Calibration curve and support vector regression methods applied for quantification of cement raw meal using laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy

Laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy(LIBS) is a qualitative and quantitative analytical technique with great potential in the cement industrial analysis. Calibration curve(CC) and support vector regression(SVR) methods coupled with LIBS technology were applied for the quantification of three types of cement raw meal samples to compare their analytical concentration range and the ability to reduce matrix effects, respectively. To reduce the effects of fluctuations of the pulse-to-pulse, the unstable ablation and improve the reproducibility, all of the analysis line intensities were normalized on a per-detector basis. The prediction results of the elements of interest in the three types of samples, Ca, Si, Fe, Al, Mg, Na, K and Ti, were compared with the results of the wet chemical analysis. The average relative error(ARE),relative standard deviation(RSD) and root mean squared error of prediction(RMSEP) were employed to investigate and evaluate the prediction accuracy and stability of the two prediction methods. The maximum average ARE of the CC and SVR methods is 34.62% instead of 6.13%,RSD is 40.89% instead of 7.60% and RMSEP is 1.34% instead of 0.43%. The results show that SVR method can accurately analyze samples within a wider concentration range and reduce the matrix effects, and LIBS coupled with it for a rapid, stable and accurate quantification of different types of cement raw meal samples is promising.

We previously demonstrated that 2-hydroxypropyltrimethyl ammonium chloride chitosan(HACC)promoted the production of nitric oxide(NO)and proinflammatory cytokines by activating the mitogen-activated protein kinases(MAPK)and Janus kinase(JAK)/STAT pathways in raw 264.7 cells,indicating good immunomodulatory activity of *** this study,to further investigate the immunomodulatory mechanisms of HACC,we determined the roles of phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase(PI3K)/Akt,activating protein(AP-1)and nuclear factor kappa B(NF-κB)in HACC-induced activation of raw 264.7 cells by the western *** results suggest that HACC promoted the phosphorylation of p85 and ***,c-Jun and p65 were also increased after the treatment of raw 264.7 cells with HACC,indicating the translocation of NF-κB and AP-1 from cytoplasm to *** addition,as scanning electron microscopy(SEM)analysis shows,the cell morphology changed after HACC *** findings indicate that HACC activated MAPK,JAK/STAT,and PI3K/Akt signaling pathways dependent on AP-1 and NF-κB activation in raw 264.7 cells,ultimately leading to the increase of NO and cytokines.

A novel chemical composition estimation model for cement raw material blending process

raw material blending process is an essential part of the cement production process. The main purpose of the process is to guarantee a certain oxide composition for the raw meal at the outlet of the mill by regulating the four raw materials. But the chemical compositions of raw materials vary from time to time, resulting in difficulties to control the oxide compositions to a predefined value. Therefore, a novel algorithm to estimate the chemical compositions of the raw materials is developed. The paper mainly consists of two parts. In model construction part, a novel constrained least square model is proposed to overcome the deviation introduced by long-term drift of the material components, and the model parameters are estimated with an online strategy. And in validation part, the approach is implemented to two examples including datasets from simulation model and the actual industrial process. The final results show the effectiveness of the proposed method.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the effect of Young Yum pill (YYP) on inflammatory mediators in cultured raw 264.7 cells and elucidate the nuclear factor- kappa B (NF-κB)-related mechanism behind the action. METHODS: YYP was extracted with 95% ethanol Lipopolysaccharide (LPS)-stimulated raw 264.7 macrophages were used to evaluate the effect of YYP on inflammatory mediators. Production of nitric oxide (NO) and prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) were measured by Griess test and enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay, respectively. The levels of genes and proteins involved in the generation of inflammatory mediators were examined using real-time polymerase chain reaction and Western blotting, respectively. RESULTS: YYP dose-dependently suppressed LPS-induced production of NO, PGE2 and tumor necrosis factor-α(TNF-α), and elevation of mRNA and protein levels of inducible NO synthase and cyclooxygenase- 2 in raw 264.7 macrophages. These observations were associated with decreased NF-κB p65 phosphorylation and nuclear localization, enhanced Akt (protein kinase B) phosphorylation, as well as reduced inhibitor of κB (IκB)α degradation and IκB kinase α/β phosphorylation. CONCLUSION: The present study demonstrated an inhibitory effect of YYP on the NF-κB-regulated inflammatory mediators NO, PGE2 and TNF-α in LPS-stimulated raw 264.7 macrophages, providing a pharmacological basis for the use of YYP in treating inflammatory disorders.

Objective: To examine whether Caulerpa okamurae ethanolic extract(COE) could inhibit obesitymediated inflammation, improve glucose metabolism and increase insulin sensitivity, using in vitro cell models of raw 264.7 macrophages and 3 T3-L1 ***: We cocultured 3 T3-L1 adipocytes in direct contact with lipopolysaccharide-stimulated raw264.7 macrophages and induced insulin resistance in 3 T3-L1 adipocytes with tumor necrosis factor-a(TNF-a) in the presence or absence of 250 mg/m L of COE. We investigated various markers of inflammation, glucose regulation and insulin sensitivity in these models using Griess reagent to measure nitric oxide(NO) production, 2-[N-(7-nitrobenz-2-oxa-1,3-diazol-4-yl) amino]-2-deoxyglucose to measure glucose uptake, Western blot analysis to quantify protein expression and reverse transcriptasepolymerase chain reaction to evaluate m RNA ***: We found that COE(250 mg/m L) significantly inhibited the lipopolysaccharide-induced inflammatory response in raw 264.7 macrophages by downregulating NO production, nitric oxide synthase 2 expression and nuclear translocation of nuclear factor-j B. COE also showed similar anti-inflammatory activity in coculture, along with decreased TNF-a, interleukin-6 and monocyte chemoattractant protein m RNA expression. In addition, COE also improved glucose uptake in coculture by upregulating glucose transporter-4(GLUT-4) and adiponectin and reducing serine phosphorylation of insulin receptor substrate-1(IRS1). In the TNF-a-induced insulin resistance model of 3 T3-L1 adipocytes, COE significantly improved both basal and insulin-stimulated glucose uptake, accompanied by phosphorylation of IRS1 at tyrosine 632, phospho-50 adenosine monophosphate-activated protein kinase a and glycogen synthase kinase-3 b(Ser9) as well as upregulation of ***: Together, these findings suggest that COE has potential to treat or prevent obesity-induced metabolic disorders.

Neutron activation analysis of sources of raw material of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's Terracotta Warriors and Horses

There have been selected 83 samples of terracotta warriors and horses of Emperor Qin Shi Huang's Mausoleum, 20 samples of clays taken from around Qin's Mausoleum and 2 samples of Yaozhou porcelain bodies. All these samples have been measured by instrument neutron activation analysis (INAA) and as many as 32 kinds of element contents of each sample are measured. The following conclusion has been reached when fuzzy cluster analysis is conducted to element contents of all these samples: (i) The samples are roughly classified into five categories: namely, samples from pits No. 1 and No. 2; samples from pit No. 3; loam layers; the mixture of loam and loess; and Yaozhou porcelain bodies. (ii) The terracottawarriors and horses in pits No. 1, No. 2 and No. 3 are relatively independent from one another. The clays from which they were made are not entirely *** have found that samples in pit No. 3 are very closely related and their claysources are comparatively concentrated. Samples in pits No. 1 and No. 2 are less related and their clay sources are comparatively scattered. (iii) The clays from which the terracotta warriors and horses were made are closely related to theloam layer near Qin's Mausoleum, particularly to the loam layer of Zaoyuan village and Gaoxing village, but they are not so related to loess layers there, nor to the loam layers of Anhoubao, even less related to Yaozhou porcelain bodies. Arational deduction thus drawn is that the raw material of clays from which the terracotta warriors and horses were made might probably be taken from loam layers around Zaoyuan and Gaoxing, or loam layers near Qin's Mausoleum whose properties are identical with those of loam layers of Zaoyuan and Gaoxing, rather than loess layers around the above places. Since the raw material of the terracotta warriors and horses was taken from loam near Qin's Mausoleum, it could be deductedthat the kiln sites might be located in around Qin's Mausoleum.

Suppressive effects of acetone extract from the stem bark of three Acacia species on nitric oxide production in lipopolysaccharide-stimulated raw 264.7 macrophage cells

Objective: To compare the inhibitory effects of acetone extracts from the stem bark of three Acacia species(Acacia dealbata, Acacia ferruginea and Acacia leucophloea) on nitric oxide ***: The lipopolysaccharide(LPS)-stimulated raw 264.7 macrophage cells were used to investigate the regulatory effect of acetone extracts of three Acacia stem barks on nitric oxide production and the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase,cyclooxygenase-2 and tumor necrosis factor-a. Further, the phenolic profile of acetone extracts from the Acacia barks was determined by liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry ***: All the three extracts significantly decreased LPS-induced NO production as well as the expression of inducible nitric oxide synthase, cyclooxygenase-2 and tumor necrosis factor-a in a concentration dependent manner(25, 50 and 75 mg/m L). In the liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry/mass spectrometry analysis, acetone extract of Acacia ferruginea bark revealed the presence of 12 different phenolic components including quercetin, catechin, ellagic acid and rosmanol. However, Acacia dealbata and Acacia leucophloea barks each contained 6 different phenolic ***: The acetone extracts of three Acacia species effectively inhibited the NO production in LPS-stimulated raw 264.7 cells and the presence of different phenolic components in the bark extracts might be responsible for reducing the NO level in cells.
