The routine and potential future applications of equilibrium radionuclide angiocardiography/multigated acquisition (MUGA) in clinical decision making are explored in this review. The non-invasive nature of the test, less operator dependence, lower radiation dose and ease of performing, even in ill patients, are important considerations in clinical cardiology practice. Two important routine uses of this modality in day-to-day clinical practice include the following: serial assessment of left ventricular ejection fraction (LVEF) in patients receiving cardiotoxic chemotherapy, and determination of accurate LVEF in patients with intractable heart failure. Other potential utilities of MUGA that could be translated into clinical practice include determination of regional LVEF, obtaining information about both right and left ventricle in suitable patients as a part of first pass angiocardiography, identification of diastolic dysfunction in patients with heart failure with preserved LVEF, and demonstration of dyssynchrony prior to cardiac resynchronisation, specifically by MUGA single photon emission *** last two indications are particularly important and evolving at this point.

NaA zeolite (Si/Al = 1.00) has been commercially applied for capturing radioactive Sr-90(2+) because of its high surface charge density, effectively stabilizing the multivalent cation. However, owing to its narrow micropore opening (4.0 & Aring;), large micron-sized crystallites, and bulkiness of hydrated Sr2+, the Sr2+ exchange over NaA has been limited by very slow kinetics. In this study, we synthesized nanocrystalline low-silica X by minimizing a water content in a synthesis gel and utilizing a methyl cellulose hydrogel as a crystal growth inhibitor. The resulting zeolite exhibited high crystallinity and Al-rich framework (Si/Al of approximately 1.00) with the sole presence of tetrahedral Al sites, which are capable of high Sr2+ uptake and ion selectivity. Meanwhile, the zeolite with a FAU topology has a much larger micropore opening size (7.4 & Aring;) and a much smaller crystallite size (similar to 340 nm) than NaA, which enable significantly enhanced ionexchange kinetics. Compared to conventional NaA, the nanocrystalline low-silica X exhibited remarkably increased Sr2+-exchange kinetics (> 18-fold larger rate constant) in batch experiments. Although both the nanocrystalline low-silica X and NaA exhibited comparable Sr2+ capacities under equilibrated conditions, the former demonstrated a 5.5-fold larger breakthrough volume than NaA under dynamic conditions, attributed to its significantly faster Sr2+-exchange kinetics.

Cerenkov luminescence imaging(CLI) is a relatively new optical molecular imaging technique. The nature of Stokes shift in quantum dots(QD) can be used to improve the quality of CLI. However, the interaction mechanism of QD with Cerenkov light remains unclear. In this work, the interaction mechanism between QD and radionuclides emitting β rays, γ rays, and Cerenkov light was investigated. The 96-well plates were used to test the different levels of radioactivity of radionuclides with different QD concentrations. Transparent vials were used to determine the relationship between QD fluorescence intensity and the distance from QD to the radionuclide. In addition, black paper was used to block the transmission of Cerenkov light through the QD vials. A linear relationship was found between the number of photons and the radioactivity of radionuclides when the QD concentration was kept constant. Similarly, the number of photons was linearly related to the QD concentration when the radioactivity of radionuclides was kept constant. Furthermore, with the increases in the distance between radionuclides and quantum dots, the number of photons was exponentially decreased. Meanwhile, the number of photons emitted from QD excited by Cerenkov light accounted for 20% the total number of photons excited by 131 I radionuclide. The result proved that QD was not only excited by Cerenkov light but also by other rays.

The Kongsfjorden is highly sensitive region to climate variability,however,the study of gamma-ray radionuclides in related areas is relatively *** this study,the grain size,total organic carbon(TOC),13 Corg isotopes,and specific activities of seven gamma nuclides were analysed in surface sediments of the Kongsfjorden in the Arctic during the summer of *** specific activities of 210 Pb_(ex),137 Cs,238 U,226 Ra,228 Ra,228 Th,and 40 K were 12–256 Bq/kg,0–3.8 Bq/kg,25–42 Bq/kg,24–38 Bq/kg,22–40 Bq/kg,22–40 Bq/kg,and 354–738 Bq/kg,respectively,with average values of(121±94)Bq/kg,(2.0±1.2)Bq/kg,(34±6)Bq/kg,(32±4)Bq/kg,(32±6)Bq/kg,(33±6)Bq/kg,and(611±119)Bq/*** study observed a significant positive correlation(r=0.845,pradionuclides(238 U,228 Ra,228 Th,226 Ra,and 40 K).The specific activity of 137 Cs indicated the transport of terrestrial materials from the exposed area of the *** sediments in the Kongsfjorden were derived from various material contributions of glacial meltwater debris,glacial rivers,bare soil,atmospheric deposition,and marine *** study explains the source of the Kongsfjorden sediment and the distribution characteristics of radionuclides,and illustrateas the main factors affecting the distribution of radionuclides,which provides a reference for the behavior of polar radionuclides in future research.

A wide spectrum of scenarios may lead to radiation incidents and the liberation of radioactive material. In the case of a terrorist attack by a "dirty bomb", there is a risk of mechanical and thermal trauma, external irradiation, superficial contamination and incorporation of radioactive material. The first treatment priority must be given to the care of trauma patients with life-threatening injuries, as the health effects of radiation occur with latency. radionuclide incorporation will lead to a longer-lasting irradiation from inside the body, associated with a higher risk of stochastic radiation effects(e.g., occurrence of tumors) in the long run. It must be expected that victims with potentially incorporated radionuclides will far outnumber trauma patients. The elimination of radionuclides can be enhanced by the administration of decorporation agents such as(Ca) Diethylenetriaminepentaacetic acid(DTPA) or Prussian blue,reducing the radiological burden of the body. There is still no consensus whether decorporation treatment should be started immediately based only on a suspicion of radionuclide incorporation("urgent approach") or if the results of internal dosimetry confirming the necessity of a treatment should be awaited, accepting the delay caused by the measurements and computations("precautionary approach"). As the therapeutic effectiveness may be substantially decreased if treatment initiation is delayed only by several days, depending on the radionuclide, the physicochemical properties of the compounds involved and the route of absorption, we favor an "urgent approach" from a medical point of view. In doubt, it seems justified to treat victims by precaution, as the adverse effects of the medication seem minimal. However, in the case of a high number of victims, an "urgent treatment approach" may require a large number of daily doses of antidotes, and therefore, adequate investments in preparedness and antidote stockpiling are necessary.

For over one hundred years, viruses have been recognized as capable of killing tumor cells. At present, people are still researching and constructing more suitable oncolytic viruses for treating different malignant tumors. Although extensive studies have demonstrated that herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is the most potential oncolytic virus, therapies based on herpes simplex virus type 1 vectors still arouse bio-safety and risk management issues. Researchers have therefore introduced the new idea of treating cancer with HSV-1 mutants labeled with radionuclides, combining radionuclide and oncolytic virus therapies. This overview briefly summarizes the status and mechanisms by which oncolytic viruses kill tumor cells, discusses the application of HSV-1 and HSV-1 derived vectors for tumor therapy, and demonstrates the feasibility and prospect of HSV-1 mutants labeled with radionuclides for treating tumors.

As update and complement of Chinese Total Diet Study in 1990, a renewing study was conducted dur-ing 1992 ~ 1993 according to regulated procedure. Contents of 32 elements, including l9 newly deter-mined, in 12 categories of food from 12 provinces were analyzed by NAA or AAS technique and the dailyintakes of Chinese adult man were estimated and hygienically evaluated. Meanwhile, a typical survey ondietary composition and intake for difference arnong 4 age groups and between Spring and Autumn was sur-veyed too. The results provide important basis for decision for further imProvement of Chinese diet fromhygienic view point and compilation of physiological characteristics of Chinese Reference Man. At the endof this article, the estimated nationwide average intakes for adlllt man are compared with those for currentICRP Reference Man.

Objective To investigate the specific activities of gamma radionuclides in the soils around high energy accelerators,and to analyze the influence of rays emitted by nuclides with characteristic peaks at similar energy points on nuclide measurement results,in order to provide reference for the accurate identification of *** GR5021 high-purity germanium gamma spectroscopy system was used to measure the specific activities of gamma-emitting radionuclides 226Ra,232Th,238U,40K and artificial radionuclides 54Mn,52Mn,7Be,22Na,59Fe,95Zr in six soil samples around three kinds of high energy accelerators,and the theoretical counts of the characteristic peak of 835.7keV were compared with the measured counts of the characteristic peak of *** The specific activity ranges of gamma-emitting radionuclides 226Ra,232Th,238U and 40K in the soils around three kinds of high energy accelerators were 55.5–171,34.9–99.9,21.9–79.3 and 247–680 Bq/kg,*** specific activities of artificial radionuclides 52Mn,7Be,22Na,59Fe and 95Zr were basically lower than the minimum detection limit.A characteristic peak was found at the energy point of 835.7keV in six soil samples,and the corresponding total absorption peak counts were from 228Ac of 232Thdecay *** The specific activities of gamma-emitting radionuclides were at the normal natural background *** specific activities of artificial radionuclides were basically lower than the minimum detection *** 232Th,when its specific activity is above 40 Bq/kg,characteristic peak of its decay daughter 228Ac could be misjudged as characteristic peak of 54Mn.
