1H NMR, DTA-TG and molar conductivity data. Their anti-bacterial activities have been studied by microcalorimetry. The result shows that the ligand and all com-plexes are potential anti-bacteria reagent and their inhibitory capacities are concentration-depended. The Mn com-plex has the strongest inhibitory capacity.

The aim of this work is to synthesize, characterize and evaluate the biological activity of 2-acetyl and 2-formyl-3-amino-1,4-naphthoquinone (L1 - L2) and their metal-Co(II), Ni(II) and Cu(II) chelates. The newly chelates were characterized by elemental analysis, IR, mass and 1HNMR spectra, thermogravimetric analysis (TGA) and biological activity. The antibacterial and antifungal activities of the ligands and its metal complexes were screened against bacterial species (Staphylococcus aureus, Bacillus subtilis and Escherichia coli) and fungi (Candida albicans). Ampicillin and amphotericin were used as references for antibacterial and antifungal studies. The activity data show that the metal complexes have a promising biological activity comparable with parent free ligand against bacterial and fungal species.

A new transition metal complex, [Cu（N-MeIm）4（BF4）2]（N-MeIm=N-methylated imidazoles, BF4= tetrafluoroborate）, was synthesized via the solvothermal method in ionic liquid. The ionic liquid acts as thermal decomposition reaction medium, soft temple agent and ligand compound. The central Cu（Ⅱ） ion is coordinated by four N atoms from four N-methylated imidazole ligands, and the four N-methylated imidazole rings are perpendicular to each other. The crystal structure of [Cu（N-MeIm）4（BF4）2] was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The results of thermogravimetry（TG） and Fourier transform infrared spectrometry（FTIR） analyses were in accordance with that of crystal structure. The complex showed strong ligand-based absorbance with maximum wavelength at 208 and 231 nm, which are attributed to π-π＊ transition of the N-methylated imidazole ligands.

The electrochemical properties of eight new divalent transition metal benzenesulphonate complexes with 1,10-phenanthroline in different solvents and supporting electrolytes were investigated by means of cyclic voltammetry(CV). Based on the CV data the influences of various coordination modes on the electrochemical behavior of the complexes were discussed. The diffusion coefficient D c and rate constant k s of those complexes in DMF systems were estimated according to CV and the results show that these processes were all quasi-reversible.

Six new transition metal complexes, [Zn（HBTC）（PYTPY）]n·n PYTPY（1）, [Cu（HBTC）（PYTPY）]n·n PYTPY（2）, [Co（HBTC）（PYTPY）]n·n DMF（3）, [Mn（HBTC）（PYTPY）]n·n DMF（4）, [Cd（HBTC）（PYTPY）（H2O）]n·2nH2O（5）, and [Co（HBTC）（PYTPY）（H2O）2]（6）,（H3BTC = 1,3,5-benzenetricarboxylic acid, PYTPY = 4＇-（4-pyridyl）-2,2＇：6＇,2＇＇-terpyridine, DMF = N,N？-dimethylformamide）, have been synthesized and characterized by elemental analysis, IR and X-ray single-crystal diffraction. complexes 1~5 all feature one-dimensional chain structures, and complex 6 exhibits a zero-dimensional structure. complexes 1~5 present three-dimensional（3D） supramolecular frameworks via π-π stacking interactions, whenas 6 has also a 3D supramolecular structure assembled by hydrogen bonding. Meanwhile, complexes 1 ~ 6 exhibit the thermal stabilities and photoluminescent properties.

A novel hydrated cobalt tetraborate complex NH4[Co（NH3）5（H2O）] [B4O5（OH）4]2·6H2O, was synthesized by the reaction of NH4-borate aqueous with COC12 and its structure was determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The crystal system of this complex is orthorhombic, the space group is Pnma, and the unit cell parameters are a= 1.2901（2） nm, b= 1.6817（3） nm, c= 1.1368（2） nm, α=β=γ=90°, V=2.4742（8） nm3, and Z=4. This compound contains infinite borate layers constructed from [B4O5（OH）4]2 units via hydrogen bonds. The adjacent polyborate anion layers are further linked together with the octahedral [Co（NH3）5（H2O）]3＋ groups through hydrogen bonds to form 3D framework. The NH＋ groups and guest water molecules are deposited in the empty space of this framework and interact with the layers by extensive hydrogen bonds. Infrared and Raman spectra （4000--400 cm l） of NH4[Co（NH3）5（H20）][B4O5（OH）4]2·6H2O were recorded at room temperature and analyzed. Fundamental vibra- tional modes were identified and band assignments were made. The middle band observed at 575 cm^-1in Raman spectrum is the pulse vibration of [B4O5（OH）4]2-.
