Community structure of Lumbricidae in beech woodland of the Bieszczady National Park, Southeast Poland

As ecosystem engineers,earthworms play a key role in the soil ***,due to increasing anthropogenic pressure,soil organisms,including earthworms,are being threatened by habitat *** this study,we undertook a qualitative and quantitative investigation of earthworms of the family Lumbricidae in four types of Carpathian beech woodland(Fagetum carpaticum),characterized by their understory vegetation(I,*** drymejae;Ⅱ,***;Ⅲ,***;and IV,***),in the Bieszczady National Park(Eastern Carpathians,Southeast Poland).At each investigated site,soil monoliths(25 cm×25 cm×25 cm)were examined by hand *** were expelled from deep soil layers using a weak formalin solution(0.4%).Depending on the phytocoenosis,7 species of Lumbricidae were identified at each of the sites I,Ⅱ,andⅢand 10 at site *** IV(***)differed significantly(Pshannon-wiener diversity index(0.52±0.12).Although present three decades ago,the deep-burrowing species Octodrilus transpadanus and the litter-dwelling species Dendrobaena octaedra were not found at site IV in the present *** suspect that these two species may have been displaced by the invasive Lumbricus terrestris,which was not found at the same site in the *** observations warrant further investigation to verify the predicted effects of an invasive earthworm,including the potential effects on soils and other fauna and flora,which have been documented in numerous countries.

Enterobacterial Repetitive Intergenic Consensus-PCR(ERIC-PCR) is a molecular biological technology that can be used to study microbial community diversity and *** many reports, investigations of microbial diversity from environmental samples were based on the agarose gel electrophoresis(AGE) patterns of ERIC-PCR amplified *** is not a sound practice,since bands with identical positions can contain different sequences;thus,this practice could possibly exaggerate the similarities or diversities among *** mitigate this issue,we employed a denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis(DGGE) strategy to explore DNA bands with the same size, between ERIC-PCR profiles of *** software was used with shannon-wiener diversity index (H’) to analyze ERIC-PCR fingerprint profiles.H’ revealed that the microbial community diversity at DGGE was higher than with *** results of this study suggest that the ERIC-PCR assays with DGGE can provide a better assessment of electrophoresis pattern with regards to the structure of an intestinal microbial community.

Multivariate Analysis of Community Structure Variation of Plankton and Zoobenthos in Municipal Polluted River

[Objective] The plankton and macrobenthos samples in municipal polluted river were analyzed by different methods, so as to explore the method suitable for biological data analysis in heavy polluted area. [Method] shannon-wiener diversity index, cluster analysis of multivariate statistical analysis and MDS （Non-matric Multi- dimentional Scaling）analysis were used to analyze biological data of phytoplankton, zooplankton and Zoobenthos collected from the representative municipal polluted river in Pearl River Delta. The sediment samples were also collected to determine. Pb, Cd, Hg, Cr, As, Cu, Ni, Zn, as well as CODe, and NH3-N of porewater. Hakanson potential ecological risk index method was used to evaluate the ecological risk. [Re- suit] shannon-wiener diversity index analysis results can not effectively reflect the difference of pollution status of various stations in heavy polluted area; despite the presence of some problems, multivariate analysis method is superior to the shannon-wiener diversity index method in biological monitoring of heavy polluted river in the city. [Conclusion] The paper provided theoretical basis for biological data analysis in heavy polluted area.
