Background:Childhood maltreatment(CM)is a potential risk factor for some neuropsychiatric disorders in adulthood(*** and anxiety)and alters trajectories of brain *** evidence suggests that functional connectivity of the limbic system,especially the amygdala,is highly associated with childhood maltreatment,although not all studies have found *** inconsistent results may be due to differential alterations of amygdala resting-state functional connectivity(rsFC)following childhood ***:Our aim was to investigate the relationship between the rsFC of amygdala subregions and CM severity,as well as to develop a stable rsFC-based model for inferring the severity of ***:In this study,we employed the Childhood Trauma Questionnaire(CTQ)to assess CM severity in each *** explored the relationship between the rsFC of amygdala subregions(***-CMA,basolateral-BLA,superficial-SFA amygdala)and CM experience in a discovery dataset of n=110 healthy Chinese participants by linear multiple regression *** dimensional and categorical approach were performed to elucidate the relationship between rsFCs and CM severity and CM subtypes,respectively.A support vector regression model was then conducted to validate the associations between rsFCs and total CTQ ***,we also verified the model into another independent replication dataset(n=38).Results:Our findings suggested that childhood maltreatment was negatively associated with rsFC between the right superficial amyg-dala and perigenual anterior cingulate cortex(pgACC)/postcentral gyrus(PCG)but not the other two amygdala ***,SFA-pgACC coupling was more associated with physical neglect whereas the SFA-PCG was more related to emotional *** addi-tion,supervised machine learning confirmed that using these two rsFCs as predictors could stably estimate continuous maltreatment severity in both discovery and replication

Objective:This study aims to determine the relationship between education level,memory function,and hippocampus functional and structural alterations in subjective cognitive decline(SCD).Methods:Seventy-five participants with SCD were divided into high education(HE)and low education(LE)level groups.A Wechsler Memory Scale-Chinese Revision test and functional and structural MRI were performed within 1 week after participant *** bilateral hippocampus resting-state functional connectivity(rsF C),gray matter volume(GMV)of brain regions identified by rsF C analysis,and moderating and mediating effects were ***:Compared with the LE group,HE individuals showed 1)higher memory quotient(MQ)and Digit Span subscore,2)decreased hippocampal rs FC with the right medial prefrontal cortex(mPFC)and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex(DLPFC),and 3)increased GMV in the right mP FC and *** bilateral hippocampus-right DLPFCrs FC significantly associated with the MQ and the bilateral hippocampus-right m PFCrs FC with the Digit Span subscore in each *** bilateral hippocampus-right DLPFCrsFC moderated the relationship between the education level and *** bilateral hippocampus-right mP FC rsF C mediated the relationship between the education level and Digit Span subscore in all ***:The hippocampal rsF C with the right mP FC and DLPFC contributes to the education level effect on memory function in SCD.

Background: Many studies have found that the hippocampus plays a very important role in major depressive disorder(MDD). The hippocampus can be divided into three subfields: the cornu ammonis(CA), dentate gyrus(DG) and subiculum. Each subfield of the hippocampus has a unique function and are differentially associated with the pathological mechanisms of MDD. However, no research exists to describe the resting state functional connectivity of each hippocampal subfield in MDD. Methods: 55 patients with MDD and 25 healthy controls(HCs) matched for gender, age and years of education were obtained. A seed-based method that imposed a template on the whole brain was used to assess the resting-state functional connectivity(rsFC) of each hippocampal subfield. Results: Patients with MDD demonstrated increased connectivity in the left premotor cortex(PMC) and reduced connectivity in the right insula with the CA seed region. Increased connectivity was reported in the left orbitofrontal cortex(OFC) and left ventrolateral prefrontal cortex(vlPFC) with the DG seed region. The subiculum seed region revealed increased connectivity with the left premotor cortex(PMC), the right middle frontal gyrus(MFG), the left ventrolateral prefrontal cortex(vlPFC) and reduced connectivity with the right insula. ROC curves confirmed that the differences between groups were statistically significant. Conclusion: The results suggest that the CA, DG and subiculum have significant involvement with MDD. Specifically, the abnormal functional connectivity of the CA may be related to bias of coding and integration of information in patients with MDD. The abnormal functional connectivity of the DG may be related to the impairment of working memory in patients with MDD, and the abnormal functional connectivity of the subiculum may be related to cognitive impairment and negative emotions in patients with MDD.

Background: Major depressive disorder(MDD) is a widespread mental disorder and it is associated with abnormalities in emotional/cognitive processing and low reward sensitivity. The habenula has a pivotal role in cognition/emotion and reward circuit that may contribute to depression. However, there has been little research on the abnormal connection between habenula and the whole brain of first-onset major depressive disorder during the resting state. We aimed to explore the differences of functional connectivity between habenula and the whole brain in first-episode MDD patients and healthy controls using functional magnetic resonance imaging. Methods: resting-state fMRI was conducted on 49 first-episode depressive patients and 25 healthy controls. The whole-brain functional connectivity of the habenula was calculated using a seed-based template method and the differences were compared between MDD patients and normal subjects. Receiver operating characteristic(ROC) curve was used to discriminate MDD patients from healthy controls. Correlation analysis was taken to assess the relationship between topological measurements and HAMD scores in MDD group. Results: Anterior cingulate cortex and prefrontal cortex showed a significant positive connection with the habenula in MDD group. Compared to controls, patients with MDD demonstrated significant increases in the functional connectivity between habenula and dorsolateral prefrontal cortex. The ROC curve proved that connectivity of the habenula and dlPFC was highly predictive. There was a positive correlation between HAMD score and the functional connectivity of habenula to right dlPFC. Conclusion: The results of whole-brain functional connectivity of the habenula focused on regions associated with reward circuits, emotional and cognitive regulation. Impact of Cannabis Use on Brain Structure and Function in Suppressed HIV Infection

Background: Brain atrophy and cognitive deficits persist among individuals with suppressed HIV disease. The impact of cannabis use is unknown. Methods: HIV+ and HIV- participants underwent cross-sectional magnetic resonance imaging and neuropsychological testing. Lifetime frequency, duration (years), and recency of cannabis use were self-reported. Relationships of cannabis use to resting-state functional connectivity (RSFC) and to 9 regional brain volumes were assessed with corrections for multiple comparisons. Peripheral blood cytokines and monocyte subsets were measured in the HIV+ group and examined in relation to cannabis exposure. Results: We evaluated 52 HIV+ [50.8 ± 7.1 years old;100% on antiretroviral therapy ≥ 3 months;83% with plasma viral load 10 times/lifetime was linked to more somatic symptoms, better executive function, and lower CD14+CD16++ monocyte count. Conclusion: HIV+ individuals demonstrated opposing associations with cannabis. Recent use may weaken RSFC and prolonged consumption may exacerbate atrophy of the accumbens and other brain regions. Risk preference, the attitude towards risky choice over safer alternatives, has a great impact on multiple fields, such as health, finance, investment. Extensive behavioral researches have showed that inadequate self-control ability can give rise to high risk preference. However, little is known about the neural substrates underlying the effect of self-control on risk preference. To address this issue, we combined voxel-based morphometry(VBM) and resting-state functional connectivity(RSFC) analysis to explore the neural basis of the effect of self-control on risk preference across two independent samples. In sample 1(99 participants;47 males;20.37±1.63 years), the behavioral results indicated that self-control scores were significantly negatively correlated with acceptance rate of risky option. The VBM analysis demonstrated that the higher acceptance rate of risky option was correlated with smaller GMV in right orbitofrontal cortex(rOFC) and right posterior parietal cortex(rPPC). Furthermore, the functional connectivity of rOFC-rACC was positively associated with risk preference in another independent sample(sample 2, 80 participants;33 males;20.33±1.83 years). More importantly, the mediation analysis revealed that self-control mediated the impact of rOFC-rACC on risk preference. The results suggests the functional coupling between the rOFC and rACC might be the neural substrates responsible for the effect of self-control on risk preference. The present study extends our understanding on the relationship between self-control and risk preference, and provides a novel account from the neural perspective.
