Predictive factors for successful sperm retrieval by microdissection testicular sperm extraction in men with nonobstructive azoospermia and a history of cryptorchidism

This study aims to explore the factors influencing the success rate of the microdissection testicular sperm extraction(Micro-TESE)in patients with nonobstructive azoospermia(NOA)and cryptorchidism.Clinical data of 162 patients with cryptorchidism who underwent Micro-TESE due to infertility from December 2015 to May 2020 in the First Affiliated Hospital of Nanjing Medical University were analyzed retrospectively.In the univariate analysis,significant differences in the age of patient at the time of orchidopexy(median[interquartile range,IQR]:7.0[4.0–11.0]years vs 11.5[9.0–14.5]years,P<0.001),interval between orchidopexy and Micro-TESE(mean±standard deviation:17.5±5.0 years vs 14.4±4.4 years,P<0.001),severity of cryptorchidism(unilateral[62.8%]vs bilateral[31.6%],P<0.001;location of cryptorchidism,intra-abdominal[27.3%]vs inguinal[44.8%]vs suprascrotal[66.7%],P<0.001),volume of the dominant testis(median[IQR]:17.00[15.00–19.00]ml vs 14.50[11.75–16.25]ml,P<0.001),and levels of follicle-stimulating hormone(FSH;P=0.004)and testosterone(P=0.006)were observed between the successful and failed sperm extraction groups.After conducting the multivariate analysis,four of these factors,including unilateral/bilateral cryptorchidism(P<0.001),location of cryptorchidism(P=0.032),age of orchidopexy(P<0.001),and dominant testicular volume,were adopted in the clinical prediction model to evaluate preoperatively the success rate of Micro-TESE for patients with NOA and cryptorchidism.The likelihood of successful sperm retrieval by Micro-TESE in men with NOA and cryptorchidism increased in patients with mild forms of cryptorchidism.

Adaptive and Predictive Control Strategies for Wind Turbine Systems: A Survey

The wind turbine(WT) is a renewable energy conversion device for transformation of kinetic energy from the wind to mechanical energy for subsequent use in different forms.This paper focuses on wind turbine control design strategies.The content is divided into the following parts: 1) An overview of the recent advances that have been made in the application of adaptive and model Predictive control strategies for wind turbines. 2) Summarizes some important aspects of modeling of wind turbines for control studies. 3) Provides an outlook on the application of adaptive model Predictive control for uncertain systems to stimulate new research interests for wind turbine systems. We provide an overall picture of the research results with evaluation of the merits/demerits.

A Long-Range Generalized Predictive Control Algorithm for a DFIG Based Wind Energy System

This paper presents a new Long-range generalized Predictive controller in the synchronous reference frame for a wind energy system doubly-fed induction generator based. This controller uses the state space equations that consider the rotor current and voltage as state and control variables, to execute the Predictive control action. Therefore, the model of the plant must be transformed into two discrete transference functions, by means of an auto-regressive moving average model, in order to attain a discrete and decoupled controller, which makes it possible to treat it as two independent single-input single-output systems instead of a magnetic coupled multiple-input multiple-output system. For achieving that, a direct power control strategy is used, based on the past and future rotor currents and voltages estimation. The algorithm evaluates the rotor current predictors for a defined prediction horizon and computes the new rotor voltages that must be injected to controlling the stator active and reactive powers. To evaluate the controller performance, some simulations were made using Matlab/Simulink. Experimental tests were carried out with a small-scale prototype assuming normal operating conditions with constant and variable wind speed profiles. Finally, some conclusions respect to the dynamic performance of this new controller are summarized.

Economical Optimization of Grid Power Factor Using Predictive Data

We present an electrical grid optimization method for economical benefit. After simplifying an IEEE feeder diagram, we build a compact smart grid system including a photovoltaic-inverter system, a shunt capacitor, an on-load tapchanger(OLTC) and transmission lines. The system power factor(PF) regulation and reactive power dispatching are indispensable to improve power quality. Our control method uses Predictive weather and load data to decide engaging or tripping the shunt capacitor, or reactive power injection by the photovoltaic-inverter system, ultimately to keep the system PF in a good range. From the perspective of economics, the economical model is considered as a decision maker in our Predictive data control method.Capacitor-only control strategy is a common photovoltaic(PV)regulation method, which is treated as a baseline case. Simulations with GridLAB-D on profiled loads and residential loads have been carried out. The comparison results with baseline control strategy and our Predictive data control method show the appreciable economical benefit of our method.

Eosinopenia is a Predictive factor for the severity of acute ischemic stroke

Previous data have revealed an association between eosinopenia and mortality of acute ischemic stroke.However,the relationship of eosinopenia with infarct volume,infection rate,and poor outcome of acute ischemic stroke is still unknown.The retrospective study included 421 patients(273 males,65%;mean age,68.0± 13.0 years)with first acute ischemic stroke who were hospitalized in the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University,China,from January 2017 to February 2018.Laboratory data,neuroimaging results,and modified Rankin Scale scores were collected.Patients were divided into four groups according to their eosinophil percentage level(3)after adjusting for potential confounding factors(P-trend<0.001).These findings suggest that eosinopenia has the potential to predict the severity of acute ischemic stroke.This study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Second Affiliated Hospital of Soochow University,China(approval number:K10)on November 10,2015.

Background:As a large,prospective,multicenter study-based prognostic score for hepatitis B virus-related acute-on-chronic liver failure(HBV-ACLF),the Chinese group on the study of severe hepatitis B-acute-on-chronic liver failure score(COSSH-ACLFs),has been approved by some foreign scholars;however,its Predictive value needs to be verified.This study investigated the Predictive value of COSSH-ACLFs for short-term prognosis in Chinese patients with HBV-ACLF.Methods:This retrospective cohort study included 751 patients with HBV-ACLF admitted to the Fifth Medical Center of Chinese PLA General Hospital between January 2011 and December 2014.Spearman method was used to assess the correlation of COSSHACLFs with classical scores.Different COX multivariate regression models were used to confirm the relationship between COSSHACLFs and short-term prognosis in patients with HBV-ACLF,and stratified analysis was used to further verify the stability of this relationship.We compared the Predictive powers of COSSH-ACLFs and other classical scores using area under the receiver operating characteristic curve(AUROC)and Z-test.Results:A total of 975 patients with HBV-ACLF were screened,and 751 were analyzed(623 male and 128 female).COSSH-ACLFs was the highest in patients with end-stage ACLF,followed by those with middle-and early-stage ACLF(H=211.8,PPredictive accuracy than those of classic models.Conclusions:COSSH-ACLFs,with a superior Predictive accuracy compared with other classical scores,can strongly predict sh

Establishment of two new Predictive models for prostate cancer to determine whether to require prostate biopsy when the PSA level is in the diagnostic gray zone (4–10 ng ml^?1)

Our goal was to establish two new Predictive models of prostate cancer to determine whether to require a prostate biopsy when the prostate-specific antigen level is in the diagnostic gray zone.A retrospective analysis of 197 patients undergoing prostate biopsy with prostate-specific antigens between 4 and 10 ng ml^?1 was conducted.Of these,47 patients were confirmed to have cancer,while the remaining 150 patients were diagnosed with benign prostate disease after examining biopsy pathology.Two multivariate logistic regression models were established including age,prostate volumes,free/total prostate-specific antigen ratio,and prostate-specific antigen density using SPSS 19.0 to obtain the predicted probability and Logit P,and then,two receiver operating characteristic(ROC)curves were drawn to obtain the best cutoff value for prostate biopsy:one for the group of all the prostate cancers and one for the group of clinically significant prostate cancers.The best cutoff value for prostate biopsy was 0.25 from the multivariate logistic regression ROC curve model of all the prostate cancers,which gave a sensitivity of 75.4%and a specificity of 75.8%.The best cutoff value for prostate biopsy was 0.20 from the multivariate logistic regression model of clinically significant prostate cancers,which gave a sensitivity of 76.7%and a specificity of 80.1%.We identified the best cutoff values for prostate biopsy(0.25 for all prostate cancers and 0.20 for clinically significant prostate cancers)to determine whether to require prostate biopsy when the PSA level is in the diagnostic gray zone.

Research on nonlinear model Predictive control for turboshaft engines based on double engines torques matching

In order to reach a compromise between fast response control and torques matching control in double turboshaft engines,research on nonlinear model Predictive control for turboshaft engines based on double engines torques matching is conducted.Meanwhile,a Nonlinear Model Predictive Control(NMPC)method is proposed,which combines the control index of the power turbine speed with torques matching of double engines creatively.In addition to the control index,the difference of output torques between each engine is also incorporated in the objective function as a penalty term to ensure constant speed control and short torques matching time.Simulation results demonstrate that relative to unilateral torques matching,the settling time of the bidirectional matching method can be reduced by nearly 30.8%.Nevertheless,compared with the bidirectional torques matching method under the cascade PID controller,the NMPC method can decrease the overshoot of the power turbine speed by 65%and reduce the matching time by 15.5%synchronously.Besides fast response control of turboshaft engines,fast torques matching control of double engines is accomplished as well.

A Survey of Model Predictive Control Methods for Traffic Signal Control

Enhancing traffic efficiency and alleviating(even circumventing) traffic congestion with advanced traffic signal control(TSC) strategies are always the main issues to be addressed in urban transportation systems. Since model Predictive control(MPC) has a lot of advantages in modeling complex dynamic systems, it has been widely studied in traffic signal control over the past 20 years. There is a need for an in-depth understanding of MPC-based TSC methods for traffic networks. Therefore, this paper presents the motivation of using MPC for TSC and how MPC-based TSC approaches are implemented to manage and control the dynamics of traffic flows both in urban road networks and freeway networks. Meanwhile, typical performance evaluation metrics, solution methods, examples of simulations,and applications related to MPC-based TSC approaches are reported. More importantly, this paper summarizes the recent developments and the research trends in coordination and control of traffic networks with MPC-based TSC approaches. Remaining challenges and open issues are discussed towards the end of this paper to discover potential future research directions.

Distributed Model Predictive Control for Networked Plant-wide Systems With Neighborhood Cooperation

For large-scale networked plant-wide systems composed by physically(or geographically) divided subsystems, only limited information is available for local controllers on account of region and communication restrictions. Concerning the optimal control problem of such subsystems, a neighbor-based distributed model Predictive control(NDMPC) strategy is presented to improve the global system performance. In this scheme, the performance index of local subsystems and that of its neighbors are minimized together in the determination of the optimal control input, which makes the local control decision also beneficial to its neighboring subsystems and further contributes to improving the convergence and control performance of overall system.The stability of the closed-loop system is proved. Moreover, the parameter designing method for distributed synthesis is provided.Finally, the simulation results illustrate the main characteristics and effectiveness of the proposed control scheme.
