Reliability analysis of arresting hook engaging arresting cable for carrier-based aircraft influenced by multifactors

The carrier-based aircraft landing and arrest process is complex and nonlinear,and includes the coupling effect between the aircraft and arresting system.It has many uncertain factors,which lead to difficulty in the Reliability analysis.To make the Reliability analysis more accurate and effective,this paper presents some studies.Taking a certain type of carrier-based aircraft as the research object,a dynamic model of the landing and arrest cable was established,and the accuracy of the model was verified using laboratory test results.Based on the model,this paper shows how the key parameters,including the sinking velocity,pitch angle and horizontal velocity,affect the collision rebound performance of the arresting hook.After that,a limit state equation of the arresting hook system’s Reliability was established.For the implicit limit state equation,a surrogate model of the Reliability of the arresting hook was established using the Support Vector Machine(SVM)method,and then Reliability analysis was carried out using the Monte Carlo method.Finally,it was explained in detail how the key parameters affect the Reliability of the hook engaging the arresting cable,and some meaningful conclusions were obtained.This analysis method and its results can provide a reference for the top-level parameter design of carrier-based aircraft and Reliability research on the arresting systems.

Reliability Assessment for Integrated Power-gas Systems Considering Renewable Energy Uncertainty and Cascading Effects

Integrated power-gas systems(IPGSs)make the power system and natural gas system(NGS)as a whole,and strengthen interdependence between the two systems.Due to bidirectional energy conversion in IPGS,a disturbance may turn into a catastrophic outage.Meanwhile,increasing proportion of renewable energy brings challenges to Reliability of IPGS.Moreover,partial failure or degradation of system performance leads IPGS operate at multiple performance levels.Therefore,this paper proposes a Reliability assessment model of IPGSs which represents multiple performance of components and considers cascading effects,as well as renewable energy uncertainty.First,a framework of IPGS Reliability assessment is proposed:multistate models for main elements in the IPGS are represented.Especially a gas-power-generation calculation operator and a power-to-gas calculation operator are utilized to bi-directionally convert a multi-state model between NGS and power systems.Furthermore,nodal Reliability indices for IPGS are given to display impacts of cascading effects and renewable energy uncertainty on reliabilities of IPGSs.Numerical results on IPGS test system demonstrate the proposed methods.

Integrated Planning of an Active Distribution Network and DG Integration in Clusters Considering a Novel Formulation for Reliability Assessment

The concept of DG clusters is introduced with highly penetrated integration of distributed generation(DG)into active distribution networks(ADNs).DG clusters are referred to as parts of an ADN,including DGs,distribution lines and loads.The formation of DG clusters helps to optimally dispatch DG outputs within ADNs.In this regard,an integrated planning strategy of ADNs and DGs in cluster(IPNDGC)is proposed.In order to guarantee that the planning strategy meets the Reliability requirements,a Reliability assessment is considered in the proposed model.However,Reliability assessment is generally accomplished according to a fixed network topology and known DG allocation,which makes it difficult to integrate Reliability into planning models.To deal with this difficulty,a novel formulation method for Reliability assessment is proposed considering the network topology uncertainties and isolated operating probabilities of DG clusters.The Reliability index(RI)represented by expected customer interruption cost(ECOST)is employed in the proposed planning model.The planning model is formulated as a mixed integer second order conic programming planning model.An actual distribution system is employed to illustrate the accuracy and efficiency of the proposed planning model.

Service-based Reliability Analysis of Integrated Electricity-heat Systems Considering Thermal Dynamics

The essential task of integrated electricity-heat systems(IEHSs)is to provide customers with reliable electric and heating services.From the perspective of customers,it is reasonable to analyze the reliabilities of IEHSs based on the ability to provide energy services with a reasonable assurance of continuity and quality,which are termed as service-based reliabilities.Due to the thermal inertia existing in IEHSs,the heating service performances can present slow dynamic characteristics,which has a great impact on the service satisfaction of customers.The neglect of such thermal dynamics will bring about inaccurate service-based Reliability measurement,which can lead to the inefficient dispatch decisions of system operators.Therefore,it is necessary to provide a tool which can analyze the servicebased reliabilities of IEHSs considering the impacts of thermal dynamics.This paper firstly models the energy service performance of IEHSs in contingency states.Specifically,the nodal energy supplies are obtained from the optimal power and heat flow model under both variable hydraulic and thermal conditions,in which the transmission-side thermal dynamics are formulated.On this basis,the energy service performances for customers are further determined with the formulation of demandside thermal dynamics.Moreover,a service-based Reliability analysis framework for the IEHSs is proposed utilizing the timesequential Monte Carlo simulation(TSMCS)technique with the embedded decomposition algorithm.Furthermore,the indices for quantifying service-based reliabilities are defined based on the traditional Reliability indices,where dynamic service performances and service satisfactions of customers are both considered.Numerical simulations are carried out with a test system to validate the effectiveness of the proposed framework.

Multifactor-influenced Reliability-constrained Reserve Expansion of Integrated Electricity-gas Systems Considering Failure Propagation

With the increasing interactions between natural gas systems(NGS)and power systems,component failures in one system may propagate to the other one,threatening reliable operation of the whole system.Due to neglect of such cross-sectorial failure propagation in integrated electricity-gas systems(IEGSs),traditional economy-oriented reserve expansion models may lead to unreasonable planning results.In order to address this,an innovative reserve expansion model is proposed to determine the allocation of energy production components through the harmonization between costs and Reliability.First,novel multifactor-influenced Reliability indices are defined con-sidering synthetic effects of multiple uncertainties,including failure propagation,load uncertainties and generation failures.In Reliability index formulation,contribution of failure propagation on system Reliability is analytically expressed.To avoid high computational complexity,the fuzzy set theory is combined with conventional methods,e.g.,Monte-Carlo simulation technique to reduce numerous contingency states.Sampled contingency states are aggregated into several clusters represented by a fuzzy number.To effectively solve the planning model,a decomposition approach is introduced and applied to decompose the original problem into a master problem and two correlated Reliability sub-problems.Numerical studies show the proposed model can plan reasonable reserves to guarantee Reliability levels of IEGSs considering failure propagation.

Probabilistic description of extreme oscillations and Reliability analysis in rolling motion under stochastic excitation

Large-amplitude rolling motions, also regarded as extreme oscillations, are a great threat to marine navigation, which may lead to capsizing in ship motion. Therefore, it is important to quantify extreme oscillations, assess Reliability of ship systems, and establish a suitable indicator to characterize extreme oscillations in ship systems. In this work, extreme events are investigated in a ship model considering a complex ocean environment, described by a single-degree-of-freedom nonlinear system with stochastic harmonic excitation and colored Gaussian noise. The stationary probability density function(PDF) of the system is derived through a probabilistic decomposition-synthesis method. Based on this, we infer the classical damage rate of the system. Furthermore, a new indicator, independent of the PDF, is proposed to quantify the damage related only to the fourth-order moment of the system and the threshold for extreme events. It is more universal and easier to determine as compared with the classical damage rate. A large damping ratio, a large noise intensity, or a short correlation time can reduce the damage rate and the value of the indicator.These findings provide new insights and theoretical guidance to avoid extreme oscillations and assess the Reliability of practical ship movements.

The spacecraft for deep space exploration missions will face extreme environments,including cryogenic temperature,intense radiation,wide-range temperature variations and even the combination of conditions mentioned above.Harsh environments will lead to solder joints degradation or even failure,resulting in damage to onboard electronics.The research activities on high Reliability solder joints using in extreme environments can not only reduce the use of onboard protection devices,but effectively improve the overall Reliability of spacecraft,which is of great significance to the aviation industry.In this paper,we review the Reliability research on SnPb solder alloys,Sn-based lead-free solder alloys and In-based solder alloys in extreme environments,and try to provide some suggestions for the follow-up studies,which focus on solder joint Reliability under extreme environments.

Reliability Assessment of Interconnected Power Systems with HVDC Links Considering Frequency Regulation Process

With various components and complex topologies,the applications of high-voltage direct current(HVDC)links bring new challenges to the interconnected power systems in the aspect of frequency security,which further influence their Reliability performances.Consequently,this paper presents an approach to evaluate the impacts of the HVDC link outage on the Reliability of interconnected power system considering the frequency regulation process during system contingencies.Firstly,a multi-state model of an HVDC link with different available loading rates(ALRs)is established based on its Reliability network.Then,dynamic frequency response models of the interconnected power system are presented and integrated with a novel frequency regulation scheme enabled by the HVDC link.The proposed scheme exploits the temporary overload capability of normal converters to compensate for the imbalanced power during system contingencies.Moreover,it offers frequency support that enables the frequency regulation reserves of the sending-end and receiving-end power systems to be mutually available.Several indices are established to measure the system Reliability based on the given models in terms of abnormal frequency duration,frequency deviation,and energy losses of the frequency regulation process during system contingencies.Finally,a modified two-area Reliability test system(RTS)with an HVDC link is adopted to verify the proposed approach.

Accurate Reliability Analysis Methods for Approximate Computing Circuits

In recent years,Approximate Computing Circuits(ACCs)have been widely used in applications with intrinsic tolerance to errors.With the increased availability of approximate computing circuit approaches,Reliability analysis methods for assessing their fault vulnerability have become highly necessary.In this study,two accurate Reliability evaluation methods for approximate computing circuits are proposed.The Reliability of approximate computing circuits is calculated on the basis of the iterative Probabilistic Transfer Matrix(PTM)model.During the calculation,the correlation coefficients are derived and combined to deal with the correlation problem caused by fanout reconvergence.The accuracy and scalability of the two methods are verified using three sets of approximate computing circuit instances and more circuits in Evo Approx8 b,which is an approximate computing circuit open source library.Experimental results show that relative to the Monte Carlo simulation,the two methods achieve average error rates of 0.46%and 1.29%and time overheads of 0.002%and 0.1%.Different from the existing approaches to Reliability estimation for approximate computing circuits based on the original PTM model,the proposed methods reduce the space overheads by nearly 50%and achieve time overheads of 1.78%and 2.19%.
