With the wide application of thrombolytic drugs and the advancement of endovascular therapeutic techniques, the recanalization treatment of acute artery occlusion in ischemic stroke (IS) has made a leap forward, but ischemic brain tissues still face ischemia-reperfusion injury after recanalization. Nowadays, effective neurological protective agents still cannot completely resist the multiple damages of ischemia-reperfusion injury. As an iron-dependent mode of programmed cell death, ferroptosis occupies an important position in ischemia-reperfusion injury. selenium plays a unique protective role in ischemia-reperfusion injury as an active site element in the center of glutathione peroxidase. Therefore, the study mainly aims to review the protective role of selenium in IS and the related mechanisms, as well as the effect of selenium on the risk factors of IS.

Accelerating the(NH_4)_(2)SO_(3) oxidation gives rise to the reclaiming of byproduct, while there are secondary environmental risks from reduction of the coexisted selenium species by sulfite. In this study, a bi-functional Co-SBA-15-SH, were synthesized through Co impregnation and sulfhydryl(-SH) decoration, which can simultaneously uptake Se and accelerate sulfite oxidation efficiently. Meanwhile, the adsorption kinetics and migration mechanism of Se species were revealed through characterization and density functional calculations, with maximum adsorption capacity of 223 mg/g. The inhibition of Se~0 re-emission and poisonous effect of Se on sulfite oxidation was also investigated. Using the findings of this study, the ammonia desulfurization can be improved by enabling purification of the byproduct and lowering the toxicity of effluent by removing toxic pollutants.

The modification of polysulfide electrolyte with additives has been demonstrated as an effective way to improve the photovoltaic performance of quantum dot-sensitized solar cells(QDSCs). Most of these additives can inhibit the charge recombination processes at photoanode/electrolyte interface and favor the improvement of V oc of cell devices. Herein, we showed that the incorporation of elemental selenium(Se) in polysulfide electrolyte to form polyselenosulfide species can notably improve the performance of QDSCs. Unlike previous reports, we present here an integrated investigation of the effects of polyselenosulfide species in polysulfide electrolyte on the photovoltaic performance of QDSCs from both of the photoanode and counter electrode(CE) aspects. Electrochemical impedance spectroscopy(IS) and opencircuit voltage-decay(OCVD) measurements demonstrated that the introduction of Se into polysulfide electrolyte can not only retard charge recombination at photoanode/electrolyte interface, but also reduce the charge transfer resistance at CE/electrolyte interface, resulting in the improvement of J sc and FF values. Consequently, the average efficiency of Zn-Cu-In-Se QDSCs was improved from 9.26% to 9.78% under AM 1.5 G full one sun illumination.

Sepsis is a life-threatening organ dysfunction caused by the dysregulated response of the host to an infection, and treatments are limited. Recently, a novel selenium source, selenium-enriched Cardamine violifolia(SEC) has attracted much attention due to its anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, but little is known about its role in the treatment of sepsis. Here, we found that SEC alleviated LPS-induced intestinal damage, as indicated by improved intestinal morphology, and increased disaccharidase activity and tight junction protein expression. Moreover, SEC ameliorated the LPS-induced release of pro-inflammatory cytokines, as indicated by decreased IL-6 level in the plasma and jejunum. Moreover, SEC improved intestinal antioxidant functions by regulating oxidative stress indicators and selenoproteins. In vitro, TNF-α-challenged IPEC-1 cells were examined and showed that selenium-enriched peptides, which are the main functional components extracted from Cardamine violifolia(CSP), increased cell viability, decreased lactate dehydrogenase activity and improved cell barrier function. Mechanistically, SEC ameliorated LPS/TNF-α-induced perturbations in mitochondrial dynamics in the jejunum and IPEC-1 cells. Moreover, CSPmediated cell barrier function is primarily dependent on the mitochondrial fusion protein MFN2 but not MFN1. Taken together,these results indicate that SEC mitigates sepsis-induced intestinal injury, which is associated with modulating mitochondrial fusion.

This study reported the influence of selenium(Se)on carbohydrate composition and some related enzymes and nutrient compositions of arsenic(As)stressed rice *** plants of cultivar PR126 were grown on soil amended with As in a range of 25-100μmol/kg with and without 0.5 or 1.0 mg/kg *** soluble sugars(TSS)and reducing sugars(RS)increased in leaves of As stressed plants at the tillering and grain filling stages whereas sucrose and starch contents showed the reverse *** supplementation to As stressed plants further increased TSS and RS,and enhanced sucrose phosphate synthase activity in rice leaves,thus improving sucrose content and the tolerance to As stress of the *** alone or in combination with As resulted in lower As accumulation in rice husk and grains,and the highest reduction was observed in Se applied at 1.0 mg/kg compared to the corresponding As treatments *** may limit the accumulations of Na,Mg,K,Ca,Fe,Zn and Mn in rice grains,which are essential for *** application of different combinations of As and Se protected the plants against As and increased the mineral content in rice *** of Se in As treated soil significantly alleviated As stress by enhancing grain yields compared to the corresponding As *** is concluded that Se induced amelioration of the toxic impact of As in rice either by modulating carbohydrate composition and/or nutrient uptake is one of the mechanisms to alleviate As stress in plants.

It has been reported that selenium(Se)can reduce hepatopancreas lipid accumulation induced by highfat ***,its mechanism is still *** study aims to investigate the specific mechanisms by which Se alleviates high-fat diet-induced lipid *** carp were fed control diet(4.8%lipid,Con),high-fat diet(8.8%lipid,HFD)or HFD supplemented with 0.3 mg/kg nano-Se(HSe0.3)for *** performance,Se deposition,lipid accumulation,hepatic ultrastructure,and gene and protein expression levels associated with autophagy were ***,oleic acid(OA)was used to incubate the grass carp hepatocytes(L8824)for 24 h,and then the L8824 were incubated with sodium selenite in presence or absence of an autophagy inhibitor for 24 h.L8824 was analyzed for triglyceride concentration,immunofluorescence,and gene and protein expression levels associated with *** found that dietary nano-Se improved the growth of fish fed HFD and also decreased hepatosomatic index and intraperitoneal fat ratio of fish fed HFD(P<0.05).HFD significantly increased hepatopancreas lipid accumulation and decreased autophagic activity(P<0.05).Treatment of grass carp fed HFD with nano-Se decreased lipid accumulation and restored hepatic autophagy(P<0.05).In vitro,Se(100μM sodium selenite)obviously activated autophagy in L8824 incubated with OA,and consequently reduced the lipid accumulation induced by OA(P<0.05).Furthermore,using pharmacological inhibition(chloroquine)of the autophagy greatly diminished the beneficial effects of Se on alleviating OA-induced lipid accumulation and increased the co-localization of lipid droplets with autophagosome(P<0.05),which indicated that Se increased autophagic *** conclusion,these results suggest that Se alleviates HFD-induced hepatopancreas lipid accumulation by activating lipophagy.
