Aim: To evaluate the early and late long-term effects of vasectomy on the serum and prostatic fluid trace ***: In 37 vasectomized and 25 non-vasectomized (control) men, the Zn, Cd and Cu levels in the serum andprostatic fluid were measured by means of inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy (ICP-AES). Re-suits: No significant difference was found in the prostatic Zn, Cd and Cu levels between the vasectomized and controlgroup. The Zn level in the semm were significantly lower in the vasectomized men than in the controls (11.04 and 13.54 umol/L, respectively; P serum Cd and Cu levels were not significantly different between thetwo groups. Conclusion: Vasectomy may decrease the serum, but not the prostatic Zn levels. Its pathophysiologicalsignificance is worthy of further investigation.

With _D-proline as the reducing and capping agent, fluorescent gold nanoclusters were rapidly prepared(_D-Pro@AuNCs) within 10 min at 100℃. In the present of gold nanoparticles, the fluorescence of _DPro@AuNCs was remarkably quenched. Interestingly, based on the electrostatic interaction between anticancer drug Raltitrexed and gold nanoparticles induced fluorescence "turn-on" principle, a high selective assay for detection of Raltitrexed was established with the probe associating the fluorescence emission at 435 nm. The fluorescence intensity of _D-Pro@AuNCs linearly correlated with the concentration of Raltitrexed in the range from 5.0 mmol/L to 40.0 mmol/L(R^2= 0.999) and the limit of detection was 1.9 mmol/L. Further, after Raltitrexed was abdominal injected in rats, a metabolic approach was constructed with the prepared fluorescent probe. It showed great potential of AuNCs-based sensing probes for application in analysis of serum anticancer drugs.

In the present, investigation effects of sub-lethal dose of purified paper wasp Ropalidia marginata venom toxins were evaluated on important metabolic enzymes i.e. ALP ACP, GPT, GOT, LDH, and AchE enzyme activity in serum, liver, and gastrocnemius muscles of albino mice. Alkaline phosphatase was found to be increased up to 119.9% at the 6th hr of the toxin injection in comparison to control. This elevation may be due to cytolysis. Maximum increase i.e., 153.33% level of glutamate pyruvate transaminase (GPT) was found at 6 hrs of 40% of 24-h LD50 treatment while it was found to be 151.1% at 6 hrs of 24 hr 80% of LD50, venom injection. A significant elevation was observed in LDH activity in serum, liver, and muscles, while the activity of AchE was decreased in serum, liver, and gastrocnemius muscles of albino mice after injecting the sub-lethal dose of Ropalidia marginata venom. This increase in the activity of LDH produces liver damage, massive disintegration and necrosis of hepatic cells. This elevation in LDH level led to a significant increase in the glucose catabolism and elevated oxidative stress in muscle and liver cells. It also displays insufficient oxygen supply and consequently leads to cell death. In experimental animals, venom toxin treatment decreased AchE level, and animals showed muscular paralysis. When mice were treated with 40% and 80% of 24-h LD50 of purified venom caused a significant (p < 0.05) elevation in the level of ACP, GOT, GPT, and LDH while the reduction in ALP and AChE level. Present study will be useful in the development of prototypes for study of pharmacological and therapeutic effects of various venom toxins. For this purpose structure activity relationship of enzyme and venom toxin, its due interaction to various metabolic enzymes and receptors must be explored.

Objective: Multidetector-row computed tomography(MDCT) and serum tumor biomarkers are commonly used to evaluate the preoperative lymph node metastasis and the clinical staging of gastric cancer(GC). This study intends to evaluate the clinical predictive value of MDCT and serum tumor biomarkers in lymph node metastasis of ***: The clinicopathologic data of 445 GC patients who underwent radical gastrectomy were retrospectively analyzed to evaluate the diagnostic value of MDCT and serum tumor biomarkers in lymph node metastatic staging of GC before ***: With the multinomial logistic regression analysis, the independent relative factors of lymph node metastasis of GC were identified as tumor size, depth of tumor invasion, vessel invasion, vascular embolus, and soft tissue invasion. The optimal critical value of the short diameter of lymph nodes detected by MDCT scanning for evaluation of preoperative lymph node metastasis was 6.0 mm, with 75.7% as predictive accuracy of lymph node metastasis compared to the postoperative pathological results of GC patients. In addition, the critical value of the short diameter of lymph nodes combined with serum tumor biomarkers [including carbohydrate antigen(CA)-724 and CA-199] could show an enhancement of predictive sensitivity of lymph node metastasis(up to 89.3%) before ***: MDCT combined with serum tumor biomarkers should be adopted to improve preoperative sensitivity and accuracy of lymph node metastasis for GC patients.

AIM To investigate the value of multiparameter joint analysis in the early diagnosis of gastric cancer(GC) in clinical *** Concentrations of CEA, CA724 and three kinds of cytokines(TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-8) in 176 GC patients, 117 atypical hyperplasia patients, and 204 healthy control individuals were used for building the diagnostic model, then 58 GC patients, 41 atypical hyperplasia patients, and 66 healthy control individuals were enrolled independently. The joints of the indicators were analyzed by binary logistic regression analysis *** For discriminating the healthy control group and the GC group, IL-6 had the best diagnostic value, and the area under curve(AUC) of joint analysis was 0.95(0.93-0.97). For the early stage and advanced stage GC, the AUC were 0.95(0.92-0.98) and 0.95(0.92-0.97). For discriminating the atypical hyperplasia group and GC group, CA724 had the best diagnostic value, and the AUC of joint analysis was 0.97(0.95-0.99). For the early stage and advanced stage GC groups, the AUC were 0.98(0.96-0.99) and 0.96(0.94-0.98). After evaluation, for discriminating the GC, early stage GC and advanced cancer group from the healthy control group, the diagnostic sensitivity was 89.66%, 84.21% and 92.31%, respectively, and the specificity was 92.42%, 90.91% and 90.91%. For discriminating the GC, early stage GC and advanced cancer groups from the atypical hyperplasia group, the diagnostic sensitivity was 87.93%, 78.95% and 92.31%, respectively, and the specificity was 87.80%, 85.37% and 90.24%.CONCLUSION We have built a diagnostic model including CEA, CA724, IL-6, IL-8, and TNF-α. It may provide potential assistance as a screening method for the early detection of GC.

BACKGROUND The prognosis of hepatocellular carcinoma(HCC)patients remains poor despite advances in treatment modalities and *** is important to identify useful markers for the early detection of HCC in *** antigen(PNA),originally reported in a rat carcinogenesis model,is increased in the tissues and serum of HCC *** To determine the diagnostic value of PNA for discriminating HCC and to characterize PNA-positive *** Patients with hepatitis C virus(HCV)-related hepatic disorders were prospectively enrolled in this study,which included patients with hepatitis,with cirrhosis,and with HCC.A novel enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay was developed to measure serum PNA concentrations in *** serum PNA concentrations were measured in 89 controls and 141 patients with HCV infections(50 hepatitis,44 cirrhosis,and 47 HCC).Compared with control and non-HCC patients,PNA was increased in *** receiver operating characteristic curve analysis,the sensitivity of PNA was similar to the HCC markers des-γ-carboxy-prothrombin(DCP)andα-fetoprotein(AFP),but the specificity of PNA was *** was no correlation between PNA and AFP and a significant but weak correlation between PNA and DCP in HCC ***,the correlations with biochemical markers were completely different for PNA,AFP,and DCP;glutamyl transpeptidase was highly correlated with PNA,but not with AFP or DCP,and was significantly higher in PNA-high patients than in PNA-low patients with HCV-related *** PNA may have the potential to diagnose a novel type of HCC in which glutamyl transpeptidase is positively expressed but AFP or DCP is weakly or negatively expressed.

AIM: To investigate serum levels of soluble CD146(s CD146) and vascular endothelial growth factor receptor 2(VEGFR2) in patients with age-related macular degeneration(AMD). METHODS: Eighty-eight patients with exudative AMD and 45 sex-and age-matched healthy controls were enrolled in this study conducted in China. serum samples was obtained from the patients with exudative AMD and from the controls. serum sCD146 and VEGFR2 protein levels were measured using an enzyme-linked immunosorbent ***: We found that serum sCD146 and VEGFR2 protein levels were significantly higher in the patients with exudative AMD group than in the controls(t=3.859, Pserum sCD146 levels were significantly higher in patients with classic choroidal neovascularization(CNV) than in those with occult CNV(t=9.899, Pserum sCD146 level increases and may be a biomarker for exudative AMD.
