Simulating land-use changes by incorporating spatial autocorrelation and self-organization in CLUE-S modeling： a case study in Zengcheng District, Guangzhou, China

The Conversion of Land Use and its Effects at Small regional extent (CLUE-S), which is a widely used model for land-use simulation, utilizes logistic regression to estimate the relationships between land use and its drivers, and thus, predict land-use change probabilities. However, logistic regression disregards possible spatial autocorrelation and self-organization in land-use data. Autologistic regression can depict spatial autocorrelation but cannot address self-organization, while logistic regression by considering only self-organization (NElogistic regression) fails to capture spatial autocorrelation. Therefore, this study developed a regression (NE-autologistic regression) method, which incorporated both spatial autocorrelation and self-organization, to improve CLUE-S. The Zengcheng District of Guangzhou, China was selected as the study area. The land-use data of 2001, 2005, and 2009, as well as 10 typical driving factors, were used to validate the proposed regression method and the improved CLUE-S model. Then, three future land-use scenarios in 2020: the natural growth scenario, ecological protection scenario, and economic development scenario, were simulated using the improved model. Validation results showed that NE-autologistic regression performed better than logistic regression, autologistic regression, and NE-logistic regression in predicting land-use change probabilities. The spatial allocation accuracy and kappa values of NE-autologistic-CLUE-S were higher than those of logistic-CLUE-S, autologistic-CLUE-S, and NE-logistic-CLUE-S for the simulations of two periods, 2001–2009 and 2005–2009, which proved that the improved CLUE-S model achieved the best simulation and was thereby effective to a certain extent. The scenario simulation results indicated that under all three scenarios, traffic land and residential/industrial land would increase, whereas arable land and unused land would decrease during 2009–2020. Researches on organization and structure in complex systems are academic and industrial fronts in modern sciences. Though many theories are tentatively proposed to analyze complex systems, we still lack a rigorous theory on them. Complex systems possess various degrees of freedom, which means that they should exhibit all kinds of structures. However, complex systems often show similar patterns and structures. Then the question arises why such similar structures appear in all kinds of complex systems. The paper outlines a theory on freedom degree compression and the existence of hierarchical self-organization for all complex systems is found. It is freedom degree compression and hierarchical self-organization that are responsible for the existence of these similar patterns or structures observed in the complex systems.

Industrial and academic interest in how to effectively manage technology resources is increasing as it becomes more and more important.Effective managing of technology resources depends on technology management system,and thus understanding how such system evolves becomes an ongoing research topic.Based on the self-organization theory,this paper constructs an evolution model of technology management system.The simulation results show that the evolution of each of the technology management subsystem is affected by the knowledge growth rate of its own,and it is also affected by the coupling and synergy relationship with other subsystems.Moreover,the coupling and synergy relationship can make the speed of evolution higher than the knowledge growth rate of the subsystem itself.

Influence of Capping Ligands on the self-organization of Gold Nanoparticles into Superlattices from CTAB Reverse Micelles

Gold nanoparticles with size 3-10 nm (diameter) were prepared by thereduction of HAuCl_4 in a CTAB/octane + 1-butanol/H_2O reverse micelle system using NaBH_4 as thereducing agent. The as-formed gold nanoparticle colloid was characterized by UV/vis absorptionspectrum and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). Various capping ligands, such as alkyl-thiolswith different chain length and shape, trioctylphosphine (TOP), and pyridine are used to passivatethe gold nanoparticles for the purpose of self-organization into superstructures. It is shown thatthe ligands have a great influence on the self-organization of gold nanoparticles intosuper-lattices, and do-decanethiol C_(12)H_(25)SH is confirmed to be the best ligand for theserf-organization. self-organization of C_(12)H_(25)SH-capped gold nanoparticles into 1D, 2D and 3Dsuperlattices has been observed on the carbon-coated copper grid by TEM without using any selectiveprecipitation process.

In networked control systems （NCS）,the control performance depends on not only the control algorithm but also the communication protocol stack.The performance degradation introduced by the heterogeneous and dynamic communication environment has intensified the need for the reconfigurable protocol stack.In this paper,a novel architecture for the reconfigurable protocol stack is proposed,which is a unified specification of the protocol components and service interfaces supporting both static and dynamic reconfiguration for existing industrial communication standards.Within the architecture,a triple-level self-organization structure is designed to manage the dynamic reconfiguration procedure based on information exchanges inside and outside the protocol stack.Especially,the protocol stack can be self-adaptive to various environment and system requirements through the reconfiguration of working mode,routing and scheduling table.Finally,the study on the protocol of dynamic address management is conducted for the system of controller area network （CAN）.The results show the efficiency of our self-organizing architecture for the implementation of a reconfigurable protocol stack.

Laser-induced self-organization in Se–Te–Sn–Cd glassy semiconductor for developing novel light-sensing dielectrics

The laser-induced effects on dielectric properties of chalcogenide glass(Ch Gs) have been present in a glassy system of Se–Te–Sn–Cd for possible applications in optics and optoelectronics such as light-controlled capacitance-based touch displays. The temperature/frequency dependence of dielectric relaxation before and after laser exposure was investigated by using laser sources of different wavelengths(405 nm, 532 nm, 690 nm, and 785 nm). The result showed the presence of laser-induced residual effects on dielectric properties(dielectric constant/loss and a.c. conductivity) after the exposure of continuous-wave laser sources of chosen wavelengths.Further analysis indicates that the modification in the meta-stable state due to self-organization is the feasible mechanism of observed persistent light-sensing effects.

self-organization of PbS into quantum dots superlattices is demonstrated for the first lime, and hexaplanar colloidal crystals 1-10 mu m in size made from PbS quantum dots 4nm in diameter are shown in Transmission Electron Microscope (TEM) micrograph, and the inner structures of the superlattices can be seen from the High Resolution Transmission Electron Microscope (HRTEM).

Typhoon Vortex self-organization in a Baroclinic Environment

self-organization of typhoon vortex in a baroclinic environment is studied based on eight numerical experiments with the fifth-generation Pennsylvania State University/National Center for Atmospheric Research （PSU/NCAR） Mesoscale Model （MM5）. The results show that, when there are only two 400-km-away mesoscale axisymmetric vortices with a radius of 500 km in the initial field, the two vortices move away from each other during co-rotating till the distance between them greater than a critical distance named co-rotating critical distance. Then, they stop co-rotating. The situation is changed when a small vortex with a radius of 80 kin is introduced in between the two vortices in the initial field, with the two initially separated vortices approaching each other during their co-rotation, and finally self-organizing into a typhoon-like vortex consisting of an inner core and spiral bands. This result supports both Zhou Xiuji＇s view in 1994 and the studies in the barotropic framework concerning the interactions between the same and different scales of vortices. Six other experiments are carried out to study the effects of the initial vortex parameters, including the initial position of the small-scale vortex, the distance and intensity of the initially axisymmetric binary mesoscale vortices. It is found that the distance between the initial axisymmetrie mesoscale vortices is the most important parameter that influences the self-organizing process of the final typhoon-like vortex. This conclusion is similar to that obtained from barotropical model experiments.

self-organization model on receptive field of neuron with asymmetric time window of synaptic modification

The spatial-temporal response properties of some simple neurons in visual pathway arise basically prior to birth. In the absence of visual experience, how do these neurons develop in visual system? Based on Wimbauer network with delay, a four-layer feed-forward network model is proposed, which is characterized by modifying the Hebb learning rule through introducing the asymmetric time window of synaptic modification found recently in neurobiology. The model can not only generate by self-organization more diversified spatial-temporal response characteristics of neu-ronal receptive field than earlier models but also provide some explanations for the possible mechanism underlying the development of receptive fields of contrast polarity sensitive neurons found in visual system of vertebrate. Thus the proposed model may be more widely applicable than Linsker model and Wimbauer model.

A LOCAL DYNAMIC CLUSTER self-organization ALGORITHM IN WIRELESS SENSOR NETWORKS FOR RAINFALL MONITORING

Wireless Sensor Networks for Rainfall Monitoring (RM-WSNs) is a sensor network for the large-scale regional and moving rainfall monitoring,which could be controlled deployment. Delivery delay and cross-cluster calculation leads to information inaccuracy by the existing dynamic collabo-rative self-organization algorithm in WSNs. In this letter,a Local Dynamic Cluster self-organization algorithm (LDCS) is proposed for the large-scale regional and moving target monitoring in RM-WSNs. The algorithm utilizes the resource-rich node in WSNs as the cluster head,which processes target information obtained by sensor nodes in cluster. The cluster head shifts with the target moving in chance and re-groups a new cluster. The target information acquisition is limited in the dynamic cluster,which can reduce information across-clusters transfer delay and improve the real-time of information acquisition. The simulation results show that,LDCS can not only relieve the problem of "too frequent leader switches" in IDSQ,also make full use of the history monitoring information of target and con-tinuous monitoring of sensor nodes that failed in DCS.
