Carbocysteine: A New Way for stretch Marks Treatment

Background/Purpose: Although stretch marks (or striae) do not represent a medical problem, they are considered as the cause of psychological distress for women of any age that need to be treated. There are many cosmetic products or procedures claiming to improve the appearance of striae, but most of them are able to affect only striae appearance rather than physical characteristics or, even worse, they are provided with untoward effects. Our aim was to find a more efficacious and safe alternative to the existing tools. Methods: A randomized, blind observer study was conducted on 33 women to test the efficacy and safety of P-3059, a new product containing carboxymethylcysteine, Vitamin E and sweet almond oil. P-3059 was applied twice daily for 8 weeks and it was tested intra-subject in a split-body design versus an untreated area (negative control), comparing two symmetric areas with striae selected on the body/legs of each subject. The main study endpoint was the visual evaluation of striae, by means of the validated POSAS scale (consisting of two parts, OSAS and PSAS), at the end of treatment in comparison with baseline. Results: The comparison of the individual parameters of OSAS, showed significantly improved mean values for striae thickness, relief and pliability at the end of treatment (p < 0.05). The PSAS evaluation showed a statistically significant benefit in the improvement in thickness of the striae towards that of normal skin (p < 0.044). Conclusion: The new product based on carboxymethylcysteine leads to an improvement in the appearance and in the physical characteristics of striae, reducing their thickness and improving relief and pliability, as well as subjects satisfaction.

The accurate,continuous analysis of healthcare-relevant gases such as nitrogen oxides(NOx)in a humid environment remains elusive for low-cost,stretchable gas sensing devices.This study presents the design and demonstration of a moisture-resistant,stretchable NO_(x)gas sensor based on laser-induced graphene(LIG).Sandwiched between a soft elastomeric substrate and a moisture-resistant semipermeable encapsulant,the LIG sensing and electrode layer is first optimized by tuning laser processing parameters such as power,image density,and defocus distance.The gas sensor,using a needlelike LIG prepared with optimal laser processing parameters,exhibits a large response of 4.18%o ppm^(-1)to NO and 6.66%o ppm^(-1)to NO_(2),an ultralow detection limit of 8.3 ppb to NO and 4.0 ppb to NO_(2),fast response/recovery,and excellent selectivity.The design of a stretchable serpentine structure in the LIG electrode and strain isolation from the stiff island allows the gas sensor to be stretched by 30%.Combined with a moisture-resistant property against a relative humidity of 90%,the reported gas sensor has further been demonstrated to monitor the personal local environment during dfferent times of the day and analyze human breath samples to classify patients with respiratory diseases from healthy volunteers.Moisture-resistant,stretchable NO_(x)gas sensors can expand the capability of wearable devices to detect biomarkers from humans and exposed environments for early disease diagnostics.

stretch marks are cutaneous lesions occurring frequently in weight gain during puberty and early adult life. Previous studies showed that highest contractile forces were developed by fibroblasts from early stretch marks (SMF) compared to those developed by fibroblasts from normal healthy skin (HF) of the same patient. The aim of the present study was to evaluate a possible preventive effect of a topical preparation (containing vitamins C and E and botanical extracts including natural extract of Calendula, Aloe Vera and Evening Primrose Oil) on the formation of stretch marks using GlasboxPlus? device. In the presence of the tested mixture, a significant overall decrease in contractile forces of SMF was noted for 24 hours of measurements compared to control SMF and made it possible to restore their capacity to the same level as HF indicating a possible preventive effect of the tested mixture. The synergistic effects of these components are certainly responsible for the decrease in contractile forces of early stretch marks fibroblasts.

The Response to Arbitrarily Bandlimited Gaussian Noise of the Complex stretch Processor Using a Conventional Range-Sidelobe-Reduction Window

This paper derives a mathematical description of the complex stretch processor’s response to bandlimited Gaussian noise having arbitrary center frequency and bandwidth. The description of the complex stretch processor’s random output comprises highly accurate closed-form approximations for the probability density function and the autocorrelation function. The solution supports the complex stretch processor’s usage of any conventional range-sidelobe-reduction window. The paper then identifies two practical applications of the derived description. Digital-simulation results for the two identified applications, assuming the complex stretch processor uses the rectangular, Hamming, Blackman, or Kaiser window, verify the derivation’s correctness through favorable comparison to the theoretically predicted behavior.

Passive eye movements induced by electromagnetic force(EMF) in rats

Accurate information on eye position in the orbit is available from visual feedback,efference copy of the oculomotor commands and proprioceptive signals from the extraocular muscles (EOM).Whereas visual feedback and oculomotor commands have been extensively studied,central processing of EOM proprioceptive signals remains to be elucidated.A challenge to the field is to develop an approach to induce passive eye movements without physically contacting the eyes.A novel method was developed to generate passive eye movements in rats.A small rare-earth magnet disk (0.7 mm diameter,0.5 mm thickness) was attached to the surface of a rat's eyeball.A metal rod (5 mm diameter) wrapped with an electromagnetic (EM) coil was placed near the magnet (8-15 mm).By passing currents to the EM coil,electromagnetic force (EMF) was generated and acted upon the magnet and induced passive eye movements.The EMF induced well-defined passive eye movements,whose directions were dependent on current polarity and amplitudes and peak velocities were dependent on current intensity and duration.Peak velocities of the EMF-induced eye movements were linearly related to amplitudes,exhibiting main sequence relationships similar to that of saccades in awake rats and eye movements induced by electrical microstimulation of the abducens nucleus in anesthetized rats.Histological examination showed that repetitive EMF stimulations did not appear to result in damages in the EOM fibers.These results validated the EMF approach as a novel tool to investigate EOM proprioceptive signals and their roles in visual localization and gaze control.

Autonomous reinforcement learning agent for stretchable kirigami design of 2D materials

Mechanical behavior of 2D materials such as MoS_(2) can be tuned by the ancient art of kirigami.Experiments and atomistic simulations show that 2D materials can be stretched more than 50%by strategic insertion of cuts.However,designing kirigami structures with desired mechanical properties is highly sensitive to the pattern and location of kirigami cuts.We use reinforcement learning(RL)to generate a wide range of highly stretchable MoS_(2) kirigami structures.The RL agent is trained by a small fraction(1.45%)of molecular dynamics simulation data,randomly sampled from a search space of over 4 million candidates for MoS_(2)kirigami structures with 6 cuts.After training,the RL agent not only proposes 6-cut kirigami structures that have stretchability above 45%,but also gains mechanistic insight to propose highly stretchable(above 40%)kirigami structures consisting of 8 and 10 cuts from a search space of billion candidates as zero-shot predictions.

Role of mechanical stretching and lipopolysaccharide in early apoptosis and IL-8 of alveolar epithelial typeⅡcells A549

Objective:To investigate the effects of mechanical stretching and lipopolysaccharide(LPS) on the early apoptosis and IL-8 production of alveolar epithelial type II cells A549.Methods:The experimental matrix consisted of three integrated studies.In the first study,A549 cells were subjected to different stretching strain frequency and duration time to see the effects on the early apoptosis.In the second study,A549 cells were subjected to mechanical stretch(13%4 h, 0.3 Hz) and LPS(1 or 100 ng/mL) to see whether mechanical strain and LPS also have an addictive effect on the early apoptosis.In the third study to investigate whether this addictive effect could be induced by LPS and mechanical stretch on IL-8 production,A549 cells were subjected to LPS(100 ng/mL) and mechanical strain(13%.0.3 Hz,4 h).Real time PCR and enzyme linked immunosorbent assay were used to measure mRN A and protein level of IL-8.The early apoptosis was detected by flow cytometry.Results:Mechanical stretch induced the early apoptosis in a force and frequency and time-dependent manner.In the presence of LPS,mechanical stretch enhanced LPS-induced early apoptosis,especially in 100 ng/mL IPS group compared with 1 ng/ mL LPS and the control group.Mechanical stretch increased IL-8 production and enhanced LPS-induced IL-8 screation both in mRNA and protein levels.Conclusions:Mechanical stretch can induce the early apoptosis and IL-8 secretion.Mechanical stretch and LPS have an addictive effect on the early apoptosis and IL-8 production in alveolar type 2 cells,which is one of the mechanisms of ventilator-induced lung injury.

Recasting theory of elasticity with micro-finite elements

In the classical theory of elasticity,a body is initially modeled as a homogeneous and dense assemblage of constituent ＂material particles＂.The kernel concept of elastic deformation is the displacement of the particle that associates the current configuration with the reference one.In this paper,we exploit an alternative constituent ＂micro-finite element＂,and use the stretch of the element as the essential quality to recast the theory of elasticity.It should be realized that such a treatment means that the elastic body can be modeled as a finite covering of elements and consequently characterized by a manifold.The recasting of the elasticity theory becomes more feasible for dealing with defects and topological evolution.

The migration of multi-wave seismic data is aimed at obtaining the P- and S-wave imaging results of the amplitude preserving. But the P- and S-wave stretching effect produced by the reverse time migration of the elastic wave equation will not only reduce the vertical resolution of the migration results and the amplitude preserving of the large reflection angle. In this paper, the reverse time migration technique of amplitude preserving vector wave-field separating is used. Based on the analysis of the stretch mechanism and the influencing factors of stretch magnitude, the paper gave the stretch correcting factors. Then, realize the stretch correction method at the time that after the reverse extrapolation and before the imaging by solving the problem which is how to calculate the P-wave and Ps-wave propagation directions of imaging points at different times. The stretch correction method can improve the vertical resolution and amplitude fidelity of the imaging results and provide high fidelity input data for seismic data interpretation and inversion.
